 The big wedge thing is a concert hall.....simple innit.....Ricoh pay up 10 mill to put their name to this Council owned facility

  The Coventry Councillors recognise the opportunity, to get a top grade community sports facility and much needed concert hall all in one go.

 Originally the club were doing it themselves but, when they had problems with the old chairman....the Counicil worked to see a smaller scale project come to fruition, (its not quite going to be finished for season's start)

That looks pretty damm good, wish Swindon Council would do the same.

Norwich have swapped the opening day fixture to Carrow Road as the Football League didn't want to let Coventry swap even though it won't be quite finished then.

With companies like nationwide and honda in swindon you would have through someone would be interested in getting some sponsorship.... :|

I thought after local government was emasculated by Thatcher in the 80's that it was actually illegal for Councils to do things that may benefit the community rather than business....especially on the grand scale.

 So for example in the 70's for better or worse the Council could build the Brunel Centre, whereas after ratecapping it became impossible....but it now seems several counils like Coventry Hull and Swansea.....have got involved in new ground projects in a big way.

Swindon will never get a stadium like that... if they did, the council will insist on putting roundabouts on the centre circle,

Well if the local goverment sell off the land they are looking at selling off they might be able to help us.Either that or it will be sucked into training courses for Tory councillers :x

The car park actually is an ice rink as well, it's very multi purpose.

Do we really need a CG extension?  A 22000 seater stadium would look ridiculous with only 4000-6000 people

its all about providing facilities that make money while the club aren't playing. for instance a gym is used 52 weeks a year, it doesn't matter if the club are home or away its still making money, we need to be in a position where if a game is postponed we can still pay our players unlike this season when the bristol game was moved....

Possibly, but a revamp of the stadium should increase the profile of the club within the community hopefully leading to a few more turning up.

Definately, alot of people would turn up just for a look.  What seems to have happened in quite a few cases as well is that the developments give the club a lift, meaning the team aren't playing too badly when the new faces turn up, then hopefully they stick around.

A new stadium certainly worked for Hull.  They were getting gates of 4000 and now they are getting 16000-23000

If the capacity is upped you should always go to atleast 22000 if poss as thi will qualify you for b rated internationals. Ladies/U21's etc.

I'm going to watch Bedford play Peterborough in a friendly this afternoon, Barry Fry lives in Bedford and managed them in the 70's so with the connections they come down quite often.
I saw Bobby Barnes play in a friendly there in 93.

Anyway, it is also to officially open the new 500k clubhouse, also a new stand will shortly commence being built. If they can do this (Southern Premier League level) and make lots of money from renting it out which is how small clubs keep going then hopefully Swindon can eventually revamp the CG to get more income, it's the only way forward.

Definitely. We need the money that comes from owning a football ground desperately. I just wish we could have it as easy as Hull and others have done!
