Electficiation will take place to Didcot and Oxford within 6 years but NOT to Swindon , Bristol or Wales, for local services so Swindon will be stuck with 30 year old trains for the foreseeable future then? What's basically happening is the southeast bit up to Oxford and Newbury needs electrification because they will be getting the old electric trains from the thameslink area. The thameslink area will be getting a large amount of the new carriages that are being promised. Wales and the West electrification is basically on hold until they've decided what type of train will replace the HST. |
