Title: Oxford Away Post by: 4D on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 22:21:42 I hope it's the first game of the season, I haven't been to their new ground .....the last time I went to watch us away at the **** was on 09.01.1993 when Chalkie scored the only goal.
What's their new ground like, and how many tickets are we likely to get? Ta. x Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: THE FLASH on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 22:26:40 I will give you lift 4d!
The calne massive! Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: 4D on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 22:27:29 Sorted Flash :D
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: tans on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 07:42:21 The ground is shit.
Be lucky to get 2.5 k. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 07:57:43 For all the hype, Oxford has never been one of the biggest away games in terms of numbers for us. And their away following at our place is usually beaten by several other clubs as well. Next year may be a little different because we'll both be in Division 4...but I think anyone who's expecting these games to sell out will be disappointed.
Bristol City and Reading are bigger games for us in terms of the numbers who attend. Our history with these clubs goes back a lot longer as well. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Batch on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 10:40:13 I always see O*xford as our biggest rivals due to when I started supporting us. Then City. Then Rovers. Then the Pikeys. Then Reading, who I find largely irrlevant.
In short its not the numbers its the hartred! Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 10:50:57 I always see O*xford as our biggest rivals due to when I started supporting us. Then City. Then Rovers. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 10:54:11 I know. I'm just providing the other view (as usual). Of course I'll be right up for it when we play them again...but the fact is, a lot of our fans (and possibly theirs) just can't be arsed with these games.
For a start, Oxford have an annoying habit of building their grounds in the arse end of nowhere. OK, Headington was only a few miles from the middle of town, but still a pain in the arse to get to with parking being very scarce and the train station not really within walking distance. But the 'new' place?! Try finding a more inaccessible, out of sight and generally shit part of town to build a football ground and I'll give you a tenner. That - and the potential for aggro - just puts a lot of people off. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Batch on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 11:17:15 That - and the potential for aggro - just puts a lot of people off. Not disagreeing there. CG Attendances last 5 league games (year): 7, 975 (2000), 8,305 (1998), 10, 902 (1997), 10,811 (1996), 13,041(1995) Public lavatory away attendance: 7,480 (2001), 8,179 (1999), 8,005(1998), 8,167(1997), 8,585(1996) OK the Manure ground only held 9500, but even so it wasn't that close to a sell out. At the CG the only year we were close to a sell out was 1995 - a promotion winning season :) Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 11:33:16 The FA Cup game sold out though. I think both league games will too because we haven't played them for so long and there will be plenty of hype. If we're both doing well then the crowds will be larger in general anyway and there will more interest.
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 11:52:04 That last game at the manor was good funl.
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 11:58:01 It was. (Mind you, I've been to a few that weren't.)
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 12:06:30 According to the Scottish guy at the ticket office, the tickets go on sale tomorrow to season ticket holders at 8am. Better get to the ticket office early.

Maybe I'm slightly biased because I live in Oxfordshire so I'm at the front end, so to speak, of the constant yellow abuse but I can't really get that worked up about the Bristol teams or the Pikeys. As for Reading it seems to wind them up far more if we just ignore them instead. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 13:50:05 bet we dont
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 14:32:28 bet we dont Think it's a joke fB....O*ford can't sell out both ends, as they only have one. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 14:34:17 I don't get it
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 14:44:03 I don't get it Not sure I do, but the poster can't have been serious.... Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Panda Paws on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 15:34:47 The away ends will sell out, but can't see us selling out at home, will it attract a lot of floating fans, more then just the old boys who have stayed away?
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 15:39:16 No chance we will sell out the County Ground for it, we didn't even sell out for the play offs.
Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: jimmy_onions on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 15:46:03 I dont think we should get too wrapped about crowd size. If, for example, Leeds were in that division, that particualar fixture would prob attract the larger crowd ( + the floateers whom would prob stay away for Pox)..but Pox would be the 'bigger' game by a mile.
And for all you old fossils still maintaining the reading or city are the larger rivals...that boat has sailed chaps.... How often do those two get mentioned on here? How often are sngs sang about those two nowadays... things have moved on, Pox are now our biggest rivals. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 16:08:18 things have moved on, Pox are now our biggest rivals. Things get built up by keyboard warriors etc....remember how the Gills used to go on, then when they finally got to play us after 20 odd years an away following of about 300 turned up. You need a decent crowd to get a decent atmosphere, generally for games v O*ford, especially at the CG it's nothing special, as they don't bring the numbers. Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: Spencer_White on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 17:45:12 can't speak for the scum but we will sell out our ends for both games, anyone who thinks otherwhys is just wrong. I'll be you £50 that we dont sell out at the Pox, and £10000 we dont sell out the CG. Last game of the season, Oxford in 3rd auto place, us one point behind ? Title: Re: Oxford Away Post by: pauld on Friday, April 15, 2011, 11:43:05 Last game of the season, Oxford in 3rd auto place, us one point behind ? Oooh, blimey. That could be an "all police leave cancelled" jobTitle: Re: Oxford Away Post by: nevillew on Friday, April 15, 2011, 13:25:02 Or at least a UN resolution.
