Well done, KOT.

Here's to 3 points, Andrew to score, Dougie to break his duck and the defence to keep a clean sheet.

With the new wave optimism flowing through the thread, I'd be a fool to say it has to be anything other than a 2-1 Town win.

1-1 it is then.

Despite my confidence in the originator of this thread I still think we'll get beaten. D&R are on a reasonable run of form and no doubt they'll win virtually every physical battle. Lowest crowd of the season as well I'd guess.
Not sure why Hart has come in for so much stick when he's been here a week. I'm not sure he's had much other options given the complete and utter fucking dross we've got.
I hope I'm wrong.

Well the five in midfield means we're keeping it tight. I think they're more likely to knick a goal than us though so I'll go for 1-0 dagenham. With the odd chance of 0-0, 1-0 to us or 1-1

We can't score for toffee (or even Swindon for that matter).

Today will be another dull 0-0 draw, followed by complete silence because everyone will have eventually fallen asleep half way thru the 2nd half.

PS: is it Sunday today? The amount of Sunday drivers we encountered on the way down has me a but confused. :(

There's a tremendous amount of expectation weighing on Andrew today....  We're signing for strikers for fun but can't seem to get a good balance.  I do like a big/little man combo, and am praying this is the answer today.  Anything other than a win and I worry for next season....  A resounding win today would be huge but I can't see.

I'm declining to predict as I always predict a win and we lose.

Ironic thing is we haven't played much differently to the last couple of home games. It's just that we have taken advantage of a defensive mistake and scored. That in itself seems to have livened us up a bit & we looked like scoring at the end of the half.

As for the incident with Smith & Ritchie, have to say the keeper needs to communicate with the defenders. Just before Sheehan tried to head a ball back to him that was coming down from a great height, and can only assume he didn't get any kind of shout from Smithy as he was coming out.

Biggest concern for the second half is that we will try & defend this, rather than trying to put the game out of reach.

And now it's back to more fucking shitty bagpipes  :badmood:

NR appears to be under the impression that Rose coming on = a change to the back four and therefore was stupid and led to the goal. The fact that he came on for Grella and was therefore presumably playing wide in midfield, and the back four was exactly the same as it was for the previous 82 minutes doesn't seem to feature in his "thinking".

No wonder you're nick name is Lumps!

I think you were pursuing two lines of argument:

1 - that replacing a forward with a more defensive player in the last tem minutes of a game you're desperate to win is stupid and always goes wrong 2 - that the substitution somehow led to us conceding (I assume that was what provoked the torrent of abuse in Rose's direction)

The first is debatable - but your smart arse post would have been a lot more effective if it had been made before rather than after the goal. Tightening up in midfield when you're one nil up at home with 10 to play in a six pointer is hardly the most controversial of moves is it?

The second is the one I picked up on, as it was clearly bollocks.

Clear now?

Good

One word disgraceful.  The worst side I've seen at the CG for years, we couldn't beat them.  If Wilson's subs baffled anybody it won't be a patch on Mr Negative Cunt.  Took Grella off, put a defender on, says it all.  And it was a pen, the ref pointed to the spot, linesman flagged for a corner!!  Ref changed his mind.  For fuck's sake Fitton, get rid of Hart now!

As I replied to Norway, if you'd posted that as the substitution was made I might have a bit more time for it, but the smart arse wise after the event thing is just fucking annoying.

A huge number of managers in the same situation would have done the same thing. It's not like its a totally fucking bizarre substitution, like a few that Wilson made in the last couple of months, taking off a striker when WE WEREN'T WINNING!

I realise what you are saying, if we are going down let's at least give it a go, playing as negative as we do will not bring the fans in.  Taking a forward off and bringing on a defender and playing him out of postition is not the way forward.  I don't mind who manages, as long as we are at least playing with two strikers up.

I realise what you are saying, if we are going down let's at least give it a go, playing as negative as we do will not bring the fans in.  Taking a forward off and bringing on a defender and playing him out of postition is not the way forward.  I don't mind who manages, as long as we are at least playing with two strikers up.

That's fair enough ronnie21.

As stupid as it sounds nowadays, I was an advocate for Wilson for the rest of the season. It's most likely that I would have proved to be wrong but I don't believe Paul Hart was the answer to our prayers.

Time will tell. It was a very negative looking bench today.

alot of decisions will need to be made regarding the squad for next year.
if hart is the long term choice(i doubt this very much)then that's up to him.
if not, bringing in a new man now wouldn't be a bad idea.
wont happen though i'm sure.looking like may at the earliest

Oh fuck off you patronising cunt.

There are fucking hundreds of examples of teams taking off a striker and falling behind. I'm all to well aware of that.
There are also hundreds of examples of managers taking off a striker to pack the midfield for the last ten minutes, keeping it tight and taking the points.
Did you know which one would happen as the fourth official flagged?
No, so shut the fuck up about it.

Well same same old really. We started OK and actually created a decent chance for a change which Prutton cocked up typically. After that we lost our way a bit. Defending was poor and there was little communication and then for some reason Ritchie and Smith started having a pop at each other. At this point I was thinking about going home as it was clear that things were not great. Then out of nowhere pops Mike Grella with a great finish and all of sudden we surge their goal before half time looking for a second.

2nd half we were OK but nothing more than that. Ritchie came close with a good curling effort which forced a decent save from their keeper. then typically we sat back a bit, Hart made a strange sub and took off our best player in Grella and replaced him with Rose. Then they got a crappy deflected goal which for a change was actually unlucky on our part. Then Hart does the right thing and brings on Benyon for Timlin and both sides look to snatch it late. Caddis runs into the box gets sandwiched by 2 Daggers players who dont directly get the ball inside the box.....so the ref gives a corner.....bravo. Season summed up in 90 minutes. At least we scored thoughg I guess.

Yes, because a completely imbalanced World Cup game is directly comparable to a League One relegation scrap isn't it? I also thought it was a bad move (and I was at the game) but you are just being a bit of a knob.

Dagenham were shit, we were better and should have won. Their goal was a ridiculous deflection and the ref completely bottled the pen at the end but we should have had enough to have closed the game out by then.

On the upsides, Ritchie played well, Grella was bright, Andrew showed Pericard how the "big man up front" thing should be done (working hard, winning headers etc). Prutton on the other hand can fuck right off. Quite how he keeps getting picked is utterly beyond me.

Just back.

First the positives. After a shaky start we worked hard and took the game to Daggers. We were the better team and deserved to be ahead when Grella hassled their defender to win the ball and lob the keeper.

We carried that on in the second half and Andrew was an excellent target man winning the ball and putting himself about. Grellla was working his nuts off too so it was a bit surprising when he was taken off for Rose.

They were indeed spawny cunts for getting there undeserved equaliser which was deflected in.

The negatives. Well can't really fault effort. But for a couple of good saves and what looked like a good chance missed from Benyon at the end and we'd have got what we deserved.

However....what the fuck was Phil Smith on pushing lashing out at Ritchie. OK 'discussions' get heated but that was a total embarrassment of an incident and he made himself look a total twat. Had a reasonable game though.

Fair play to the daggers keeper for going along with the Town End. Not sure getting his tits out was necessarily a good thing mind.

The positives....Grella outstanding....Caddis outstanding and thought the whole team played ok especially second half.

Negatives.....why change the team at all?...it was all going to plan.
Rose on for Sheehan good move....on for Grella is baffling.
Great attendance again......but please Mr Fitton get a manager in and start from scratch....Hart is not the answer for the future in my opinion.
A little unlucky again today....but decent teams dont rely on luck every match.
Oh and a good work rate from Andrew up front.....Pericard and Obika could learn a bit from that.

On radio now, maybe they'll ask him. As I saw it, looked like he cleaned Ritchie out when he punched the ball clear (which as a keeper is fair enough) then Ritchie had a go at him verbally and whatever he said upset Smith enough to try throttling him

Serious post:

We have the best team on paper for years, but we can't seem to work out a way to win matches.

Problems:

1) IN YOUR HEAD - psychologic aspect. Keep on loosin', keep on getting sticks from fans and shitheads like myself (who abuse them online instead of on-pitch).

2) GROUP - working together as a group of players. They don't seem to have fun when they are playing. Football should be fun. Today Smith and Ritchie had an argument during the game. That's a wake-up call, should be... I remember in the 90s that Middlesbrough once tried to make it in PL, and on paper signed a lot of big names. They couldn't group together and got relegated. David Prutton and Jonathan Douglas are good players on paper, but it doesn't work at STFC. Get rid of them both!

3) FOCUS - just focus a little more on winning football games and playing football than tweeting your broken feelings out to people. You loose, you get stick - you win, you get applaud. That's life, Sons of bitches!

Just got back from the game.

Two poor teams and a poor game overall.  Last season we would have won that 4-0

Was impressed with the new boy upfront as well as Caddis and Ritchie.  Grella did well first half but looked cream crackered in the second half.  Thought he should have been replaced by O Brien as Dagenham lacked any pace in defence.

Overall a fair result based on the lack of clear cut chances either team produced.

There was a good reason Grella was taken off and that was beccause he was completely fucked.  He'd been struggling for the last 10 minutes.  I did wonder why Benyon never cam on as a replecement though.

Anyway people really need to stop knocking the players if there is even a faintest chance of us staying.  Rose did nothing wrong when he came on and put in a few decent runs and a great cross for Benyon.

I had to laugh when Vic and Phil both said how that decision going against us will cost us our place in League 1... I think the damage has been done already gentlemen...

Still, it's good to hear that we've finally managed to take the lead in a game and were somewhat unfortunate not to get all 3 points thanks to a combination of an unfortunate goal and a poor refereeing decision - even when we perform, luck goes against us. Sadly anything less than 3 points at home feels like a defeat at this point in time.

Whats with the 'I can't work out where it all went wrong' bollocks that has been on here and I heard a few people saying today. It's fairly obvious for fuck sake.

What a vast improvement!

Andrew looked up for it and got stuck in...what we have needed all season.

Cuthbert shut his big jock yop and let his feet do the talking...and..played well.

Probably deserved a win but thats the story of the season!

Grella for rose? What was hart thinking???   He may of been bollocksed but rose??? Fuck off!

Looked a cert pen at the death but i thought they had one first half.....however i thought the ref pointed to the spot??

See you at hudders.

For the first time this season I felt we were genuinely unlucky as opposed to whinging, bleating unlucky. Calvin Andrew had a great debut - chased everything, good in the air and a decent touch on the ground, a little bit of pace and best of all clattered their goalkeeper a couple of times. When was the last time that happenned. Grella was also very good as was Caddis. I thuoght Cuthbert's distribution was Ifillesque and Sheehan's delivery was very dissapointing.
Fair play to Roberts who along with Clayton ince show how goalkeepers should take the abuse. I particularly liked the salute to the soldiers - good sport, sir.
I really can't see the abuse thrown at Hart. I thuoght his line up today was as good as it gets. Lazy fucker Obika not on the bench again. Rose and JPM dropped - two of our most consistently useless players this season. Grella was fucked so he put Rose out at left midfield. I would have gone with O'Brien but we're 1 up and it wasn't a bad substiution.
Ritchie and Smith was much ado abuot nothing and should be forgotten.
Thier goal really was very unlucky. The player the shot hit knew jack all about it.
As for the penatly, the ref gave it, pointed to the spot and then changed his mind when the the lino flagged for a corner.
For once, we were unlucky and i really can't see what else Hart can do so lets give the guy a fucking break.

On the note of clattering the keeper, it was nice to see the keeper not roll around, play for the free kicks but to just get up and get on with it! you can tell Roberts is old school!

Andrews was pretty good, never looked like scoring but having him up top made Grella alot more threatening as Grella could get the ball deep, play it forward, then carry on running and get the ball again. Andrew was certainly more Chief than Trevor fucking Benjamin.

Though Ritchie was poor on the right because all he wanted to do was cut in. Keep him on the left.

Can see what Hart was trying to do re: Grella for Rose but didnt think it was a great idea at the time as I know from experience we dont really do 'seeing out games' or 'keeping it tight for the last 10'

People always seem to blame the ref. Yes we've had shit refs, but it's our own fucking fault for where we are.

When you think a year ago we weren't too far off Leeds, Norwich and Millwall, all of who have a sniff at the Prem, while we're on our way to Div 4 it's  :(

Exactly. It is a sad state of affairs, and yes at times we've been unlucky, but we've had so many chances to win games an just haven't taken them.

There's no way Millwall will reach the play-offs, let alone win them.

But it's still a good point. If we could have nicked a few more points from games like Exeter and Wycombe at the end of last season we could have had a good go at the Championship this year. I think that's what makes our current plight so hard to take.  Relegation happens, but it's not often you find yourselves 2 divisions away from where you'd hoped to be.

Last season we had two players who were scoring goals.

Now we have none.

If we had a game like today last season we would have scored three goals & their lucky deflected goal wouldn't have mattered.

FWIW, we have scored more league goals from midfield this season already than we did in the whole of last season

Cuthbert has a mask to wear apparently so he should be available.  At least he admitted that it was down to his own shocking first touch that he got injured.

I thought it affected him today because he was poor.  Andrews was decent, Ritchie not at his best, Sheehan improved us and Grella was good.  The Stick that Rose is getting is undeserved, it was the manager that made the sub not him, he's hardly going to disagree is he?

Amen to that.

As for the substitution, it was very much in keeping with our general tactics, very negative.

As much as anything it sends the message that we are settling for what we have.

Yes you're right, though that doesn't negate the fact that it was a 'cast-iron', 'stonewall', 'certain penalty' at the end.

A couple of points.

Same shit different day. Yes we played better, yes we finally scored but once again we concede.

People having go at the players in the TE should be ashamed of themselves.

It looked like a pen, however those saying that it could cost us our League 1 status are miles off, what will/has cost us is the fact that we have been conceding stupid goals game after game after endless fucking game.

Michael Rose is never a defender in a million years.

Michael Rose is never a midfielder in a million years.

Hart isn't the future for this club, a good coach, but not at this club at this time.

I'm hating football at the minute.

I'm dreading the next two games, let's keep the scoreline respectable lads.

I agree, i wasn't keen on Hart's appointment in the first place but i'm guessing a lot of people on here feel that way? People on here questioned Wilson's tactics but Hart seems very negative with his approach and we should have gone all out attack against Walsall and again today but i just think he's not a good enough manager and hasn't had the impact the board were expecting.

He is a very good coach especially as a youth coach but he's not really management material his record clearly shows that too, Ok as a stop gap but nothing more i still think we should have gone for someone else but i'm guessing he won't be here next season regardless of what League we are in and it's looking more and more like League 2.

Even if he performed a miracle and kept us up i would want a more modern younger manager in for next season.

Smith deserved it for his dickheadedness. Though people tell me it was aimed at Ritchie.

The ref was one of the better ones we have had this year, 'penalty' aside. But  the penalty decision was huge. It happened a bit quick for me, if he got it wrong it was a blunder. That said Daggers had half a shout in the fist half. Seen those given before.

I thought the ref pointed for a goal kick. He then changed his mind when the lino flagged for a corner. I was too far away to have a view as whether Caddis was fouled or not, but from where I was sat, the ref did well to give us the corner.

No rose-tinted specs, but we were unlucky not to win today. It was a shit deflected goal to concede and we had more than enough chances to avoid the draw, but, as always, we didn't take them and suffered for it.

We are where we are due to us being shit all season. Not looking forward to a season or more in the basement of the FL, but that's where we'll be come the back end of this summer.

I was in the Town End and was incensed at people having a go at Ritchie. He is a very important player for us now, what the fuck do those handful of fans think they are doing? Smith and Ritchie rightly made up at half time.

Andrew and Grella would both be very good permanent signings.

Looked like a penalty to me at the end. The Dagenham player on the right looked like he might have got the ball, but the one on the left only got Caddis' legs. Same old.

Next day and I'm still gutted.
The second that the Daggers lucky ricochet settled in our net I was crestfallen and the only other time I've felt like that was Newport County away all those years ago.
After yesterdays performance I wish some of you here and on Thisis would cut Paul Hart some slack.  This is a whole new team under Hart, really impressed how he's got these players going.
I'm not going to give up hope and see 4 points in the next 2 games swinging our way.

Yep, Hart did pretty well yesterday. He has rightly booted Obika into touch after his dismal show of effort last week. I think we did have good enough forwards to play 4-4-2 yesterday, but I thought the actual team selection was the best we could have put out.

I didnt notice the ref that much, but he did make one other terrible decision. A Dagenham player commited a bad professional foul on Grella to stop him breaking towards goal, after which another Dagenham player grabbed Grella in a headlock to make it look like Grella was out of control, when Grella had hardly reacted at all, very very snide gamesmanship. Of course this meant Grella and the Dagenham player were booked, when in fact it should have been 2 Dagenham players.

How disappointing was that... The team appeared to be up for it yesterday lots of effort going in from everybody. Andrews settled in well, hopefully Vincent was watching to see how he could change his game...perhaps Palace wil ltake Vincent in exchange. Hart has instilled a postive approach so lets get off his back for a bit.

Great interview with Phil Smith on BBC after the game....I thought it came acroos that the players ( well Smith ) do care about us the fans.....

We`re going down but if we play like yesterday in Div 2 we`ll come back up quickly.

The problem with Grella may be the formation we play. I see him as a great player in the hole, not an out and out striker or a winger. But thank God we've now got two players upfield that can hang on to the ball and battle for everything.

I'm not happy with the season and I'd rather it didn't happen they way it has but here we are and I'll be on here next season whether we're still in League One or struggling in League Two.

What with my change of shifts in July I have no made a single away game this season. Listen to us get beat on the radio whilst posting on the TEF, more me anyway - its half as frustrating as watching us get beat at the County Ground.

At least when you arent watching you are never 100% certain what is actually going on/what is going wrong.

Probably worse for me though being the typical 'beat seat manager' if you will because when sat at the County Ground most of the time I can see the glaringly obvious problems and find it really frustrating the players/manager cant see it!!!

Compelling stuff.

I swear coming on this forum is like walking into a village pub ! I just aint in the click  :smugfu:

Nor am I, but you are being a twat.

If he had run the length of the pitch so he was right in front of the Town End, and stood on the six yard box celebrating I could see you point, but punching the air on about the half way line isn't quite the same.

Didn't stop me calling him a cunt at the time mind, just don't see way the FA should even consider any punishment.

I'm not agreeing him at all (cos he's a twat) but Doe did turn to celebrate at the Don Rogers.

The further we slip down the league, the more this will happen.

The likes of Revell and Monkhouse celebrated like it was an FA Cup final against us. Thats because they are probably clever enough to realise Swindon is the best supported team they have ever played for, or will ever play for. Doe probably feels a bit the same, he knows he is now up to our level and has got one over on us.

Players should be encouraged to celebrate goals as much as possible. Football needs to see players with ambition excited about winning.

Charlie Austins celebrations were legendary.

Smith deserved it for his dickheadedness. Though people tell me it was aimed at Ritchie.

I know you posted this last night so were probably still fucked off (or you might still feel the same) Smith may have deserved it, but the "fans" can still fuck off in my opinion.  In the middle of a game that we desperately need to win, there is absolutely no benefit in slagging off the players verbally, one to one if you get my point, and certainly not Ritchie who is usually one of our few bright sparks.

Fucking Morons!  Boo, run on the pitch or give them the wanker sign after the game, fine!  But not half way through a game we need to fucking win!  Not that I agree with personal abuse after the game either.  The shit that happened after the Plymouth game personally or on Twitter hasn't exactly improved the attitude of the players and therefore our chances of survival has it?

All about opinions Batch I know, and yours I respect, but you are wrong you miserable old match day opinionated bastard!  :smugfu:

BTW, well done Wacko for cheering up everyone's Sunday afternoon with shit all (decent) football on TV!  I did see that smug fucker giving the DRS the finger and telling them to fuck off after they scored, and would have loved to have run on the pitch and smacked his teeth down his throat, but if I was in his position I would have done exactly the same!  Used to love ramming it down spectators throats when I was playing, even if it was some random bloke walking his dog at the time!

Peace out!

Just sat and read through this thread because I couldn't be arsed last night.

I agree with what most have said already. Grella and Andrew really impressed me alot. Andrew is like a much better version of Pericard. He's mobile, strong, wins headers and works hard.

Have to say, i'm not Phil Smith's biggest fan but on a few occasions, he saved us big time. Had a decent game.

Frampton still causes a few 'heart in the mouth' moments and I wish he wouldn't piss about with the ball so much and just clear it!

Lastly, Norway Red you really are becoming an irritating twat on here. I'm not sure if it's just a 'forum persona' or you're really like it?

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team clique.
