Just bought my new car and am very happy with. Thing is the stereo does not have an Aux in option so i cant play my iphone through the stereo. As i have a monster of a drive coming up i need a good solution.

Any ideas?

An fm transmitter would be the cheap and easy option. Just make sure it isn't illegal in the country you're in

Would i constantly be adjusting the frequency with this though? I have a history crashing cars so its best that im not trying to find a signal. Or is it pretty easy?

Just found a belkin transmitter in Argos for £20 so that would be great if it does the job

As far as I know, you set the frequency on the transmitter, set the frequency on the radio, then you're sorted.

The Belkin transmittor is getting some very mixed reviews. I have a 14 hour drive ahead of me tuesday and i dont really fancy listening to France/Belgium/Germany FM. I was all set up with an audiobook until i realised the ipod charger in the car was not iphone adaptable.

Does the car have bluetooth? You should be able to stream the music over bluetooth if it does. The results shouldn't be too bad.

The best solution I have found (from experience) is a dedicated head unit which supports ipod via usb/special cable.

Another alternative cheap solution is to buy an adapter which connects to the cd changer socket, but this is going to depend on whether your head unit has this.

I've never had any luck with FM transmitters and I've tried a few - never managed to get a decent signal tuned in.

Can the existing head unit play mp3s (or similar) on a cd? If so that would give you 200-250 songs per cd and be an incredibly cheap solution.

If the stereo has a cassette player, you could just buy an adapter for that and they're only a couple of quid. Assuming you can still buy them of course.

i have an fm adaptor that works pretty well.just get a cheapy one from e-bay or amazon.only costs a few quid...

Sadly not I'm afraid. It's a cd player only, no special extras.

Along with the insurance price shock and the need for winter tyres this car is getting expensive. Hope j can find a cheap head unit today.

I have this in mine which is like having an Ipod in the car.

Notice it is discontinued now though.

I dunno what I find more baffling, the fact the ipod is the be all and end all for one journey or a charging lead would somehow magically make a bog standard cd player play the ipod :D

I bought this one on ebay and am very chuffed with it - comes with a remote (so you can change frequency as well as changing tracks) and fits directly into the cigar lighter, so no trailing wires unlike the Belkin.

This is the one I use... automatically finds the best frequency in the area and has a boost setting which even works on my car with no ariel!  

It also displays the artist/track name on your radio through RDS...

Have you ever tried a 14 hour non stop drive? You need entertainment, trust me. And like i said before i dont fancy the local late night live in German. I couldnt put up with the scorpions wind of change all night either.

Its all sorted now anyhow. I have transmitter thingy. Hopefully, it works.
