Title: Anyone remember?
Post by: FlashGordon on Thursday, December 30, 2010, 10:13:06
The first hattrick they saw scored by a Town player?

Randomly racking my brains last night and one of my most memorable games watching STFC was when we beat QPR on bonfire night years ago? Danny Maddix got sent off for them? I'm fairly sure Chris Hay netted a hattrick?

Bloody loved that night.

Good question. Although I'd supported Town for a few years prior, I think the first I actually saw was Big Dunc's 4 at Plymouth in 1991. Great times.

Ernie Hunt v Derby in 64.....Ernie was a class act....ace footballers name (he was really Roger)...ace haircut...ace walk.  Proper Swindon boy.

I like hat tricks....4's/5's are even sexier.

Archie Bown...

I once saw Dennis Brown score 4 at Dean Court. Saturday would be a good day for Charlie to do something memorable before he leaves.

Chris Hay's hat trick was v Port Vale...

The QPR game was probably the one, where Craig Taylor smacked one in from about 25 yards, raising hopes he might be as good as his brother...he wasn't

Maskell in the season we went up.  Against Cambridge at home.  At the time we were the polar opposites, us playing pure football, them playing hoofball.  If I remember rightly they sent players out during halftime to practise twatting the ball from box to box.  Before the game started they were practising by the athletics track and from the southside we could just see high balls aimlessly going from side to side.

Not the first one I saw, but one that sticks in the mind was Steve Foley when we tonked Leicester 5-2. Great to see a midfielder getting forward like that.

Mine was either the Ray Mchale one in the match that was abandoned against Brighton. Or the Trevor Anderson hatrick of Penalties v Walsall, whatever of those came first.

Chalky White away at Watford in the promotion season.

I remember chris hays against port vale. Vale scored a 25 yarder that game, and some bloke a few rows in front of me started applauding. Looking back it was probably a sarcastic clap aimed at our defence, but at the time I thought it was an act of great sportingness.

Other than that the only other one I can remember was Parkins against wrexham, when we came back from 2 down to win 4-2. Oh, and Paynters against bournmouth when we won 4-1 a few seasons back.

I think the first one I saw must have been Sam Parkin. I started supporting us at a time when the chances of us scoring 3 in a game at all were slim, so it took a while to see a hattrick!

Actually, scrub that, it was a good hat-trick but i remember Peter Coyne getting one against Northampton in 85 i think when we won 3-2, that was probably my first one.

And what a fucking atmosphere that was from us. Always used to love going to Watford with that terrace and low cover.

2 pens....the winning goal pen being conceded by Russell (Bender) Lewis, who completely needlessly handled with about 5 mins to go.

Come to think it that was my first hattrick

Werent we 3-0 up after 20 mins or something?

Yeah White scored after a minute IIRC, got his hattrick with about 10 mins to go from a ridiculous flick across goal from Bodin's heel.

Mine was on 27/03/1979 a David Moss hat trick versus the Scummers. Lively occasion as always. I also remeber Rowland getting 4 v Rotherham a couple of seasons later. Seen a fair few since including Charlie Henry's away v Halifax when we got promoted out of div 4.
Pedanrtic alert, McHale only got 2 v the Gay Boys when it was abandoned - if it was 3 then that would hav e been my first hat trick also.

Thing I remember about the Rowland 4, was that they were all more or less tap ins. I'm glad you confirmed that McHale didn't get 3 v Gayers, I had no memory of that happening, but I was particularly out of my head that game, which may have accounted for it.

I had to look it up in the book with all the scores, scorers etc in. Believe it or not I was in a fairly similar state it being Boxing day and all.

Not my first hat-trick but I can remember Quinny getting hat tricks against Bristol City and Pompey in the League Cup in 1987/88 and these included some spectacular long range efforts. Quinny had a fantastic season that year and scored 31 goals in all competitions. I think he made a couple of bad moves after leaving us for Leicester and Bradford and it wasn't until he was re-united with Lou at West Ham that he kickstarted his career again.

He took the piss a couple of times that season.  Notts county as well.  Maybe a 5 nil victory.  1 was a penalty where hoddle was juggling the ball in their box and kicked it onto the defenders hand.  He was class that year.

The first town hat trick I can remember is Chalkie White's away to Watford in 93'.

Don't know if this really counts as I got chucked out in the second half for being under the influence and missed his third goal...

Also remember asking Ernie Wise (Some of the older lot on here will remember him) if he could get me back in. Fair play to him, he tried as he didn't want pissed up town fans wandering the mean streets of Watford causing mischief.

Fairest copper I ever met was FLO Wise, still a Cunt mind...

Indeed he did....I was thinking about Shaun Taylor when in the Adver piece Frampton was going on about the little kicks he'd got.  In that one, OST goes off to get his head bandaged up, a la Terry Butcher....get's back on for the corner, and promptly powers it in with a trademark header.
