I thought the film was alright. Don't really know anything about this to be quite honest though.

The film disappointed me. Nowhere near as good as his earlier efforts Dead Mans Shoes and A Room for Romeo Brass.

And the less said about his latest one, Somers Town, the better.

Because I thought it might have had clips of John Barnes playing, you facking muppet.

I loved it.  Thought that the bit where Shaun had been walloped and exclaimed "I'm f8cking dying here" was very (perhaps unintentionally) funny.  soapy tit wank is indeed an absolute babe.

It was good,but im not sure why its considered more worthy than Skins though.

Just watching it on +1 now, so will abstain from reading the TEF for an hour.

Not been massively impressed with the first two episodes but tonight was incredible. As Mex said, harrowing, disturbing and compelling, and funny too.

Got them all recorded, not watched any of them yet. I think I'll be having a big catch-up fest at the weekend so I'll join in the general mood of harrowedness then.

It'd better be bloody harrowing after all this build up. If I don't end up shell shocked/on the verge of tears I'll not be chuffed

It might not be as good as the film but for me it's one of the best things I've seen on TV for a while.

I don't understand how Combo found Sean's house when it was mentioned a few minutes earlier that they'd moved.

People have said that they weren't too bothered about the first two episodes, and in a way I agree that the pacing is maybe slightly off, especially with two major events happening at the end of the penultimate episode tonight, although one of them has had a lot of build up and is obviously the main story line.

In general though I think that it's made the transition from film to telly quite well, there's been enough stuff going on during the re-introduction of the characters in episodes one or two to stop it being just build up. It still has the same feel as the film, from what I remember anyway.

Yeah, I was wondering that, it seemed like a deliberate set up more than a mistake though, I'm sure it will be bought up.

I do agree that the first two episodes were a bit pedestrian and meandering but given the time elapsed since the film, it needed that to set things up properly. I like the fact it's not just a straight continuation of the film or even continues with the theme of the film, it gives it something else and the focus is split more between characters, the sub-plot with Meggy & Dogtanian is great.

Indeed.  The term Console would have arrived thanks to Nintendo and Super Mario Bros finding it's way into the Uk along with the little upstart Sega.  C64 was out and about with the ZX Spectrum and required you waiting an eternity for the tape to load up and then only with about a 50% success rate as it would crash about 5 clicks from the end on the counter.  Amstrad had some horific green screen alternative - why?

I've got to say I've found it all a little slow in comparison to the film, but I suppose that should be expected given it's a series.  Just expected it to be a bit more up and at you sooner.

Not sure when the term console was first used, but the NES and Master System weren't the first of their type in the UK. The Atari 2600 was popular here and there were various fixed game systems (mainly Pong derivatives) before that as well.

I remember friends having c64s and spectrums but don't remember console being used until the nes and master system starting hitting off.

I found that really uncomfortable to watch...

Best one yet though - hope Shane Meadows goes ahead with the '91 version.

He must have asked someone who knew him. Or could have looked him up in the phone book. They might mention it next episode.

it was a very dark episode...was gonna give up watching it after a poor episode last week but think i'll carry on now.

Dont mean to sound dramatic but when i was in care there was a girl in there whos dad abused her....so things like this on TV bring back bad memories...that make me angry...which is stupid because i am an adult now..............but ware all different i spose

Not sure that I was that keen on the pacing over 4 episodes, but still a brilliant mini-series, exceptional towards the end. I'm unsure on the ending point, but it was moving on to another story, and I think it might have detracted from it if they showed much more than necessary.

I just met one of the blokes from This Is England 86 at a pub in Bristol. The bloke who gets beaten up by his dad. He was so cool. Really down to earth and friendly.  :D
