Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:18:44 Is it just me, or are yank sitcoms the least funny thing on this planet. I have yet to watch one remotely funny sitcom. Friends is the best of an appalling bunch I find but is still woefully unfunny.
Opinions? :| Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:20:51 I thought Friends had its moments without being a classic. A lot of them aren't too bad if you give them a chance - Malcolm In The Middle is the best in my opinion, shame I don't get sky.
Joey sucks though Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:24:06 Quote from: "simon pieman" I thought Friends had its moments without being a classic. I generally find watching crap like 'Spin City' and 'Will and Grace' that you can see the 'jokes' coming a mile off! Title: American Sitcoms Post by: STFC_Chris on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:24:08 'Everybody loves Raymond' has got to be one of the worst, it's unbearable.
Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:26:37 I agree that a lot of them are wank, but some of the sitcoms over this side of the pond are shit as well. UK comedy is bestest though by far, all the comedy actors in the states love them as well.
Will and Grace is utter sheee-ite. You need to remember programs like Scrubs though, they are good Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:30:29 Quote from: "simon pieman" I agree that a lot of them are wank, but some of the sitcoms over this side of the pond are shit as well. I have never given the non-canned laughter yank comedies a try, are they worth a viewing? Title: American Sitcoms Post by: oxford_fan on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:33:21 scrubs is fantastic and i watch friends when its on telly but wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

Exactly. Changing the subject a bit, the states make some fantastic programmes, I can't wait until Lost gets shown over here, saw the pilot show and I was very impressed Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Leggett on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:40:02 scrubs is the bestest.
Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:41:24 I thought that Anchorman is everything that is right with comedy, good film.
Sorry Leggett's avatar reminded me Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Friday, June 10, 2005, 17:42:04 Yes but Americans by and large, well large certainly and some of them are bi too, don't normally have a very good sense of humour so really it's a wonder they've made any comedies worth watching at all but given that it has a population of 300 million there's bound to be the odd funny person, mostly immigrants from Britain and hence the simpsons and family guy and a couple of others. Unfortuately there's a lot of shite as well but that's to be expected.
I didn't think Anchorman was that funny but it was ok, my mates hated it. Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, June 10, 2005, 18:04:36 American sitcom reached its peak with Sergeant Bilko (The Phil Silvers Show) and its been downhill since......M*A*S*H was very good in the first few series.
An oldie that used to kill me was F Troop......doesn't suppose anyone here remembers it. Title: American Sitcoms Post by: Kinky Tom on Friday, June 10, 2005, 18:10:45 Cheers anyone?

Millwall F Troop and Harry The Dog :D American comedy is confined to cartoons in my opinion, in terms of television shows that is.
