Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:01:14 what does the link say? Work are being gay and stopping me acessing thisis......
I thought Mitchell was totally average. we could do worse, but also better :? Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Kinky Tom on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:01:23 I just don't see the point in signing him. I didn't think he look good really, and with Lapham and Jenks vying for right back/wing back this suggest he may be looking to have Mitchell play in midfield.

Quote EXCLUSIVE: ANDY King has talked to Wigan Athletic defender Paul Mitchell about a permanent switch to the County Ground. The 23-year-old, made seven loan appearances for Town at the start of last season before spending much of the campaign with Franchise. No official offer has been put to the player at this stage while Danny Wilson’s outfit have dangled a two-year contract in front of the player. King said: “I have spoken to Paul and also his agent but I understand that Danny Wilson is also very keen to have him. “I know he enjoyed his time here but he also thinks a lot of Danny Wilson. “He’s someone we obviously know at this football club and he’s played a lot of games at this level.” Mitchell is primarily a defender but he can also push forward into midfield when required. King has revealed that Mitchell is not the only name on his Wigan ‘wanted’ list. While the Mitchell deal could yet materialise, his second Wigan target is now a non-starter. Out of contract Jason Jarrett has been offered a new three-year deal by the Premiership new boys but is set to move elsewhere. The 25-year-old made just four Championship starts for the Latics last season, making 10 appearances from the bench. King said: “I’m not really looking at the loan situation at this stage but Jason Jarrett is someone I would have liked to have here. “He’s someone I remember watching during his days with Bury before he moved on to Wigan. “I understand he’s going to join Norwich City though. Somehow I doubt we would be able to compete with them.” King has also revealed how he made ‘cheeky’ inquiries for former Sunderland duo Paul Thirwell and John Oster. He said: “It was more because they are mates of mine than anything else. “Although funnily enough Alan Reeves bumped into them in Las Vegas where he’s on holiday.” While neither of the above players will be joining Town, King is working hard behind the scenes to try and secure fresh faces. He said: “I have four or five meetings set up with players that I want to talk to this week.” Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: le god cuervo on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:02:49 i thought he was pretty good when he was here on loan. i would rather see him playing right back than kyle lapham. its good that he can play in midfield aswell.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Boeta on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:02:50 He was a revelation at MK when played in midfield, going on what I've read.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Kinky Tom on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:11:42 OK, I've just spoken to a mate at work who went to see the Dons a lot last season, he said that he played as a DM, just in front of the defence.
Apparently he was one of their better players, very defensive, and also very well disciplined. If we do get him, then maybe he will provide the steel we need. In which case I will take back what I said earlier. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: STFCBird on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:18:16 Think we are going to need anyone we can get next season so I am not to worried
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:24:40 Quite liked the look of him when he was here and did well for the franchise.
Not that I would begrudge him it, but it would be a bit of a farce if the board went on to offer him a two year deal to match franchise's offer. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:25:27 Lets face it if its a choice between a year here and 2 at the Dongs.....he's going to take the Dongs.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: McLovin on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:28:44 He always used to be a midfielder, until Kingy rebadged him as a full back.
He's got to be better than Hewlett was/Pook is... Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Kinky Tom on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:29:11 Reasons to stay in MK - new ground being built as we speak, Ikea being built next door to the ground as we speak (match days are going to be very busy round that area).
Reasons for going to Swindon - Reg lives there. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:41:57 I have met Mitchell, had a little chat about players who kick people, decent sort of cove. I may have put him off.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Johno on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:42:42 He wasn't a bad player, could be useful next season. Cheeky offers for Thirlwell and Oster too! :soapy tit wank: imagine if they signed...

"I'm sorry to tell you madam, I have some Paul Mitchell for you. Your husband is dead." Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Kinky Tom on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 11:43:46 Jostien Flo apparently told people to kick Jan Agge during games, as he cannot stand it. Think this may have been the reason he was a slow starter.

Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: magnum150 on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 13:40:27 Out off all of the teams in this league, I would hope that our wages would have been higher than the dons.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: le god cuervo on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 13:41:53 the way things are going the dons will probably finish above us anyway
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: unclemark on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 15:29:33 God I hope not. Paul Mitchell was nothing more than average, but if he can play as a holding midfielder then I think it is worth a try.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: alex on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 17:06:19 Well if he is a right sided player, i don't see where the space in the team is for him. With Lapham and Jenkins at right back and Ricky Shakes (and possibly Igoe) in the right midfield spot, where does that leave Mitchell?
Maybe King has decided that Jenkins is the solution to our lack of hard tackling in the centre of the park and Mitchell will be the replacement right back? Would be logical. What was Mitchel like when he was with us? What were his strengths and weaknesses, etc.? Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 17:07:30 he's a central midfielder
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 17:10:38 Come to think of it I think we may have been close to signing him this season. If I recall King and the player both mentioned that a permanent deal could be in the offing before Wigan recalled him.
Not a hope we can mach the deal on the table. Two years and I’d imagine more than we can offer salary wise. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: magnum150 on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, 21:55:07 Still can't see the wage budget being bigger than ours. 3500 ave attendance this year. Piss poor for this league
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: Kinky Tom on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 14:53:32 I have it on good authority that Mitchell signed at 11:00 this morning.
For the Dons. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: le god cuervo on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 15:01:19 he has indeed...

Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: kick_ass1987 on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 15:04:50 Quote Paul Mitchell has been at the National Hockey Stadium today to finalise the details on his move to the Franchise. Mitchell made a big impact during his three month loan spell from Wigan Athletic during December to February, making 14 appearances at the heart of the Dons midfield before a knee injury forced his return to the JJB Stadium. Danny Wilson has tracked the 24-year-old over the summer, and has now moved to tie down the combative midfielder, whose two-year contract with the Franchise will start on when his current Latics deal expires at the end of June. Mitchell was delighted to get the move finalised. He said: "It doesn't seem like a minute since I was here a few months ago and I'm really excited to be back. "I had the knee injury in the Hull game here, but I'm well over it now and had a good few weeks of training with the Wigan lads. It was nice to get that under my belt and I'm fit and raring to go for pre-season." Thats just a bit of the text from the Franchise site.... so looks like you were right, he isnt coming here http://www.Franchise.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10420~675096,00.html Title: Bad News? Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: DMR on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 17:42:06 Let's be realistic.
We're flat broke, we're an unattractive side to join and we're lacking big names. I'll take Mitchell on a permanent deal any day. He does look average, but I bet you with a player like that in the side you won't get relegated- he's that sort of committed player. Wages wouldn't be too high. Get him in, for midfield or defense. Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 17:43:04 too late Dave, he's signed for Franchise.
Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: DMR on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 17:44:27 oops 8)
my point applies though, i think we're getting too hopeful of an influx of new faces  Title: Bad News? Renamed - Paul Mitchell Post by: magnum150 on Thursday, June 16, 2005, 22:39:23 Fucking Arse!
What is the world coming to when we can't even sign mediocre players. I was planning on getting a season ticket next year but i'm having doubts now. That has pissed me off now! |
