Title: Tax Post by: tans on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 18:12:52 I better not be one of the people that get a letter saying I underpaid.
Those cunts fucked up, why should we be penalized. They should write it off as their mistake. Title: Re: Tax Post by: Arriba on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 18:15:25 i talk to people who are self employed and pay very little tax or national insurance.
they get away with it whilst i'm docked around £800 a month to the fucking government Title: Re: Tax Post by: leefer on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 18:24:55 i talk to people who are self employed and pay very little tax or national insurance. they get away with it whilst i'm docked around £800 a month to the fucking government And thats before Council Tax. Title: Re: Tax Post by: tans on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 18:26:17 And up to 12m of taxpayers money is to be used for a visit by the pope.
The pope for fuck sake! In the notw today there was a family on 95k a year benefits. Scrounging cunts Title: Re: Tax Post by: pumbaa on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 19:03:52 i talk to people who are self employed and pay very little tax or national insurance. This is what the new coalition government should be taking a very close look at. There are too many loopholes in the tax system that those who 'have' exploit at will. I'm not for a minute suggesting all self-employed people flout the system, but a number do. Title: Re: Tax Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 20:38:30 Self employed people do pay less NI, but they get less entitlement to benefits as a result.
Obviously self employed people and subbies take cash in hand but there's nothing from stopping you doing a bit of cash in hand work if you want to (and sail very close to the wind as a result). Title: Re: Tax Post by: Bennett on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 20:59:37 Those cunts fucked up, why should we be penalized. They should write it off as their mistake. whilst i agree we're not responsible for their error i can't help but think with the figures quoted we'd only end up paying it through higher taxes anyway loveTitle: Re: Tax Post by: Batch on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 21:01:13 Did they fuck up, or have they just found better ways of detecting some employers fucked up the P60/P45s?
Either way I bet I owe money somehow. Title: Re: Tax Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 21:05:26 Some people overpaid too, so you could be due a rebate if you're lucky.

There are too many loopholes in the tax system that those who 'have' exploit at will. I'm not for a minute suggesting all self-employed people flout the system, but a number do. The tax system is (or should be) designed to encourage things that are good for the economy. Self-employed people, are in general creating employment, for themselves and others. This is good for the economy. It's not a 'scam'. It's a balance of risk and reward. If self-employed people aren't successful enough, they don't get paid. It's pretty simple. You can have the security of a paycheck, or the risk of self employment, but no-one's forcing you to do either. Title: Re: Tax Post by: Coca Fola on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 21:38:10 Unrelated, but I did some work in October(first job) and I never recieved a P45 but still had £50 odd taken off. I went to the tax office and told them about it and they said it was illegal for them to do that. So am I entitled to something? :hmmm:
Title: Re: Tax Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, September 5, 2010, 21:53:09 Did you move to another job afterwards?

You can have the security of a paycheck, or the risk of self employment, but no-one's forcing you to do either. Fully agree. However that wasn't what I was getting at. I'm referring to people like my sister-in-law, who owns and runs her own accountancy firm and brags quite openly that she has never paid any tax for years. Hence why she can afford a nice detatched house in the countryside, a new car every two years and lots of foreign holidays. I'm not for a minute suggesting she is being dishonest, nor the vast majority of self-employed people earning themselves a living. But there are a number exploiting loopholes in the system to avoid paying tax, and its this that the government (certainly the Tories) promised to investigate as part of their manifesto. But there are a number exploiting loopholes in the system to avoid paying tax, and its this that the government (certainly the Tories) promised to investigate as part of their manifesto. And they have also promised to look at the ridiculous amounts being paid in benefits to the downright lazy bastards who are twice as better off doing sod all than going to work. Let's hope this happens soon, because I'm sick and tired of my taxes going towards housing and paying people whose only contribution to society is to produce hoards of kids that we pay for! And to pick up on Si's point, my husband was self employed for a number of years in the building trade and found himself without work around 18 months ago for the first time ever. He wasn't even entitled to jobseekers allowance because he paid a lower rate of NI, so had no money coming in for several months until he found employed work. Title: Re: Tax Post by: iffy on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 00:16:05 Without finger-pointing at other groups in society who have it easier than you, point the finger where the problem is. HMRC have fucked up royally here, and should be held accountable and lots of their senior people should be fired.
Title: Re: Tax Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 07:04:15 HMRC have fucked up royally here BBC news were saying this morning a lot could be down to employers getting PAYE wrong. Title: Re: Tax Post by: dporter on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 11:06:23 This article might help anyone who's been undertaxed:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/tax/income/article.html?in_article_id=513886&in_page_id=77#ixzz0yq18u7JN looks like there could be a few ways round it if your employer acts quickly on your behalf. Title: Re: Tax Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 17:31:33 If anyone want to check their pay each month i.e. name sure your employer is getting it right, a really useful site I use is www.listentotaxman.com
Title: Re: Tax Post by: Spy on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 18:08:26 If there was more for the government to pay back to taxpayers than the other way around do you think they would have told us?
Title: Re: Tax Post by: nevillew on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 13:37:24 Completely crap that so many mistakes appear to have been made, but what else can we expect in this age of general bureaucratic incompetence? That said, anybody who doesn't verify that their take home pay is in line with their tax coding wants their head looking at, in my opinion.
Title: Re: Tax Post by: leefer on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 13:51:18 It was announced in Prime Ministers Question Time this morning that 4 million people will get rebates.
1.2 million have underpaid...anyone owing less than £300 will not have to pay...people owing more will have a higher tax code for two or three years to catch up with payments...no one will have to pay out in a lump sum....unless they have the means and would prefer too. 2 billion pounds will be collected..........about the same amount it cost Labour to put in the SUPER DUPER computer that fucked it all up in the first place! Title: Re: Tax Post by: nevillew on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 13:59:09 Wasn't it the computer that identified the errors leefer ?
Title: Re: Tax Post by: leefer on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 14:07:32 Wasn't it the computer that identified the errors leefer ? Well nev...seems the computer picked up the errors...itself had created! Lets hope they are never geared up to operate nucleur weapons eh. Title: Re: Tax Post by: nevillew on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 14:09:13 Yep, wouldn't fancy that rebate !
Title: Re: Tax Post by: Summerof69 on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 18:24:23 Around this time, people had 2 tax codes in one year after Gordon Brown backtracked on the 10p tax fiasco. That probably hasn't helped.
