I saw about 40 police hauling a couple of town fans to the ground.

It was all fairly pathetic and I wouldnt have said they needed witnesses, except because theyve arrested them havnt got anything on the Town fans.

ACAB.

There was a comment on the Adver stories just after Wembley. Some women said on the train on the way home that her youngish two daughters started singing "Swindon till I die" or something. Some lads joined in and they were all told to shut up by the ticket inspector women. Which they all did.

To cut a long story short they (the lads) got chucked off and bundled to the floor by OB at Swindon.

I wonder if this is the above incident, and whether in fact she complained.

edit: Found it. Sounds like the same incident.

Post subject: Police at Swindon station last night

We as a 2 families 3 adults and 3 children took the girls to Wembley in hope of winning our dream to Championship it didnt happen as many of us were feeling gutted we didn't get there !. Trying to keep our spirits up for the sake of the kids . Who cried at Wembley, We caught the 19.30 Train home from paddington feeling very dissapointed about our loss. Our girls started singing on the train " Swindon till I die " ! keeping up good spirit. 4 lovely lads were sat at a table opposite us and joined in with the singing everyone feeling the atmosphere on the train chanting our Swindon songs we all felt so proud to be Swindon town fans ! Then in walks in a Lady ( if thats what we can call her ) British Transport Police . Warning our girls first to stop singing or they would be kicked off from the train ! Walked over to the lads and told them we are not to sing on the train as it unfair for other people to listen to us singing as not all people on the train had been to the Football game. We all stopped singing including the 4 lads who were sat near us . Telling the the LOVELY LADY NOT ! That we really wasnt causing any harm to others just wanted to sing our Swindon Town songs as we were all so gutted about losing to Wembley ! . I and my husband heard her tell another British Transport officer that she would wait until they got to swindon before doing anything about the lads . On way home we didnt sing but was chatting and generally having a good laugh about our day . Getting to Swindon town train station 4 lads were escorted by 2 officers off the train and informed us to get off the train a different way ! One police officer was stood right next to my youngest daughter who was 11 years old and she couldnt get off the train he was in the way . My friend was very polite and said excuse me please can we get out , He shouted at her telling her he would let her move in a minute which scared my youngest . My friend told the officer not to shout like that !. We all got off the train to loads of police officers on the platform with 2 of the lads pinned to the floor by police officers Everyone on the platform including our children and other families could not believe how rough and forceful the police were being all for singing on a train !!!!! ... Many people on platform were telling the coppers that it was unfair and they were being far too rough on the lads . One lad even told an officer himself that it was unfair only to be pushed by a copper then very roughly forced to the ground by 2 other coppers Both my girls at this point crying with fear of what they were seeing . I have always told my girls to respect the police they are there to help you and not to be scared of them in anyway ! Unfortunatly now both my girls are shocked that the police can treat people like that for just singing . We as many others on the platform were so disgusted with what we witnessed.

Funny how dozens of cops can be heavy handed on a few pissed up town fans but there colleagues up north can let a gunman roam for fucking hours without tracking him.......strange that.

I was walking down the platform, was sat at the front of the train. Pretty sure both of these Town fans had shirts on. Saw one lad hauled to the floor and about 4 BTP get on top of him.

His mate was walking away, dont know if he said something, but as he was walking away the dog handler deliberately made the dog bite his arm. Like I said he was walking away from the dog with his back to the dog. Then about 5 of them hauled him to the floor. Proper rough.

BTP hate football fans.

That woman should contact BTP and give a statement that the lads did nothing wrong. Wouldn't stop BTP trying to stitch them up, but I'm fairly sure they would have to disclose it to the defence in the event they did prosecute. If the incident is as described then they won't have much else in the way of useful non-cop witness reports and the mere fact of the only civilian witness statement making it clear they're lying (as from what was described they'd have to be to make any kind of prosecution) might be enough to make the CPS decide not to proceed. Assuming I'm correct about the disclosure rule still applying, which clearly she should check with Citizens' Advice or someone before coming forward

I got the 7pm train back, I'm pretty sure I heard it mentioned at Paddington that the trains were "dry trains". The town fans on our train were pretty quiet TBH.

we struggled to get fucking back because the train was full if you were going to swindon, but curiously not fucking beyond it

we pointed out the flaw in the paddington station managers logic and she laughed. we took it in good spirits whilst seething after a thoroughly deflating day.

still, atleast i didn't get chucked to the floor. i feel quite good about it now

I think you've all got the wrong end of the stick, if you Google the contact number they've given you'll find it's actually for the British Transport Police COMPLAINTS department.

http://www.btp.police.uk/about_us/complaints/complaints_about__individuals.aspx

So someone, probably those arrested, have made a complaint and it looks like they're taking it very seriously as they're appealing for witnesses. I wonder how long it will take the Adver to pick up on the story, I've probably posted the explanation a bit too late for tomorrows edition.

As the story on the OS says
Quote
On Saturday 29th May 2010 at approximately 8.30pm, following the League One Play Off Final between Swindon Town Football Club and Millwall Football Club, disorder occurred on Platform Four of Swindon Railway Station
it's an easy stick to get the wrong end of. Or maybe they use the same number for all public contacts whether it be complaints or appeals for witnesses and you're leaping to conclusions? Just a thought, like

I saw a young looking lad getting attacked by a police dog.And once he was on the floor being bundled by about four police. Was a upsetting thing to see.

I think the police just like to have a ruck and thought as nothing was going to happen they'd better make something happen.

I'm of the view that highlighting such posts every single time just makes the 'problem' seem more profound than it really is.

What exactly so wrong with the original post anyway? If it's a misguided opinion then counter it with a rational and reasonable argument. If you find it too stupid to comprehend then ignore it, it will soon get lost with the plentiful replies which happen in such threads. Shouting down people and telling them to piss off to a different forum is just as bad as the posts you're deriding.

If the place is going downhill it's not because of new forum members, it's because of existing members not putting enough in to encourage keeping it fresh. Indeed putting people off contributing is only going to compound the problem.

Personally I don't think the forum has gone downhill at all. There's plenty of people contributing - old and new members alike - and there's plenty of new threads every day. My only criticism is that we all seem to take ourselves too seriously now and again. But then you get the odd gems still, for example KoT has sorted out the Stunners thing and it's been great so far.

Plus you can call everybody a cunt on here. It's actually pretty fucking ace.
