Title: Iphone to car stereo Post by: nochee on Sunday, November 28, 2010, 23:20:30 Just bought my new car and am very happy with. Thing is the stereo does not have an Aux in option so i cant play my iphone through the stereo. As i have a monster of a drive coming up i need a good solution.
Any ideas? Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, November 28, 2010, 23:23:02 An fm transmitter would be the cheap and easy option. Just make sure it isn't illegal in the country you're in

Just make sure it isn't illegal in the country you're in Thanks. Would i constantly be adjusting the frequency with this though? I have a history crashing cars so its best that im not trying to find a signal. Or is it pretty easy? Just found a belkin transmitter in Argos for £20 so that would be great if it does the job Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, November 28, 2010, 23:45:57 As far as I know, you set the frequency on the transmitter, set the frequency on the radio, then you're sorted.
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: nochee on Sunday, November 28, 2010, 23:57:52 The Belkin transmittor is getting some very mixed reviews. I have a 14 hour drive ahead of me tuesday and i dont really fancy listening to France/Belgium/Germany FM. I was all set up with an audiobook until i realised the ipod charger in the car was not iphone adaptable.
Might just find a cheap aux in head unit Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 29, 2010, 00:30:51 Does the car have bluetooth? You should be able to stream the music over bluetooth if it does. The results shouldn't be too bad.
The best solution I have found (from experience) is a dedicated head unit which supports ipod via usb/special cable. Another alternative cheap solution is to buy an adapter which connects to the cd changer socket, but this is going to depend on whether your head unit has this. Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: jonny72 on Monday, November 29, 2010, 00:59:43 I've never had any luck with FM transmitters and I've tried a few - never managed to get a decent signal tuned in.
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 29, 2010, 01:29:15 Can the existing head unit play mp3s (or similar) on a cd? If so that would give you 200-250 songs per cd and be an incredibly cheap solution.
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, November 29, 2010, 09:02:24 If the stereo has a cassette player, you could just buy an adapter for that and they're only a couple of quid. Assuming you can still buy them of course.
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Arriba on Monday, November 29, 2010, 09:25:55 i have an fm adaptor that works pretty well.just get a cheapy one from e-bay or amazon.only costs a few quid...
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: nochee on Monday, November 29, 2010, 09:31:07 Sadly not I'm afraid. It's a cd player only, no special extras.
Along with the insurance price shock and the need for winter tyres this car is getting expensive. Hope j can find a cheap head unit today. Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: magicroundabout on Monday, November 29, 2010, 10:12:26 i've got a cheap crappy one which works perfectly.
only cost £5 Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, November 29, 2010, 10:12:47 http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-ida-x001_p-26323.htm
I have this in mine which is like having an Ipod in the car. Notice it is discontinued now though. Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: magicroundabout on Monday, November 29, 2010, 10:32:59 i think he's looking at spending £10 not £200 BOB
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 29, 2010, 13:39:46 I dunno what I find more baffling, the fact the ipod is the be all and end all for one journey or a charging lead would somehow magically make a bog standard cd player play the ipod :D
Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: Arriba on Monday, November 29, 2010, 13:45:12 plenty on here for various prices.

It also displays the artist/track name on your radio through RDS... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/13562534/Belkin-TuneCast-Auto-Live-FM-Transmitter-With-ClearScan-Live-For-Apple-iPhone/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518%7Ccat:13562534%7Cprd:13562534 Title: Re: Iphone to car stereo Post by: nochee on Monday, November 29, 2010, 16:02:40 I dunno what I find more baffling, the fact the ipod is the be all and end all for one journey or a charging lead would somehow magically make a bog standard cd player play the ipod :D Have you ever tried a 14 hour non stop drive? You need entertainment, trust me. And like i said before i dont fancy the local late night live in German. I couldnt put up with the scorpions wind of change all night either. Its all sorted now anyhow. I have transmitter thingy. Hopefully, it works. |
