Title: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: digby on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 17:55:28 This Club Red thing has pissed me off all along, but must admit the e-mail received from STFC recently was the last straw !! >:(
Entry to the Samsung 'win a contract' game at the CG is unrestricted for Club Red members, but subject to a limit for all other 'pleb' season ticket holders :badmood: As you can see by the low number of posts I make, I can't often be arsed to write much, but must admit I was moved to send the following reply to the e-mail I received ........... *********************************************************************************** I am very disappointed to see this as yet another example of Club Red members being given priority over the season ticket holders, who are the life blood of this club. Guaranteed entry to this trial, exclusive invite to meet the manager evening, the priority booking for the black shirt and the following scandal of trying to charge £10 extra for it - are all ways of showing how the club views its season ticket holders as second class supporters. Perhaps next season I won't bother paying around £250 to renew my season ticket, when all I have to do is pay £25 to become a member of the exclusive Club Red brigade. Then I can become an 'important supporter' who can sit at home every saturday and listen to the match on the radio, and most importantly, I can 'cream off' all the benefits of shop discounts, meet Danny etc. and generally lord it over the plebs who are merely season ticket holders. Yours dejectedly [Digby] PS - Please forward this to whoever is responsible for setting up and marketing this scheme ****************************************************************************** I know I'll probably get slated by some on here (summer of 69 ?) but just thought there must be quite a few others out there who share my feelings ! [Rant over !!] :hmmm: Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: STFC_Gazza on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 18:16:29 You should join red club 7 or whatever it is to get the benefits! Joking aside the Club Red and One Red schemes ARE GOOD IDEAS.
Basically The board from what I can see have stripped the season tickets to your basic "seat" for all matches and removed the perks like money off the club shop. To get those perks back, you pay a premium. If the season ticket was say 30 quid dearer at the start of the season (with the perks I may add), less people would have bought them and winged that the price was too hight for L1 football even with the benefits included. But YES the way it has been advertised is pretty poor and does look like it pisses over season ticket holders. If I worked at the club and the marketing side next season I would try to get the club to be clear and have a different season ticket structure and scrap the club red thing. FOR EXAMPLE THE CLUB COULD OFFER........ SEASON TICKET - £199.00 TOWN END, FOR ALL LEAGUE MATCHES, FREE RESERVE HOME GAMES SEASON TICKET PLUS - £229.00 TOWN END, FOR ALL LEAGUE MATCHES, MONEY OFF CLUB SHOP, FREE RESERVE HOME GAMES etc etc. That way its clear precise and fans cant complain if they dont get the perks. The club then also gets that extra £30.00 which you would get for club red. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: deltaincline on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 19:43:53 Good post, Diggers. I might even join your protest by sending a letter to the club as well. I get the impression that the club have become quite arrogant in recent times though. Almost untouchable, even, so It may well fall on deaf ears. We'll see.
Gazza, thanks for a half-heared attempt to explain the actions of the club over the club red fuck up, but it wont fucking wash. It's about time that pompous fucking CEO of ours pulled his finger out of his arse and explained exactly why season ticket holders - let alone all the other pay on the day fans - are now regarded as wankers who are good enough to pay for the season in advance, but dont deserve the simple courtesy of an explanation as to why previously enjoyed consessions have been withdrawn, apparently without notice. I've read some very elequent theories about stripping bare the perks of season tickets etc - all from fucking fans on here though! Where is the comment or explanation from the fucker in the hot seat? As you can tell, this bollocks really winds me up. I'm fed up with saying that Fitton and the board have done so fucking much, yet they let themselves down badly by allowing shit like this to fester. The drive for new season ticket holders was brilliant, and it's genuinely ace to see all the general PR and good feeling around the place (blah, fucking blah), despite not being brilliant on the pitch yet this season, but how the fuck can they try and pull such a stunt on season ticket holders and think they could get away with it? As it's now too late to reverse what happened, I'd advocate a fucking great big public apology, now, and the offer of free membership of Club Red to all existing season ticket holders fo the remainder of the season, Mr Watkins. Fail to either adequately explain it, or worse, do fuck all about it, will run the risk of a serious decline in season ticket sales next season - whatever we do on the field this season. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: red_army on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 19:55:26 I have a season ticket and have had one for a number of years - I also joined the 'Club Red' - My season ticket guarantess my seat at each home game, it gives me a priority for other games should I need to purchase a ticket (play'offs etc) - I choose to purchase a season ticket as it saves me money on each home game, based on the advance & matchday prices, its also saves me going to the clubshop each time I want to purchase a ticket !!
I'm sure that most of us have a season ticket for these reasons, because it suits us..... £25 for club red.. Also because it suited me to buy, I got a DVD which I would have purchased anyway, leaving the club red costing me £12..... ;D Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 19:58:45 So basically all is rosey until it affects you?
The perks of 'Club Red' initiative was explained in full from the start wasn't it? If you wanted the perks for this particular service then pay the £20 and you're in. Of course the club values the season ticket holders... This was a different incentive for people who can't get a season ticket, I see nothing wrong with it. Get a fucking grip. If you seriously think that people won't renew their season tickets because the Club Red benefits aren't available to ST holders then you're fucking delusional. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 20:08:25 How many people have Club Red that aren't Season Ticket holders? I'm genuinely interested, because I'd always presumed it'd be 90%+ and this was essentially just an additional benefits card for Season Ticket holders, not for occasional fans as you're making it out here.

I'm genuinely interested, because I'd always presumed it'd be 90%+ and this was essentially just an additional benefits card for Season Ticket holders, not for occasional fans as you're making it out here. I'm a club red member but not a ST holder, purely because paying each week suits me because I never know who I'm going with and I get in for almost free anyway. As much as the OP fancies a rant, Pullen summed up my opinion on it. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 20:32:54 As has been said the perks seem to be being offered to 'Club' members rather than ST holders, I see the point of the club it is another way of expanding the database and making a few extra quid etc, but the club need to remember that ST holders are the lifeblood of a football club and when they become P'd off and don't bother renewing key income goes down.
This season ST prices were pegged back and they removed the perk of club shop discount, fair enough but to then remove all other perks and only offer them to what seems an elite group is unfair, there are quite a few ST holders that got a ST expecting a good season, on the back of an poor - average season so far and coupling with the feeling of not being valued they may decide next season not to bother renewing. Hopefully Fitton & Co will see sense and sort this out. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! The problem is that if this is what the club are planning they should have made it clear before they started selling season tickets towards the end of last season. Though I think part of the problem is the club are just making it up as they go along. It is a fuck up and whilst it's unlikely to lose any season ticket holders it has pissed quite a lot of people of. Pissing off your most loyal customers is never a good idea for any business. Historically, ST holders got a 10% discount in the club shop and free entry to reserve games. To get those two particular benefits now you have to be a member of Club Red. Whilst I don't disagree with the idea of this 'members' club, it is a bit uber-fan for my liking. I'm happy to just have my season ticket and a guaranteed seat every week with priority to cup/play-off games. However, I did also enjoy the benefit of the discount in the club shop and the option to pop along to a reserve game if I wanted to. It does irk me slightly that those benefits were withdrawn and that I actually didn't realise until I'd purchased my season ticket and someone pointed it out to me some time later, but I'm not going to go apoplectic about it. Perhaps I saw the one and only article on the OS? Probably. There were some articles on the OS, but they were all some time after ST's went on sale. The one that pissed me off is the removal of the discount in the club shop. Whilst none of the ST literature said you'd get this discount, it didn't state you wouldn't which I reckon they should have done given it was an existing benefit. On it's own it won't put me off buying a ST next season, but add on a few other things (shit football, price increase, possible loss of preferential ticket allocations etc) and it might. It's a stupid thing for the club to fuck up on, they owe ST holders an apology and a promise it will be sorted for next season. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! The one that pissed me off is the removal of the discount in the club shop. Whilst none of the ST literature said you'd get this discount, it didn't state you wouldn't which I reckon they should have done given it was an existing benefit. This is my main gripe. All my 7 year old wanted for his birthday last month was Swindon Town related stuff. I went down to the club shop on behalf of various family members and purchased a goalkeepers kit, tracksuit and some other bits and bobs. Not a cheap venture I can assure you, but I received no discount as I'm only a season ticket holder. However If I was a club Red member I would have received a £5 voucher for every £50 spent (10% in other words). On the basis my family holds four season tickets between us, which obviously generates the club a fair bit of money, I find this extremely unfair. The article on the OS around benefits available to Season Ticket holders is dated 15 July, which is a good couple of months after ours were purchased! Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: RobertT on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 22:54:04 I may be off the mark here, but it would seem some people blindly fill in forms and hand over money without checking details. The season ticket offer this year, pegged at a low price, listed all the benefits you could get. The list may have been less than when season tickets were £300-£400, but it was clear. A second offer was availble, which listed some benefits.
If people are stupid enough to buy things without checking the details, tough bloody luck. My car insurance used to include Legal Cover and a free replacement car, I took a cheaper renewal and no longer have these - I checked the details and was happy to pay less and get less. If they put the price of a season ticket up by £40 lets say, and we got the discounts etc, I'd go back to match day purchasing of tickets. I know I'll offend people, but too many people expect to be spoon fed and too readily complain when their own perception of something turns out to be wrong. Each new season tickets purchase is exactly that, check the fucking offer on the table. I could see the problem if it was advertised falsely, but it wasn't. At one point in the past you got several rounds of cup games included, should we all complain because this years doesn't include that but we remember mnay years ago it did? Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 23:06:33 Whilst I think it's a bit annoying that people who shelled out £200-£300 on a season ticket don't get discount in the club shop and people who only paid £20 do (i'm talking about non ST holders here) it's not really a major concern for me. For me buying an ST was so that I had a ticket and reserved seat for every home game. I wasn't really fussed about the potential perks other than priority ticketing. I am however miffed that ST holders have to pay an extra £20 on top of the price of their ST to get these perks when someone who say only goes to 10 or so games a season can pay £20 and get the perks. They should be offered to ST holders with no extra cost IMO so I can see why people may be a bit pissed off.

Except the application form doesn't state there will be a separate charge for the membership scheme for ST holders, if anything it gives the impression that it's included with a ST. On the left it lists the membership scheme as a "key highlight" of the ST offering and on the right you could read it that it's a ST benefit as well. I wouldn't go as far as calling it false advertising but it wasn't clear at the time what they were doing. The fact that quite a few people are upset to one degree or another over it shows they did something wrong and blaming it on people's stupidity doesn't cut it. And a bit of perspective about the discount shit please, we're the 7th cheapest club in the football league for top-price season tickets. That's your discount whether you like it or not. Frankly that makes things a load better value than the £4.50 saved if I bought a shirt in the club shop and got a measly 10% discount. If money is really that tight then you don't need a football shirt. Honest. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! This arguement IMO doesn't really weigh up. The long and short of it is, as I said before, people get season tickets cheaper now and lose the perks so perhaps there should be a 2 tier system like below for next season. Your paying £30.00 (if not more depending when you got your 09/10 ticket) less this year than last if you got £199.00 seaon ticket so I dont see the issue really. People are bitching they got a £199.00 for a season ticket and dont get a discount in the club shop, jesus wept, on the flip side if the minimum season ticket was £279.00 and you got a discount in the club shop people would bitch saying that the season ticket was too expensive irrespective of any perks. People would quickly forget the club shop discount is the season ticket price went up and say the board are ripping us off, fuck that I aint going, I am going back to the townend as its cheaper etc etc etc. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Have people sending the ridiculous moany emails gone to collect their tickets to be told they're all gone? Doubtful. And a bit of perspective about the discount shit please, we're the 7th cheapest club in the football league for top-price season tickets... I picked up 2 tickets yesterday for the Samsung thing, which were officially tickets number 7 and 8. If 492 more people try to sort tickets out for that by closing time Tuesday, I will be very shocked indeed! Don't see it happening myself... Season tickets = super cheap! How we don't have 10,000 ST holders is beyond me. I don't think we even managed to sell out on the 1,000 tickets for £199 (£8.65 per game) deal did we? The club red is a new venture, and of course it's going to take the club a while to get the benefits right, to make it more attractive but I think they're slowly going along the right lines with the evenings with DannyW etc. As for the "one red" thing, think of it like a Tesco club card. Swindon want to build up their database of potential fans and this is by far the best way! Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: The_Plagiarist on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 09:49:12 Our season tickets are the 4th cheapest in the 92. Get a grip!
Pay the extra £20 if you want all these amazing discounts you can't live without. Season ticket holders aren't that fucking special, they're just people who pay up front because it works out cheaper, thats why I got one anyway. I don't expect the club to treat me as a superfan because I had £199 available in May. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 10:35:17 FOR EXAMPLE THE CLUB COULD OFFER........ Quite like that idea Gazza. However one good thing about the Club Red scheme is people like me who can't get to every game can still enjoy a few benefits, at a price. The main thing for me is ticket priority - I think it's a great idea that Club Red members can get priority (behind ST holders) for cup tickets.SEASON TICKET - £199.00 TOWN END, FOR ALL LEAGUE MATCHES, FREE RESERVE HOME GAMES SEASON TICKET PLUS - £229.00 TOWN END, FOR ALL LEAGUE MATCHES, MONEY OFF CLUB SHOP, FREE RESERVE HOME GAMES etc etc. So perhaps your idea could work, as well as having something for non-ST holders Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Batch on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 12:10:20 I agree the whole "we are season ticket holders, we should have everything" premis is wrong. But people will always complain when advantages they used to enjoy are no longer all inclusive regardless of whether the price has gone down. Fact of life.
Already said this but..assuming STs are cheap like this year: ST - Seat for every league game, priority booking for cup/playoff games. That's it. ST+club Red - adds club shop discount, priority pre-order of 3rd Kit, Evening with..,Free Reseve fixture entry, competitions, etc, etc. What is not accepatable is making it up as you go along: - e.g. Oooh, yeah, that Samsung shirt. We've just decided its Club Red only. Neither is treating people as mugs when that didn't work: - Actually one red can order, but its another £10 - OR Next season he third shirt is £50 but the Club Red members get a super dicount tham makes it £40 for them. -- Having said all that, I don't think the club intentionally tried to fleece anyone or put anyone out. They just got it wrong this time. They'll put it right next season. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 12:22:29 Club Red has been extremely poorly implemented. The benefits of joining were not clear and seeming made up as they went along. Even though I joined Club Red, I fully agree with this statement. It needed to be announced the same time as the ST prices in around March so everyone could make an informed decision, as they only announced the membership scheme in July. At the end of the day, my ST price came down my £20, and by joining CR, I have paid a total of an extra £5, got a DVD free, gave my £15 worth of ticket vouchers to an ex-work colleague of mine to come to watch games at the CG on the cheap, and I've got a £10 voucher to spend in the club shop after buying all three home shirts. Regarding the black shirts, I have previously said I thought the club were wrong to charge a 'premium', especially the £9.99 they were originally planning to charge on top. They cocked up but I don't think it was deliberate, they just hadn't thought it through. I think we need to cut the board / marketing people a bit of slack here. Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 12:37:54 It's their first season of doing it, and they'll learn from any mistakes they've done.
I was talking to a fellow fan watching the Crawley match at the club, and saying how pissed off they were with the CR/third shirt promotion. I said to him, in my opinion, they got it wrong, which they admitted by lowering the price. I also said to him that IMO they released the information about the membership scheme too late, and I thought they learnt more about the scheme talking to a couple of us who are CR members, than they've ever read from the club. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: herthab on Thursday, December 2, 2010, 12:45:35 I'm a season ticket holder, so I'm obviously superior to those that aren't.
The cheap prices, that guarantee me a seat at every home league game and priority booking for all others, is what I bought it for. I certainly didn't buy it to meet the players at events, or get discount off tat from the shop and if that's what I did want I'd buy the Club Red membership. Combined they are cheaper than most L1 season ticket prices. Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Title: Re: VIP supporters club...sorry, I mean 'Club Red' !! Post by: flammableBen on Friday, December 3, 2010, 23:40:28 They started selling really well so they ended up charging £20 on top of the team red membership.

Originally 400 limited edition, but they've kept quiet since that. I assume they worked out they'd make more £££ bby lowering the price and selling more. None of our shirts are "custom" for STFC though really. You can buy them all without sponsorship for your sat/sun league squad if you really wanted... home: http://www.clublinefootball.com/products/view/46873 away: http://www.teamsport90.com/viewdetails.asp?cat=1&scat=118&search4=&page=&pId=1819 third: http://www.clublinefootball.com/adidas_condivo_jersey_black I love mine... :smugfu: |
