Title: Brighton fan in peace - Wilson going might just save your bacon Post by: oldboy on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 23:17:10 Not here to gloat just to say that although it's a real shame that it didn't work out for Wilson (great player for the Albion, top bloke too) I think there are obvious comparisons with Brighton a few years ago.
Under Micky Adams, the second time round, we were languishing in the relegation zone with a dozen games to play. Adams had started to become a little unhinged. It was as if he was one of those WWI generals - if I keep trying the same tactic that has failed enough it must eventually succeed - right? Adams played players out of position, left the best players on the bench, insisted playing players who were obviously out of sorts and low on confidence, started distrusting the fans, refused to change his tactics and made substitutions far too late in a game. There was no plan B and Adams couldn't see that plan A was wrong. Adams got the sack and we brought in a tall bald bloke in tracksuit and baseball cap. I don't know how but somehow Russell Slade kept us up. They say the table doesn't lie but it did that year. We started the final game needing to win to stay up. We finished as 16th or 17th, I think. Christ knows how but we did. I think everyone knew that Slade wasn't ever going to be a long term solution but he did do the job when we needed it. Anyway, I'm rambling...Hopefully for you, Hart will bring in some half decent loan players and lift the team enough for you to stay up. The other thing we Brighton fans did that I think really helped was that attendances increased especially away from home. It was brilliant, being part of the crowd when we managed our Great Escape and I think the players responded too. Get behind your team. Your club needs you more than ever.
