Happy with that. Thought he looked a good player but never really got a run in the side when he was here last season.

Hopefully means Ball can now be used as a striker as well, as he clearly wasn't happy/good playing out wide.

He didn't want to be here IIRC previously.

Heres hoping hes willing to put in a bit of effort if given a chance.

He didn't want to be here IIRC previously.

Thought it was more a case of him preferring to be playing in the Championship rather than League One, which is fair enough. Though it probably didn't help him not getting a start here. Wilson always seems to get him man though, wonder if we'll be signing him permanently in January.

Happy with that, we've looked unbalanced with a right footer on the left wing, so he should certainly get his chance.

Assume it must be a loan with a view to sale in Jan. Over the summer they were talking about him as the kind of young player they need to build a team round and it's not like they're overflowing with players since then.

Simalar to Nouble in the sense he probably didn't understand why he was sat on the bench at a prem club then loaned out to sit on a league 1 bench. Good player imo

I too think this shows potential to be a good loan for us, might enable us to use the left wing a little more now again? As for reports of him previously "snubbing Town", they were blown out of proportion by the more narrow minded Swindon fans. The actual quote at the time, when interviewed by a local Portsmouth paper, was...

'I want to play for Pompey – so until the manager comes to me and says he doesn't want me here any more then I will be here. For me, there is nowhere else I would rather be than here'

I'd love for any town player to say that, especially if he had been a lifelong Swindon Town fan, so respect the lad for that at least!

Lets give him a chance and see if he does well... COYR!!  :soapy tit wank:

I didn't see much of him last time, but what I did see he showed glimpses of a very good player.
His goalscoring record is good also for a winger.
He may prove to have the impact that Danny Ward had for us last season, who knows?

How can you say you weren't very impressed when he hardly played? Given a decent run, I think he'll be a good player for us.

My opinion of him in the admittedly limited appearances I saw him make were not of a standard I would have thought they would have been for a man of his pedigree. I understand though that given an extended spell in the starting 11 performances may improve, and I will lend all my support to the player in question willing him to do so.

Better?

Anyone is better than we have on left wing at the moment. Thus this is a good signing.

I liked his confidence and touch when he played last season, also seemed pretty pacey.

Yup, agree with that.

Will be good to have a 4-4-2 option again. I know AOB plays in the same position, but he has dodgy hamstrings..

Meh

Am i the only one who didnt think he was any good?

He did only play about 107 minutes for us over 4 games

65 of those coming against Stockport, where he was crap and basically admitted so on the radio afterwards. Think it had been about 2 months since he'd last played for Notts County and he'd been injured as well.

Clean slate and all that...

From wht little I saw of him, he was exactly what I expected - a bit good, a bit crap. He's only a young lad learning his trade so I'm more than willing to cut him some slack. He's not going to be the magic wand that revitalises our season - Austin coming back, may be.

Good signing IMO.  Was one of the better Pompey players in pre season and their first few matches and the pompey fans were raving about him saying that they should build their team around him for the future.

Nothing can be judged on his previous stint here.  All he has to do is show a bit of interest and positional knowledge and he will already be better than O'Brien.

We really should be thinking of signing a right sided defender instead of wingers

Dear Swindon Fans,

I am writing on behalf of a Portsmouth FC blog called the Pompey Pages. As of this morning, our midfielder Matt Ritchie joined Swindon Town on a month-long loan contract.

I am looking to run a feature whilst Ritchie plays for Swindon called The Ritchie Report, and what I'm looking for is a Swindon fan regularly attending Swindon home and away matches, just to send a quick review on how Matt Ritchie played during this match.

You don't have to necessarily be a great writer, as I can edit it, but just 100 or 200 words on how Ritchie has played each match would be brilliant.

If you fancy doing it, then please email me at [email protected]

Thanks and all the best for the season!

Ben Hardinge
The Pompey Pages

I think he lost a bit of heart last season when he realised he was up against Danny Ward. One of the best loan players weve ever had at the County Ground.

It was a battle he was never going to win. But we need wingers now and its only fair to judge him after he has had a decent run out in 3 or 4 games.

Hopefully this will mean a change back to 4-4-2 - McGovern-Douglas-Ferry/Prutton-Ritchie.

What's happened since pre-season then? Who's he lost his place in the starting line up to?

Pleased enough. Let's be honest we needed an option out on the left and he gives us that. As said above maybe now we can look at playing a flat 4-4-2 again? Ball probably wants to play as a striker so now he can. Gives us more options. I think we're now only a CB and possibly a RB away from what we need to have the strengh in depth and a competitive squad.

Being very very selfish, I hope we do get him on a free but I wouldn't wish liquidation on any set of supporters.

Technically he's still an 'asset' for the liquidator to sell but I unless he still keeps being paid by Pompey, he will become a free agent.

If they are released, will the players actually be able to sign for another club before January? Don't the rules say free agents can only sign out of the window if they were free agents when the window closed, or is there special dispensation when a club folds?

Title: Re: Matt Ritchie back on Loan

Pointless speculating, not going to happen. Do you not remember how many times they wheeled out Andronikou to say we were going to go bust if we didn't shut up/get sold down the river to the dodgy Portugeezers/do whatever the whim of the day was? Same old, same old, just firming up Chainrai as the only alternative and providing a nice pantomime villain in Gaydamak that Chainrai can "save" them from so they'll all know to be terribly grateful and say nowt when he carries on where he left off in wrecking the club. Even bigger load of bollocks than the Rooney pantomime

Sorry. In which case, FWIW I was under the impression that free agents were the only players who *could* sign outside the window. Either way, got to increase our chances of making the deal permanent in January, you'd hope
