not the best swindon goal but the sound of maskells shot at wembley in 93 as it hit the post will live with me forever! and the way he just stood by the corner flag by himself then the players just jump on him (including maclaren) i think!

i would say that goal aswell, fjortoft was fucking brilliant that night. i still think that is one of the best swindon games i've ever been to, both of andy mutch's goals were good aswell.

i also remember another goal fjortoft scored that season against brighton (ccc4?) when digby booted it out, it bounced once, & fjortoft just swivelled & hit it on the volley over the keeper. genius route one football.

I watched a prog the other night, which was the greatest England goal, not sure how it was arrived at, but Geoff Hiurst v W Germany to settle the WC of 66 got the nod. This on the basis that it settled the issue and England won something for the only time.

 So it has to be Don Rogers' second v Arsenal in 69.......

Duncan Shearer v West Brom at the Hawthornes.

Marlon Broomes on his debut (loan) v Brum (I think).

That Broomes goal was ridiculous.  I was sat in the Town End and yelled at the top of my voice that it was the best goal I'd ever seen - looking back there is no way it could be described as that, all he did was kick the piss out of it.

I'm taking nothing away from it, stuck from 35-40 yards out, and still rising as it goes in - it sure was one hell of a strike, but I prefer something a little more sublime, or a tap in after a flowing team move.

One of the best goals at the CG in my opinion was Horlock's against Southampton in the FA Cup, that was one touch football at it's very best. :D

I was thinking that earlier, I loved teh goal away against watford, not sure who scored, hoddle took a free kick and chipped in over the wall into the box, someone volleyed it back into teh six yard box and then I think it was headed in, anyone have any ideas about this goal? we were in teh green and white away shirt????

Igoe's v Notts County in 2003 was a beautiful team goal.  Loved it.

That would've been Chalky's third in a 4-0 win.  Quality day out.

I always liked Moncur's goal at Anfield where he played about three one-twos from the halfway line before sticking in the net.

 That was Steve White to complete a hat trick......Paul Bodin flicked Hoddle's free kick across and Chalkie volleyed it in.....great goal.....but to be the greatest then importance must come into it, as well as quality.

I liked Tony Grant's (against Hull?).  A lob from what at the time seemed like miles out.

Also, Kev Watsons against Grimsby in the game that Mark Halsey eneded up abandonning due to frozen ground was pretty damn good.

Yeah, that Grimsby game pissed me off - yes the pitch was unfit to play, but to abandon it in the first half, when it didn't really get any worse was daft - should have been postponed before kick-off.  As it was we would have won that game easily, but the rearranged fixture only bagged us a draw.

Good goal though, yes - quite similar to one he scored at Southend, which, if I remember correnctly was during the same season.

If the title of the thread was Memorable STFC Goals.....it would be better, with due respect to Blackcurrant I don't think Tony Grant's decent long range lob...or Watson's disallowed Grimsby effort can qualify as the greatest STFC Goal.

In terms of importance, in my lifetime Bodin's penalty and Invincible against The Posh must be the greatest.  Invincibles was actually quite a good goal to boot.

Anyone remember Sir Kenneth of Stroud's howitzer v Everton in the FAC.That was great-and won HTV'S Goal of the Season.

I remember that but wasn't sure if was one of those things that has got better with the passing of time than it actually was, like the Alan Mayes (or was it Andy Rowland) goal against Watford that won Goal of the Month on MotD - when I saw it again on the STFC video after many years it was a bit of a let down compared to how I remembered it.

Rowland scored the goal I think you are talking about.  Over-head kick(ish)?

At last ,i'm not the only one.My brother thinks i'm crazy for thinking this goal was the best ever.But as soon as it went in i knew we would be going up.Rory's goal was special as well .

Best goal in my STFC supporting days is far and away Fallons overhead kick.

You dont get many overhead kicks from outside the box being a town fan, and even less from commited but skill-less centre forwards like Rory

Bodin's penalty was the most important goal ever, never celebrated a goal as much as that.

Walters against Stevenage was very good, I felt sorry for their fans as it looked like we were going to take the piss and they were on the stratton bank and it was pissing it down....

Fallon's was a superb goal too.

Colin Calderwoods 80 yarder against Port Vale in 89 I think it was. Not an important goal but it takes the piss out of Beckhams effort.

As much as I dislike Beckham, his effort v Wimbledon was better and further out than Calderwood's v Vale

Tony Grant V Hull City was also very good lob.

Charlie Henry's against Gillingham in the play offs in 87.

Fantastic strike and it was bloody important.

the real question is........ can you find any of these wonder goals and put them on here for all to marvel at!

maskells goal at prenton park,  tranmere in the second leg of the play off semis where he dummied the keeper and stroked it in,
so much skill and composure under alot of pressure because the goal was pretty important aswell
(to put us 5-3 up on aggregate i think)

Never forget that, one of the best matches ever, and did we need that goal at the time, tons of pressure from Tranmere.

Moncur's 1st half goal wasn't bad either.

I could only watch that game on teletext unfortunately.  The first leg was extroadinary though.

1st game was class too. 2 up in 3 minutes, then Aldridge had a goal disallowed straight after that. One of the best starts to a game I've seen.

Steve Vickers, he must still have nightmares about those two games now. 8)

Parkins against Leeds. It was such a great team goal.
Gurneys against Leeds. Class free kick.

John Moncur at Liverpool was a beaut-and wasn't even in MOTD goal of the month but if one of the top sides had scored it it would have been talked about for months.Horlock v Soton in the FAC was another but Maskell's at Wembley is my favourite

Speaking of great goals, not really Swindon related but  does anyone know where I can find a video of possibly the greatest goal ever scored. Matt Le Tissier's one where he flicks it over three defenders and then volleys it into the net. That was pure class.

I often try to replicate it and once managed at least something vaguely similar but haven't seen it in ages.

I'm fairly sure I didn't imagine it though it is possible.

That Le Tissier goal is my joint favourite of all time along with Gazza's against Scotland.  :mrgreen:

He gets a pass just behind him somehow manages to stick out his left foot and juggle it over his head, flicks it past one defender with his right foot, juggles it over another defender and then slides it past the keeper.

Incredible. Le tissier is the only player who scored goals as good as Fjortoft when we were in the premieship.

That one Le Tiss scored against Blackburn was in my view one of the best ever, great control, looks up and over Tim Flowers it goes. :D

I remember Mike Hooper, played for Leicester against Swindon at Filbert Street in 90-91. David Kerslake sent off in the 1st minute, Shearer put us 1 up, looping header over Hooper, White made it 2-0 in the second half.

Don't remember much about their 1st to make it 2-1, do remember their equaliser in the 94th minute! We always got done at Leicester for those few seasons.
