Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: reeves4england on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:00:09 What has stadium capacity got to do with it?
Attendances always need to be studied in relation to on the pitch success, prices, the state of the economy, the size of the local population (which has changed dramatically) and various other things. Looking at a bunch of attendance figures doesn't tell the whole story. Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:03:47 Oh!Batch! So do you know who the hidhest attendance was against and the score :hmmm:Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: Spy on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:16:40 17,000 average attendance is pretty good considering the population of the town was a lot lower then. Football attendances everywhere were higher then tho weren't they? Less choice in terms of entertainment and much cheaper ticket prices.
Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: dell boy on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:17:44 Average gates submitted in the post - 17,000 average means there were obviously some plus 20,000 gates, not bad when you think of a Division Three side. Last season that would have put us in the top four supported clubs in the same league. In 69 we didn't have sides like Leeds, Norwich and Southampton in the division to up the support, especially away support.

Then there's Southampton and Wednesday who'll bring a lot. Beyond them there aren't many who'll even bring 1500 I dont think. Plymouth might bring a few to one of their more local games, but the Rovers game is on TV, Charlton don't bring many, and I'm not sure how many Bournemouth and Yeovil will bring.Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:37:44 I don't ever recall anyone referring to Swindon as a "football town" in the first place.
17,000 is incredible for a small football club in 1960's Wiltshire. I wonder how many fans the likes of southampton and sheffield wednesday would get if they had spent the same amount of time in the lower leagues.
Title: Re: SWINDON HAS NEVER BEEN A FOOTBALL TOWN Post by: suttonred on Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:53:25 I know it's replying to trolling, but.... does anyone believe any of our attendances before a couple of years ago, old ground, but stick 50% on every seasons average and that would be nearer.

What was our top attendance last season 75k? Not even Arsenal managed that.
