King reveals signing EXCLUSIVE 14 Jun 2005 10:30 Swindon Town boss Andy King has exclusively revealed to clubcall that ex-Bolton midfielder Ricky Shakes has agreed to join the club on July 1, writes Kevin Hatchard. The Robins have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old for several weeks, and King has admitted a deal has been agreed in principle: 'I met young Shakes and his mother last week, and even though you can't really sign anyone until July 1, we shook hands on a deal.' 'We agreed in principle about money so I told him that he has my hand and to be with us on July 1.' Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Batch on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 11:23:54 Great, even if it isn't a suprise. Though it isn't a done deal to he's signed I suppose...
Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: magnum150 on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 11:32:02 Why doesn't the official site give us this then? might give those fans that don't check many footie sites something to get excited about.

Good stuff anyway, think he will be a real asset and should be good for a few goals. Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 12:32:25 Great signing if he signs, Bury fans loved him they were hoping he'd go to them.

He met up with him at the Australia v New Zeeland game. He laughed when he said that he brought his mum along. All is agreed with the player, his mum and his agent and will be here with us on July 1st Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 13:44:17 Good stuff.

Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Piemonte on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:01:07 It all sounds positive regarding young Shakes abilities, we need to bear in mind that his first team experience is limited to one 4-game loan spell with Bury though if I'm correct
Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: DV on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:02:38 I'll believe it when I see it
No where does it say he has signed a contract with Swindon Town Football Club, to quote OST FACT!! Plus footballers words are worthless Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Kinky Tom on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:03:34 He looks strong though, so if there is some skill aswell he should do OK in this league.
I just hope he can cross a ball. When was the last time we had someone play regularly on the right and consistantly put good balls into the box? Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Kinky Tom on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:08:36 Ty was a leftie.
That makes little difference though, as your response shows, it was a very long time ago. Mark Walters could cross from any direction Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: le god cuervo on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:12:29 ok lets not get carried away though. fair enough shakes 'sounds' good, but lets not forget eric sabin was announced as 'the next henry'! likewise lloyd opara came here with loads of promise but soon buggered off. we shouldv'e learnt by now that king likes to over-exagerate things.
like others have said a footballers 'word' means nothing either. i'm sure if another club came in between now and july 1st and offered him twice as much money he would be off. on a positive note at least we have attempted to sign someone & hopefully will be the first of many Title: Shakes deal agreed Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 16:17:14 Quote from: "Piemonte" It all sounds positive regarding young Shakes abilities, we need to bear in mind that his first team experience is limited to one 4-game loan spell with Bury though if I'm correct His scoring record at Bolton was superb though, better than one goal a game.
