I'm walking up this fucker on the 23rd October. Anyone on here done it before who could let me know what i can expect?

It's a bit hilly.  Definitely bring a pair of walking boots.

Have done Snowdon, Ska Fell and Ben Nevis.

I tell you what you can expect, a fucking cafe and visitor centre at the top, full of the blue rinse brigade who had come up on the cog wheel railway, or whatever it is. Not exactly the moment of peace and tranquility at the top I was hoping for.

However, to get there or back there is this really long rocky ridge you walk along, with pretty steep slopes both sides. Its a little hairy but quite fun. Also involves a little very basic rock climbing.
Apart from that, lots of steadiliy inclining paths!

I'd take a coat aswell. May get a bit cold and wet.

I did it about a month ago in an old pair of trainers, it was wet and quite slippery at times so I'd get some boots if I were you. Also a waterproof/warm coat as it gets cold, windy and wet near the top as you are basically in the clouds.

It's 4.5 miles up and 4.5 miles back down again if you take the basic walking route that I did

Firstly.. aparently you're not supposed to call it 'Mount Snowdon'.. just 'Snowdon'.. don't ask me why.

We did it last month. There are plenty of routes to the top and you can choose the best according to your experience. Crib Goch/Snowdon/Y Lliwedd being the most difficult. Only one of us had any serious walking experience so we went up via the PYG track and came back down via the miner's track. Pen-y-pass car park gets fairly busy so get there early if you're going via any of the above routes.

You must always eat a hard boiled egg at the top of a big hill.  It's walker's law.

I thought this was going to be something about Lisa Snowdon.

 Don't expect it to yourself, and be prepared, especially late October. Having said that it's easy enough if you can see where you're going.

 Glyder Fawr, has just been elevated by the OS to the 1000m mark....exciting times.

I most certainly mount Snowden she's looking cracking in that M&S campaign.

I went up Pen y Fan on a school trip to the Breacon Beacons in about 1985. I survived.

After Snowden you need to try a couple of Munro's in Scotland great

We did that too, although it was 1978/79 when we went.

It was December and was Snowing really hard.
We were supposed to do two other peaks but were not allowed too because of the snow

Went to Pencelli with the school................loved it.

Me too, great time.

That's where we went.

Wasn't it owned/run by Wiltshire schools or something.

We went from John Bentley & the other half from Southbroom.

Did you do the pot holing, I particularly remember the Mars Bar Squeeze :)

Was the Mars Bar squeeze the same as the Letter Box I remember? Wasn't there some bloke with huge finger nails running Pencelli?

We went with Hardenhuish as well.  Good laugh. 

Yeah, the guy that ran it had massive fingernails and a huge barrel chest if I remember rightly.

The building was called 'plas Pencelli' and is still owned by Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire schools still go there.

Remember the little packed lunch....raisins cheese etc.
Always had a massive urn of tea brewing when we got back from walking or climbing and clearly remember that they used to use an old fashioned gong to call us for dinner.
Remember also the little cellar ware coke and sweets could be baught in the evening.
