Title: Thorpe and Cureton signing today (ITV News)
Post by: Papa Smurf on Thursday, June 30, 2005, 12:24:11
Just saw ITV news and they said they will be signing today. They only mentioned it because they both used to play in Bristol!
Don't really think we need two strikers though.

On the other site it says that the other player is Jack Smith from Watford, but i expect those children are only speaking shit again.

No it is definitely Jack Smith from watford. It was announced on radio Swindon. I'm waiting for the official announcement, Itv may just be talking about rumours as fact.

If this is true, 2 decent strikers giving us 4 altogether wouldnt be such a bad thing. Catons not ready at all.

If the Jack smith thing is true then that covers the left back slot. We still need a left winger and defensive midfielder though

Well if they are so's Ed Hadwin who's just been on BBC WS saying he's been at the CG signing forms this morning.

Was hoping nicholas would play left back this year. Although this Jack Smith sounds quite attacking, so maybe he'll play left wing?

Why has King said one of the other two signings will excite the fans? Whose more exciting Cureton or Thorpe? This isn't definite yet.

Will be a stormer if we pull that trio off.

I want a central midfielder and a left winger and then I'll be satisfied.

Gotta feel a bit sorry for Fallon and Roberts though, they might have expected to be fighting for a place alongside a replacement for Parkin but it looks like they're gonna be bench-warming now.
I think I'd like to see Fallon used in swap deal for an experienced and proven central midfielder.
I thought Roberts was gonna get the opportunity to come out this season all-guns blazing with a point to prove to King that he was being wasted out on the wing.

Well, as has been said before all we need now are a couple of midfielders and an experienced central defender, and we could be right up there again.

That strikeforce will certainly worry a few defences this season - relegation is a definate no-no now. :soapy tit wank:

Until we see them in a town shirt we can never be too sure, but it does sound pretty certain.

I am a little worried the likes of Roberts will be played out of position but you have to hand it to Kingy he's come up trumps with this pair. Hopefully more signings to come as well  :D

Nice report by Sky

Double boost for Swindon
by Alex Dunn -  created on 30 Jun 2005

Swindon Town are expected to be handed a massive pre-season boost with the signing of experienced strike duo Jamie Cureton and Tony Thorpe.

Both players have proven pedigrees at this level and would be an impressive coup as Town boss Andy King looks to replace departing favourite Sam Parkin.

4-3-3 by default!

4-2-4 maybe???

Just watched some of their goals on STFC World - they are going to make us smile next season.

Thorpe has good quick feet, and looks a very assured finisher, while Cureton just looks class.

Expect a shed load - so long as we get a decent midfield.

I can't believe we've picked up two well known goalscorers, I know they've not scored a lot of goals in the last season or so but they both have some pedigree at Lge 1 level, wicked signings!

Very pleased with yesterdays progress.

Cureton's goalscoring record looks very good, showing that he is more than capable of scoring 20+ goals a season at this level, although he may be a bit rusty after a couple of seasons on the sidelines at Loftus. However, i'm confident that he is a worthy of filling SSP's boots this season.

Thorpe has got journeyman written all over him, could give useful experience to the likes of Caton and Fallon. Decent goalscoring record as well, so a strike partnership to salivate over :P

Got a feeling that it could be the end of the road for Mr Fallon though, if not immediately, then before Christmas. Unfortunately, i don't think we have the resources to have 5 strikers on the books.

Don't know too much about Smith, checked him out on FM2005, stats are pretty good and he plays at right back, which could be an indication that Jenks will be in midfield for the main part next year. Not necessarily a bad move. Certainly, he is a decent young prospect at 21 years old.

Good work Kingy :D ..........just need a midfield now! :?

Not that I've seen, but he's in the pictures of training on the official site, so I assume it's all sorted.

To city:

we've got more strikers than you.... we've more strikers than you

If Roberts and Thorpe play together that day we could sing:

We're gonna win with your rejects, your gonna lose with our rejects.....
Class!
