Post by: BelfastRobin on Monday, June 7, 2010, 11:59:27
Signing for us apparently..http://www.swindon.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=201029

tipped as the next Georghe Hagi a couple of years back..

Seems like he has a lot of ability and potential but has had temperament problems..

Cherno Samba anyone?

Neville do you listen to the bugle podcast?  You should do.  Andy Zaltsman did a 5 minute monologue on the subject of Lou Reed featuring a mighty 31 dog name puns.

You love it.  And it may also give you fresh inspiration.

A jambo here for you

Hope for your own sake this isnt true.Copil is/was a petulant little child who took the club for a ride and produced nothing.

We signed him at 17 for 150K after fighting off celtic and liverpool and were excited about the next "hagi" with promises of first team football in a year etc

He went into our u19 team and was murder; barely played at this level and when he did was absolute crap; weak; slow and his ability wasnt much better. He was outshone week in week out at SPL u19 level - where a lot of players arent even full professionals.

After 18 months he threw his toys out the pram and went AWOL, eventually reappeared but it was more of the same until after 3 years we gave up and let him go despite having 2 years left.

He was very close to a bulgarian at the time (Branimir Kostadinov) who had the similar story and both with their attitudes absolutely destroyed the spirit in our youth set up and time and time moaned about how good they were etc whilst delivering nothing. Beware that Kostadinov doesnt show up as well. Hes particularly impressive at morale destruction and has a brother who posts on forums etc demanding his brother play and claiming the management have agendas etc. If Copil comes Im sure Brannys agent wont be far behind.

To sum it up - Do Not touch. A grade A cunt with little ability.

I heard a similar story from my Niddrie based Jambos supporting step dad.

Didn't like him or his attitude but did say that he had a good touch when he wanted to.

Interesting views from the Jambo. Thanks.

I guess we have had a few escapees that we've warned other clubs fans of that ended up proving us wrong, like, erm, welll.

Obviously it goes without saying he'd be judged on his Swindon Town performances

A Hearts fan. Having been on Hearts books, forget the guys temperatment, I hope he can take the step up in class.

Post by: Nijholts Nuts on Monday, June 7, 2010, 19:19:23
I reckon if he steps out of line a bollocking from DW would bring him back down to earth with a bump, Im pretty sure a tongue lashing from him would blow your socks off. Infact I remember reading somewhere ages ago that when he first came in and we were fighting relegation some of the players were actually scared to go in at half time because of what they thought his reaction would be to a shit first half. Sheehan had a bad rep at Lids for being a bit of a cunt, but we've not had or certainly not seen anything bad about his temperament.

Don't think we are signing him anyway.

Title: Re: Dumitru Copil
Post by: Miller Jambo on Monday, June 7, 2010, 20:50:44
He was released by us barely over a year ago (March 2009) and I sincerely doubt he has done much growing up since then; a lot of his problems related to wanting to go home etc so I doubt a year at home has cured that.

As for a step up in class  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: The SPL may have a bad reputation but its well proven that SPL players are above Swindon quality; at least at the moment.

As for DW giving him a rollicking. I very much doubt that will have any more affect than the regular ones he received from our academy director, u19 manager, owner and managers

I suspect if you do sign him like us you will end up forking out over the odds for him and his mothers caravan - yes he actually made the club buy his mother a caravan then give her a job - and get no return.

If you want a talented winger you will find far better around.

As sure as I am that you would like to ride on Fatbury's lovestick, I would point to Lukas Jutkiewicz and Danny Invincibile as two examples that would point to the fact that League 1 and the SPL are not a million miles apart.

Arfield from falkirk who moved to 'uddersfield for £400,00 would support a lack in class between SPL/league 1...

Title: Re: Dumitru Copil
Post by: Bennett on Monday, June 7, 2010, 21:35:48
cuthbert certainly, being that he played for the st mirren first team. ferry not so much, not that i think he's not a good player

Title: Re: Dumitru Copil
Post by: König on Monday, June 7, 2010, 21:36:36
but then you could say that they weren't anywhere near the celtic first team, but when they came here they were an integral part in our season? which suggests there is a difference in quality, albeit between league one and celtic, but then i suppose celtic (and Rangers) are way ahead of the rest of the spl and so there may well be very little difference between league one and the majority of the spl?

Title: Re: Dumitru Copil
Post by: Miller Jambo on Monday, June 7, 2010, 21:37:42
That would be the Jutkiewiec who went the the EPL and developed there; the Invincible who was a squad player for a team that escape relegation on the last day of the season and Arfield who was overvalued hence why no SPL club wanted him.

Players like Adam; Berra; Fletcher; Gordon; McCormack etc show the obvious gulf in class. A lot of average or squad SPL players are now plying their trade in England, many at the upper level of the championship.

Lets not forget either that your club has had several SPL reserve players as key first team players this season.

Its obviously not going to be likely to convince you but the SPL is a better league than yours; we simply dont have the luxury of our lower clubs paying shite players 4k a week so they all run off to sign for you.

You say there is a gulf between rangers, celtic and the rest and there is but its certainly not as wide as you think. Lets also remember cuthbert had a poor season in the SPL on loan last year yet is key player for you.

Title: Re: Dumitru Copil
Post by: jonny72 on Monday, June 7, 2010, 21:38:30
The SPL has two teams that might just survive in the PL, another 2 or 3 that might do OK in the Championship and the rest are League One quality at best. You just have to look at attendances and TV income to see that most SPL teams are on a par with League One - only 5 had higher attendances than us last season.

Didn't Greer say no to an SPL team and came to us instead?

I personally agree with you in regards to the standard of the league i think you summarise quite fairly. Disagree about Cuthbert though alot of celtic fans were disapointed he left and St Mirren fans certainly thought he had a good season and i believe that was at right back for them?

The St. Mirran fans wanted to sign him, make him captain and build their whole team around him.

Poor indeed.

Lukas hasn't played a single PL game, so he's hardly developed there.

It's all bollocks. The SPL is a hybrid of the English leagues top to bottom. For every stilian petrov, there's a john Sutton or jerel ifil. If he hadn't gone to Aberdeen he would've dropped down to league two or a lesser league one team. Using isolated examples of players in the SPL can support either side of the argument. It's a fucked up league that makes the EPL look balanced and competitive.

From Today's Adver...

Quote
Byrne also revealed that reports linking Romanian youngster Dumitru Copil with an imminent move to Wiltshire are well wide of the mark.

The former Hearts midfielder has already spent time on trial at Swindon, but Byrne insists there are no plans in place to sign the 20-year-old.

“I brought the boy over about three months ago now and he trained with the club for a week,” he said.

“We wanted to play him in a reserve game but the FA wouldn’t give us clearance.

“He is an under 21 international and very highly-rated, but we won’t be following it up.”
