Good e/w shout Dean, still getting over an injury but if he putts well he will be up there, this shorter course will suit Poulter who has started well.

Alvaro Quiros from Spain is in the worlds top twenty, and could go close at very juicy odds.
Should be an interesting 4 days with Woods trying to get his form back also.

I backed Kaymer  & Bubba Watson (both e/w)

Ironically my son picked Rory Mcilroy at 30-1

Sky seem to have it spot on with Monty commentating. He talks a lot of sense and really knows the course. Better than that big eared twat Gary Lineker.

Could Sky not have pinched Peter Allis though?

I assumed that as it was on Sky that the BBC did not have any broadcast rights. Shows how much I know.

Think David Howell is doing some commentary for Sky on the weekend.

As for Allis he would never leave the Beeb, they have been good to him and he is to much of a traditionist.

A bit like screaming 'come on you reds!' at the top of your voice...we all know it's not going to have any effect really but we do it none the less ::)

Casey, Donald and Tiger e/w were my 3.

Lefty's the massive danger already, played like a chode today and still scored well as he always does, if he starts hitting fairways he'll piss it.

Hope Woods gets the putter going cos the swing's back.

Donald and Tiger made that a profitable little e/w venture for me.

Well played Rory you silly Irish fuck, the big 8-0!

what a cracking climax that was.
thought tiger would romp it(no pun intended) but didn't go on from his awesome front 9 really.
rory's disaster was painful to watch and i really felt for the lad.shows he isn't quite there yet mentally to win a major as the mistakes he made were awful.

Yeah McIlroy's 10th-14th holes were cringeworthy to watch. Seemed to cope well after though and fair play to him for not shirking interviews and trying to put a positive spin on it. Sure he'll have plenty more chances in majors.

Great effort from Schwartzel, has been playing some lovely golf for a couple of years now, makes very few mistakes.

Birdie the last 4 holes at Augusta and you fully deserve your green jacket.

If there is a more beautiful venue than Augusta National in sports then I haven’t seen it. Shame about the club itself really, I read that a female journalist wasn’t allowed in the clubhouse to conduct interviews and I still believe they haven’t inducted Tiger Woods as member unlike all the other winners.

You have to hand it to Schwartzel even if his eagle on the 3rd was a total fluke and there was an element of that with the chip in on the 1st. In saying that if you are in contention for a major and you birdie the final 4 holes then you deserve the victory.

I actually predicted the Mcllroy collapse, although not to that extent, it is starting to become a little bit of a trend. I can see why people are saying that it will make him stronger and his time will come and that will probably be the case. However people were saying exactly the same thing about Garcia at that age when he got out duelled by Woods in the final round of the 1999 USPGA and at this moment in time you would get decent odds on him ever winning a major. So much of golf is about what goes on in your head, a lot of average golfers have won a major due to being able to get in contention and keep their head while other more talented players crack under the pressure. Prime example is Monty he had the game and certainly had the chance to take a couple of majors but it just became a mental issue in the end, I fear the Lee Westwood could suffer the same fate.

You're right about it becoming a trend, saw this crazy stat shown last night - In 3 of the last 4 majors the 54-hole leader has gone into the final round with a 3 or more shot lead, and then failed to break 80.

There must be something about the South African mentality that is suited to golf, they seem very relaxed and don’t seem to get flustered.  Els and Goosen won their share of majors and you will struggle find more clam and composed players than them.  Louis Oust… whatever his name is at the Open had pressure on him but it didn’t affect him at all.

I think the fact Schwartzel is the best putter in the game might have had something to do with it mate...

Which comes down to having good composure which was Abrahammers point.. No?

No, it's down to having the right technique and reading the greens. Especially at Augusta.

Look at Rorys putting all week, hardly holed a thing, if he had he'd have been 12 clear going in to round 4.

Post by: london_red on Monday, April 11, 2011, 12:49:55
Good point DMR, and interesting how Woods struggled with so many short putts, especially in the final round. If he'd holed a few of those (which used to be gimmes for him) and set the guys behind 12 or 13 under to chase down might have been his day.

Woods is a great example of what I'm trying to say, he's never been composed and calm on the golf course but for 5 or 6 years he was the best putter in the business.

If you are saying you don't need to be calm or composed you are a madman

Being pumped up helped Tiger hole more winning putts than it did make him miss.

On a personal level I've always putted better the more fired up I am cos I want to win that bit more than the cunt next to me.

I'll be going on the Thursday, £25 I think it is but i always get my money's worth by getting 12 hours viewing in. As you say there are loads of great viewing spots, I'd recommend any golf fan gets the chance to watch many of the worlds best up close and personal.

£35 on the day.£30 if you buy up to a week before, includes the parking of course and a  program that is why the four day  ticket is good value.
