Title: RIP John Sullivan Post by: Batch on Sunday, April 24, 2011, 07:53:58 RIP John Sullivan, creator/writer of Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends and Only Fools and Horses
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13176198 Quote John Sullivan, who wrote one of the best-loved British sitcoms, Only Fools and Horses, has died at the age of 64. He had been in intensive care for six weeks at a hospital in Surrey, battling viral pneumonia. He also wrote Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends, and the third and final episode of his latest work Rock & Chips will be shown on BBC One on Thursday. Sir David Jason, who played Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses, said he was "devastated" at the loss of his friend. He said: "We have lost our country's greatest comedy writer but he leaves us a great legacy, the gift of laughter. My thoughts at this time are with his lovely family." Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Del's brother Rodney, said he was "shocked" and "deeply saddened" and described his friend as "without doubt" Britain's finest TV writer. He said: "He was a shy and self-effacing man, but had a huge passion for his work and was looking forward to writing more Rock & Chips, I hope the last episode makes him proud." BBC director general Mark Thompson said: "John had a unique gift for turning everyday life and characters we all know into unforgettable comedy." The son of a plumber, he is survived by his wife Sharon and two sons, a daughter and two grandchildren. R.I.P Mr Sullivan Title: Re: RIP John Sullivan Post by: Dazzza on Sunday, April 24, 2011, 10:03:32 No age to go. Cracking writer.
Stick a pony in me pocket, I'll fetch the suitcase from the van. Cos if you want the best 'uns, But you don't ask questions, Then brother, I'm your man. Cos where it all comes from is a mystery, It's like the changin' of the seasons, And the tides of the sea. But here's the one that's drivin' me beserk, Why do only fools and horses work? One of the best comedy writers of all time. Obviously known for OFAH, but he also wrote the programme Dear John, which was hilarious, but they only made two series due to the death of the lead actor. Ralph and his amazing disco - Green Door on repeat because the other record was scratched :) The US also made their own version. Ralph and his amazing disco - Green Door on repeat because the other record was scratched :) They released it on DVD for the first time last year, and it was great to relive it as they don't repeat the show like OFAH. There were some great lines in OFAH, with Dear John's being 'Were there any sexual problems?'
