Title: Tuesday's International Football
Post by: Langers on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 17:16:53
I can see England dropping points tonight.

And Argentina V Spain (ITV4 9.00) should be a decent game.

I don't think we'll either. I'm going to find a stream to watch it on (fucking Sky!!!!) but might end up watching that Spain game. Even though that will probably be a pants friendly game where players do their best to not get injured as opposed to entertain and try and win.

Good partnership with Jagielka whilst at Everton so could be on to a winner.  Unless of course Lescott plays like his usual self...

Oh yes. There really is no need for him in the set-up... not with A. Johnson, Milner, Lennon, Walcott all able to play his position. I'd like to think that layoff for Bent was his last 'contribution' in International football.

It's nice to see a slightly different, refreshing team.
The absence of Lampard is a blessing as the midfield currently has more shape without him.

Milner and Johnson are fucking superb.
Joe Hart made a few silly errors tonight, but I like the idea of him being the regular 1st choice keeper.

The difference was though that Hart's silly mishaps didn't lead to any goals. And he kept composed throughout despite them.

Only downside tonight is milner getting suspended. Which will no doubt se Gerrard back out wide and lampard back in.

Good performance.

I would leave lampard out to keep gerrard in centre mid. He's one of our best players and its his best position. we look a better team with him there.

I didn't get to see any of the game tonight but it's good the new players doing so well. It shows you don't need the star players (and if anything are worse when they play) and that we are still developing talent in England, making a mockery of those who reckon youth development is fucked here.

Only problem of course is that Capello will drop them all once the star players are fit again. Which is bollocks.

Next time round then Lampard, Terry & Ferdinand are fit he will put them straight back in the team and mess with the formation that has done so well the last 2 games, you can't put Rooney in the hole and have Gerrard running the midfield and the wide players pushing high up the pitch if you have Lampard and the slowness of Terry & Ferdinand in the team - I think it has shown that Terry and in paticular Lampard are not mainstays of the team that Capello beleives.

I refuse to watch England at the min after that shit in the Summer, Glad to hear Milner and Johnson seem promising however I flipped between the Scotland and Ireland matches last night. With Ferdinand, Terry coming back, Crapello will be back to kissing the ass of his favourites and drop players who from most reports have managed to do their job well. Rio and Terry should be on the bench at best if we are to believe his "youth movement", which was clearly forced on him by the FA because the country wanted it and the FA couldnt afford to sack Crapello.

Personally I enjoyed watching the England game last night and was very impressed with the football that we played.  I am glad that we now seem to have our goalkeeper sorted in Joe Hart which seemed to be a major problem in the World Cup because quite frankly David James is past it.  It will also be very interesting to see if/how the likes of Ferdinand, Terry and Lampard will fit into the next England squad/team because over the past two games we have done very well.  The only change I would make is probably bring in Terry to play alongside Jagielka at the back.  Gerrard has played much better in his role without Lampard, breaking forward and leaving Barry to do the dirty work.  Adam Johnson looks a real handy player and I think James Milner owes everything to Andy King.

It was also very good to see a Devizes St George's flag at the ground (although it had obviously been tarred with 'Wolves' on it).  Oh, Jamie Redknapp is a complete and utter knobjockey.

I won't be happy about England football until we do well at Euro 2012. We did well in qualifying for the world cup then fucked it up at the tournament itself so tbh no matter how well we do in qualifying for the Euros it won't make up for what happened at the world cup.

So long as we qualify the only matches I really care about in these qualifying games are the ones against Wales as they're derbys and it's rare for us to play them, especially both home and away.

I wish we had a new manager.

You always get that up here so just ignore it.  To say that the Tartan Army soon stopped laughing last night would be the understatement of the year.  I don't know what made me laugh more.  The degree of celebration after beating a country whose population is about the size of Penhill's or the manager talking about it as being a "great night".

Agree with this except maybe the Andy King bit.

England played well, Capello picked the right team and formation (and against Bulgaria) so fair play to him. Hope he carries on with the same (more or less) team.

As for not giving a shit until we do well that's pretty crap really ! As with the Town I'll support England through thick and thin, even if it is almost always thin, and therefore give credit if and when it's due and not just wait until they finally win something.

I was pissed off about the World Cup, the same as everyone else.
But that's history now, and I know it's only two qualifiers against mediocre teams but my enthusiasm for England is coming back, I think because of the change in personnel more than anything, these young'uns have breathed fresh air into the team and I hope they keep their place.

Roll on Euro 2012 :)

You've hit the nail on the head there Ginginho.  We look good in qualifying from easy groups and then get found out against the decent teams at the tournaments.  I genuinely think we could do with getting a tough group to qualify from as then we would face some genuinely tough games before we get to the real competition.

Saying all that I'm happy with how we're playing, and who's playing, but will be interesting to see how Capello copes with Milner being suspended and some of the old regulars returning to fitness.  Genuinely don't know how it will play out.  I'd assume Ferdinand will walk straight back in as he's captain but that's if he's match fit.  Lampard and Terry, I'm not so sure about.  The midfield is looking far more balanced so I'd replace Milner with Johnson and stick with what we've got.  Reckon Terry could have a few games on the bench after his Summer spat.

I kind of see what you mean but all I was saying was my level of interest in England is that I only properly follow them when they're in tournaments and I won't be happy about them again until they do well in the next one. That might be harsh but it's the way I feel at the moment.

I think it's a little naive to expect anything less, to be fair.  Imagine Oxford were a Championship or lower end Prem side, and then imagine the next team to play us at the County Ground ran out wearing yellow & blue and a picture of an Ox on their shirts.  I'll hazard a guess that they would get booed.

I'm in Scotland at the moment, and the people I've spoken to are almost embarrassed to have won.  Still - they've given themselves a lifeline.  Scotland's games vs the Czech Republic are key.

Just got back. Great atmosphere in Basel city centre, some of the swiss were joining in too.

Adam Johnson looks great, hopefully he will become a regular. Before the game I thought it would be our toughest test, now either Montenegro or Wales away will be, the Swiss weren't really up to much other than their wonder strike.

As for the debate, I'll always support England, but don't really give a crap about most of the players.
