I know the money is key for him.

Also it seems Sheehan isn't coming back to you guys, with Birmingham and Burnley alongs 2/3 other sides interested.

STFC will have a big shake up for next season. I think there could be a maximum of 13 players' deals up this summer, whether its contract or loanees.

Anyway BCFC Scrumps, shouldn't you be asking us about Ferry?

If I should be, what should I be asking?

If its to do with him coming to City, I don't believe there is any thruth in it whatsoever.

Infact some my side seem to think Hartley is off. however they know eachother from Celtic and Ferry was probably like Hartley's 'apprentice' lets say.

Which is why it will be best for him to go....downhill for BP from here. Pericard will fill the gap.

If he is earning 8K a week will he actually care?

Probably not.  Will be interested to see how it gets on at the next level though.  I agree with Arriba and think he may have done the best that he's capable of.  He's been fairly anonymous for the last few games that he's played in.  Plus strikers that leave Swindon have a habit of going downhill or becoming injury prone!

Title: Re: Billy Paynter

The vast majority of football players are driven by money and he is no different.

I don't think he'll do well.

Austin wants to move on and improve his wage income. One reason being he has a second kid on the way. Saying that I don't think he's doing too well with what he's earning now (was £300, is now £1800 a week).

if he's happy sitting on the bench on more money, then that would say alot about a player.i dont think they are all like that, and most want to play.

Title: Re: Billy Paynter
Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, 11:35:04
If Paynter had a shit season at best he'd be looking at a one year extension on the same money, at worst he'd be released and be looking at reduced money with smaller club. Given it is so easy to end up on the scrap heap you can't blame any player for taking a pay day to provide them with security for the future.

If Leeds have offered him £8k a week and say a 3 year deal, that's a £1.2m pay day for him and would set him and his family up for life. He'd be an idiot to turn a contract like that down just for regular football in a lower league, especially as he'll be thinking he can be a regular at Leeds in the Championship.

Fitton stated we did get offers in January, but chose to keep Billy to give us a chance of promotion.

How many times in the past under different regimes would we have sold to anyone at that point eh?  :beers:

Why can't Billy be honest and admit he is leaving to go to a championship club - I don't like players that know full well that they are doing but don't say anything, I can understand he didn't want to say anything before the PO's but now the season is over just be honest with the fans.

It's obvious he is moving primarily for

1) championship football

and

2) the higher wages that go with it

Might want to be a bit further North too. But it's mainly the above reasons isn't it? Does he really need to make a statement saying that?

I'm sure he'll say something to the adver thanking the fans at some point in the next few days.

He's signed a 3 year deal at Leeds according to the STFC Facebook page...

Our fault, shouldn't have let his contract run down. Learn the lesson, sign Cuthbert, Douglas etc up before January and move onwards and upwards.

He was offered a contract in the latter part of the season yes, unless I've a poor memory he was not spoken to last summer, when I'd expect them to at least have a talk about it with the better players.

But it doesn't really matter now, he's gone, Wembley's gone, lets move onwards and upwards.

Douglas has the option of a 3rd year to be fair. I know that doesn't mean he will sign though.
