Title: TEF Glasto Reports
Post by: oxford_fan on Monday, June 27, 2005, 15:45:46
Post here when you return.

I didn't meet any other TEF'ers. I did see the following artists though:

High Contrast (ace)
Zinc
Zutons (very good)
Babyshambles (captivating)
Bloc Party (superb)
Roots Manuva (mic volume problems)
Chemical Brothers

Task Force (my highlight)
Coral (v. good)
Keane (v. good)
New Order (suprisingly good)
Coldplay (fantastic)

James Blunt (v. good)
Jools Holland
Primal Scream (nuts)
Basement Jaxx

As I was stumbling about in the mud walking towards the Other stage to see Babyshambles, I turned around and who did I see but Doherty and Kate Moss stood about 3 steps behind me. Photographers were following him and a load of blokes shook his hand.

Task Force were fucking brilliant. Chester publically offered everyone drugs "I know a bloke who can sort you out with anything up at the stone circle later, none of the dirty shit mind" which i found funny.

Primal Scream was rather strange. He called the crowd a "bunch of fucking hippies" about 3 times and asked "do you want to see the stone roses?" "well fuck off, your 15 years too late". He (the lead singer) looked absolutely mashed and left stage a couple of times too. Stopped the band at the start of a song when they didn't want to stop and was generally a rather confused yet very entertaining gig.

Next time I'm ensuring that I go with people who like gooderer music as I'd much rather be watching DJ Format instead of Keane but there's only so much random bollocks i can chat to strangers.

I feel for you if you had to watch Keane, though I'm sure NoMoreHeros and other people on this forum will disagree - they seem overly liked for a very average band.

More importantly than the music, how much of the weekend was spent not under the influence of some substance?

i've had about 4 poo's in the half a day i've been back.

i did one there on the 4th day and (being a bit stoned and paranoid) stood up half way through to check that it wasn't my intestines hanging out as it was taking ages. biggest poo of my life.

did you get lots of drugs in you? I feel terrible for missing out on every single festival this year.

Going to go to as many as possible next summer. Global Gathering is still a possibility for this summer

global gathering looks nice.

i smoked about 1/4 weed and perked myself up for the d&b suitably but no new experiences. acid could be worth a go there next time but the lads i was with aren't really into all that.

I heard earlier that Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream frontman) got arrested by security mid-set.

It sounded ace, you lucky cunts.

Quote
PRIMAL SCREAM took on GLASTONBURY in fighting mood, refusing to leave the stage tonight (June 26) as the festival headed toward the final lap.

At the end of a hit-packed second headline set on the Pyramid Stage, the band overran after ‘Moving On Up’, but not before announcing they were going to finish with a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Gimme Some Truth’.

However, agitated singer Bobby Gillespie refused to leave the stage after time was called, baiting the crowd as Mani played the bass riff to ‘I Want You Back’ by the Jackson 5. Eventually, the plugs were pulled and the singer was moved from the stage by security.

Throughout the show, Gillespie had been in antagonistic mood, calling the crowd “fucking hippes” before playing ‘Kill All Hippies’ and calling, “Did anyone come to see Kylie? Fuck yous,” and later antagonising headliners Basement Jaxx.

The singer also took on Other Stage headliner Ian Brown, asking the crowd if they really wanted to see a reformed Stone Roses.

Thats not to say that acid in the right place cant be fantastic because it most certainly can.3 hours solid laughing followed by a spaced out cheery 10 hours is blinding.I always used to think it made the pores on my skin bigger and it always left a funny taste in my mouth.

Just got back  8)

Got a fucking job interview at 10 that I just found out about so going to stay up until 9am to re-schedule.

Saw...

Friday
The Thrills (Superb)
The Zutons
THe White Stripes
The Killers

Saturday
GLC
Kaiser Chiefs
New Order

Sunday
Jools Holland
Soulwax
Van Morrison
Brian Wilson
The Bravery
Primal Scream
Too Many DJ's
End of Basement Jaxx

Was fucking awesome arrived Wednesday about 1:30 in the afternoon and had to queue for about two hours in heat I haven't experienced since Thailand.

We had to wait for a load of mates to arrive so we just crashed out near the 'other stage' and took in the atmosphere.  Fortunately the two spots we picked out, by the John Peel Stage and where everyone got flooded out, where vetoed by the rest of the group when they arrived and we trudged up a massive hill for a cracking spot.

Highlight had to be New Order they where superb and I slacked everyone off to watch the full set as they wanted to watch something else.  Keith Allen turned up at the end riding a pantomime horse for a blazing rendition of World in Motion.

Drank and smoked far to much and seemed to have literally lost hours and hours but it all seemed worth it in the end.

Will throw a few pics on later.

I rerckon Brian Wilson commanded the biggest crowd of the whole weekend - I'm so glad I was there for that, he was fantastic.

When he went off stage and came back on for a few more songs the crowd went absolutely balisic, it was one of the highlights of the festival for me.
