Title: Deadline Deals
Post by: ronnie21 on Thursday, November 25, 2010, 10:00:53
Reading the Torquay/Benyon thread, it would appear that today is deadline day on loan deals until January 1st. Are we expecting any movement in or out?

Southampton lining up a bid as well, that said nothing we dont know

Mind ya if Austin was to go to Saints wouldnt mind getting Barnard or Lambert back this way, not that any of them are anywhere near the standard of Austin.

£550k for a kid who been scoring for about 5 mins.

If thats the market value then Charlie is worth £5m.

Exactly my point.

1 goal in 52 games prior to this season

Also, just been having a look around at Championship squads for CBs... Palace's Adam Barrett (ex Southend captain) would be a top signing for us.

Worryingly the more I look around the more likely it is that Austin is going, but still can't see it myself.

There's a lot of smoke for there to be no fire isn't there.

Was told a few weeks ago he "wanted out", but while I don't doubt somebody was told this as second hand information I laughed it off as ambition. Hope there isn't more to it now! Also he alegedly had a bit of a training ground bust up with JPM recently too.

But its all speculation. Grapevine stuff and blatently no more than fan tittle tattle. What's that? Lalalalalalal I can't hear you.

One things for sure. No way will he be going anywhere without replacement. Pericard an Dossevi up front? I'll dig out the division 4 away guide again.

Agreed, it's problematic to loan him out now. Why would they loan him if they hadn't agreed a fee already? And what if the other clubs then backed out? Or worse (or better depending on your pov!), what if he did well and another club came in with a higher offer?

Charlie'll still be playing for "The Town" for a few more months at the very very least I suspect...  :hmmm:

Good to know.

If that's right I wonder who is bullshitting then, frient of friend, or person who told friend of friend - someone that should know whether it happened or not (no not JPM or Charlie)......

Either way I bet there are training ground spats evet other day when the team isn't winning.

Not at all, that would be the decision to spend £400k on a world cup winning central defender and then leaving him to rot in the reserves to avoid paying an appearances based payment on him. Doing this despite being desperate for a centre half in the team, to the extent that you end up playing a centre forward at the back in one of the biggest games of the season (Villa in the 5th round of the FA cup, 16.5k at the County Ground and live on TV).

And of course in doing this completely destroying the players market value and having to eventually let him leave on a free.

Fuck our board were useless cunts in the past.......... Sorry Nestor, the fans loved you.

To be fair it was only 2-1 the villa game wasnt it?
Froggatt scored a screamer iirc.

And the press box got pelted with coins

I confess I remember very little of the game as I'd gone to Bristol the day before, intending to come back that afternoon, met a girl and ended up staying over, and didn't have my anti-convulsants with me.

I came around in the medical room at half time having had a seizure and bounced down the Stratton Bank on my head. I think I caught half of the second half from my sofa at home. Mitchell (the makeshift centre half) scored didn't he?

Another point, Adi Viveash was overlooked for a starting place in that game in favour of playing Mitchell at the back. That must have done wonders for his confidence.

Unless someone makes a stupid offer and we have a ready made replacement lined up then I cannot see Charlie being allowed to leave before January, the interested clubs would just be told to come back in Jan

I'm more concerned at us not getting a centre half in - and a decent partner for Charlie

Title: Re: Deadline Deals

Surely someone can't make any offer until January. That's the fucking point of a transfer window isn't it?

The idea that we'd let him go out on loan, with no chance ofg getting in a replacement until January, especially to a League One rival is just fucking laughable

The idea is that a club takes the player on loan but an agreement is made with a fee agreed that the transfer will become permanent on Jan 2, that way they bolster their squad now instead of waiting

My point was that the idea that we'd go for a deal like that, "here have our player, give us some cash sometime in the future" is bollocks.

You can't contractually obligate the other party to go through with the permanent transfer and stick to the price FFS. There's no way Fitton would go for a deal like that.

And what we did with Revell no? I'm sure, after us sending Revell back, there must be a way to renege as Lumps hints at. You can in Football Manager and everyone knows that's exactly like real life.

Rowan Vine to Brentford and Neil Trotman to Oldham, (another) two signings I would have been happy with but, alas, we're getting nothing by the look of it.

Hasn't Rowan Vine been gash for years? I'd be quite annoyed if we signed Trotman as Wikipedia says he's a young central defender. We have good young centre backs, we need an old head.

But you can't sign a contract for a permanent deal outside the transfer window. That's the point of it. You can loan a player but you can't tie it to a permanent deal in January. Otherwise, as half the transfers that take place are on credit anyway, the transfer window would be completely meaningless.

It is a surprise that Wilson knows we need these players, and a central defender urgently but they don't seem to appear yet you hear of other clubs signing players that would do us, so they must be available.

Is Fitton tightening the purse strings you wonder

I am baffled that it looks like no-one is going to come in today, Why does this seem to happen almost everytime the window shuts? Other clubs are signing players and we're not, I thought we would have brought in at least a centre back.

If it is Fitton tightening the purse strings then it could cost us because we won't improve at the back until we have a good leader there that's obvious.

However if Fitton isn't tightening the purse strings then i think Wilson deserves to be hammered for not bringing anyone in.

Good to see that Millwall have spent their "Charlie Austin money" on a player who's a had a good month (he went 9 games without scoring this season).

A future fee of £550,000 on a kid who's scored only 10 career goals seems like a bit of a punt to me.

you can rule Millwall out

http://www.bournemouth.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=222595

Quote
KENNY Jackett has denied today’s signing of Josh McQuoid signals the end of Millwall’s interest in Swindon striker Charlie Austin.

The Lions today signed the Northern Ireland international striker on an emergency loan deal and the move is set to be made permanent in January, with Millwall reportedly having agreed to pay AFC Bournemouth more than half a million pounds.

Jackett had two bids rejected by the Cherries earlier in the week but it was a case of third time lucky as he finally got his man.

But despite the latest striking addition, the manager told News Shopper it didn’t mean the Lions had given up hope of rekindling their interest in long-term target Austin when asked.

He said: “I wouldn’t say so because we’ve looked at a number of players.

“We are pleased to add Josh but will we look to keep adding in the future?

“Of course we are always looking and looking to improve if we can.
