Depends if anyone leaves really.

As it stands a centre back (Frampton if he is good enough), Ritchie and I still think wed be a strier short!

Micky Nelson or Adam Barrett, Ricthie on a permanent and a half decent striker (or two, if Charlie leaves)

a decent experienced centre half and another striker or 2 if Ball returns to Man City, then a right winger to give JP decent competition for his place in the team, and maybe another centre midfield player if we sell Timlin

If we need a decent experienced centre back to bring some solidarity to the back then look no further than out of contract Chris Perry.... Surely there is no harm offering him a trial at least?

Here's hoping Wilson can pull off some 'season changing' signings, like he did when he first arrived.

Where's the 'if we sell Timlin' talk come from? I've not been keeping up to date with goings on recently, so may have missed something! He's been in good form of late, so would be a shame to lose him now, especially seeing as Dougie is suspended

Title: Re: january transfer window

Timlin had a couple of good games and then went back to his usual standard in my opinion.

But is that down to Wilson playing him on the left? I always thought he was a central midfielder.

Withouth wanting to be all doom and gloom i think we could see alot of changes in january.

I can see Austin, Douglas, O'Brien leaving... With one of the young'uns going out on loan.

So to my mind we'll need 2 Strikers, 1 experienced central midfielder plus Frampton & Ritchie to stay to the end of the season.

Post by: PHIL!!!! on Thursday, December 23, 2010, 11:54:27
Why do you think O'Brien is leaving? Have there been rumours of him going, or are you just speculating? I've not been keeping up to date with it all recently, you see!

Where the hell as all this Dougie leaving talk come from?

Last year people were saying he had no relationship with Greer and now its Wilson. Blimey if he has fall outs with this many people i wouldn't reckon on his marriage lasting long.

Title: Re: january transfer window
Post by: PHIL!!!! on Thursday, December 23, 2010, 11:56:14
I can see two or three loanees being brought in when the window opens, as well as maybe one, possibly two permanent deals. I can't really see many players leaving. Austin being the only realistic move imo.

Just speculation Phil, wilson was prone to bringing him on for 20mins or so for a while, but that stopped 5 or so games ago after he got dogs abuse for being genreally rubbish and hasn't featured since. Wilson eluded to freeing up wages and i'm sure he's on a decent wedge.... just shooting in the dark really.

Thats my point, he isn't a wide midfielder.

But you can't use that excuse for having two good games then playing his usual average way, which he has done in the past and in centre midfield.

Personally I think he came in chomping at the bit but for what ever reason couldn't sustain that level. Which pretty much sums up his career in my opinion.

Great, another O'Brien (based on what i read on wikipedia)

From Wiki -

Leicester manager Martin O'Neill had briefly been Eadie's manager at Carrow Road during his spell as Norwich boss in 1995. At the time he signed Eadie he stated that he was a player that he had tried to sign on previous occasions. At the time, the £3,000,000 fee was the highest that Leicester had ever paid for a player. Eadie's injury problems did not relent, however, and in his three and a half years at Leicester he was limited to just 40 appearances. When his contract expired in the summer of 2003, Eadie was forced to retire as there was no prospect of him recovering fully from his injuries.

Slightly harsh, Williams was a regular in City's line up in the Championship not so long ago and is a goalscoring threat from midfield, something we lack. Not the best signing but wouldn't be the worst.

As for Bowditch being no better than Pericard, I'd have a look at both of their goalscoring records. I know who I would rather have.

Not sure but I'd be a little scepticle as I don't think he's worth £150k and the money would definitely be better spent on a striker or central defender

He's hit and miss like most of the players this season, we blew a large chunk of our budget on Ferry and Caddis in the summer to the detriment of other positions, we can't afford to do the same in Jan.

Very hit and miss. Can literally look to be two different players depending on the week you watch him. He does however, have that bit of quality about him. Max for him though would be 50k.

Every player has been hit and miss. It's because the team had in general. Doesn't mean to say we shouldn't sign Ritchie. He's been very good for us on a few occasions and on the others he's been solid enough without being rubbish. So you think we should save 150k and play Alan O'Brien on the left instead?

No I'm saying £150k is alot when we have more pressing issues, £50k yes thats good business but £150k in my opinion is way over the odds. We're not going to spend much this January so to use £150k of it on a left winger would be a bit of a waste, I'd rather it went towards a half decent centre back or striker.

We're after strikers already as well. We all know Fitton's policy is to spend on youth so we won't be spending anything for an experienced CB.

Although I think £150k for him is a little steep, and his performances have been a bit hit and miss, I do think Ritchie could settle down and become a more valuable player. Wilson likes playing formations in which wingers thrive. What fee would Portsmouth have been looking for 6 months ago? £400k?

Sometimes when players sign after a loan spell they take it easy for the first few months as a full time player. We can't afford him to do that this season. We need him to bring some excitement to the home fans.

Well he's better than O'Brien or Timlin so it's a no brainer for me. Can't believe some people are actually concerned we are trying to sign someone better than what we have. Just my opinion of course though. But we have nothing else at LM.

Been linked with West Ham and plenty of championship teams with figures of 500k plus being bounded around, doubt we'd have a chance, plus I doubt he'd wanna leave promotion chasing Bournemouth for us at the moment unless we can put a run together

I think Ritchie is good but is definitely hit and miss. Sort of player that will shine when the entire midfield is on top. He's infinitely more skillful than O'Brien.

The fee does seem like a lot but who's to say we won't be getting in other players. I think we'll be spending some money in January, particularly if Austin goes.
