Title: What films are like this?
Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 10:16:18
Bit of help please TEF, the old dear only wants a film or 2 for xmas this year and wants something funny.

My Mum's idea of funny is often something kids laugh at. She loves that National Lampoons crap and would like something similar.

Any ideas please?

Arnie's "Jingle Bells" is pretty similar to NL type stuff and is Christmas themed. It's quite dreadful but from what you've said she might like it. Similarly "Deck the Halls", also Christmas themed, also same kind of humour, also dreadful. Failing that if she likes stuff kids laugh at, couldn't you just push her over? Preferably into a puddle/big pile of leaves/something messy

Tom Arnold at his absolute worst. Amazing viewing.

Nicely subtle inclusion!

Cheers all there's some great suggestions here, many of which, like Naked Gun, Hot shots, etc., are films she loves. I've been browsing Amazon using your suggestions and have found some box sets and things, so have loads of ideas now. I just hope that what I buy is stupid enough to amuse her.

Human Centipede might not be the first thing we'll watch as a family on christmas day, so might give that a miss.

I thought of King Pin because I think the Farrelly brothers are childish enough to amuse my Mum. And I love them. I have a number of their movies I'll just take over at Christmas, so then if she hates them she won't feel bad!

Happy Gilmore is a cracker and I've debated that. I'm thinking for a wildcard I'll get Hot Fuzz. I'm also debating a dangerous one: Gavin and Stacey boxset.

She asked for films and I've seen but a few seconds of Gavin and stacey, but I think she might enjoy it, for no apparent reason. She likes Black Adder, Faulty Towers, Absolutely Fabulous, Vicar of Dibley and other English comedies, so think she might enjoy it, she just doesn't really watch telly, so why not?!
