Title: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Miss Angry on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 10:49:58 I know some of you cook... What would you prefer to cook on Gas or Electric?
I have to buy a cooker. Any house i have ever lived in has had electric... but a few people are telling me to get gas and now im confused. The same with carpet vs wood floors.... Ive always thought the latter looks nice but they say its cold.... opinions please x Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: axs on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 10:56:50 cook, cook, cookability, that's the beauty of gas.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 10:57:12 I had electric cookers growing up, but for the last year have had gas. I prefer the Gas, because it heats up quicker and i find cooks more evenly in the oven. Easier to clean too, because shit doesn't get stuck to the hob. Don't know if it's more expensive though
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Miss Angry on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 11:08:26 I think its more the installing that costs with the gas
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Panda Paws on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 11:13:12 Get an induction hob, they're class

Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: jayohaitchenn on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:05:07 Gas.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Ardiles on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:07:44 Gas every time. And carpets...but not in your kitchen.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Arriba on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:16:46 another vote for gas.electiric doesn't give the instant results that gas does.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:17:50 I've had both....but electric in the current house, so used to it, not sure it makes any great difference to how the food comes out.
Carpets...I really don't like the bare floor trend, noisy and cold. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Talk Talk on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:24:12 I'm stuck with electric but it's rubbish. You can't heat a wok properly on it or anything that requires intense/high heat >:(
Carpet in the lounge and bedrooms, ceramic tiles in the kitchen and wood everywhere else. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: LucienSanchez on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:27:59 Gas hob, electric fan oven. Perfect combo.

I agree with that. Although it is fun to watch your housemate burn off his eyebrows when trying to light the dodgy grill (serves him right for being a smart-arse because I couldn't get the temperamental thing to light!) Gas hobs are useful when you lose your lighter. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Ginginho on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 12:52:22 I have an electric hob cooker and I don't like it, I much prefer gas, as it heats up quicker, cools down quicker, and is easier to control the heat.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Samdy Gray on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 13:06:04 Another vote for gas cookers here.
I've got wooden floor in the lounge (proper 1" thick stuff, not the 5mm laminate) and it doesn't get cold. Relatively easy to clean as well (says me who's just spent an hour on my hands and knees scubbing it). Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Miss Angry on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 15:03:43 I think im sold on gas then, cheers fellas.
Kitchen n bathroom already have lino so im leaving them for now. But im thinking carpet for stairs and bedrooms... possibly save some money for some good wood for the living room and entrance hallway. Who ever knew carpets and carpet fitting costs so much!? Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: wiggy on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 15:07:55 Gas hob, electric fan oven. Perfect combo. This. And carpets Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Luci on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 15:12:50 Gas 100% sooo much easier as I find it easier to judge heat etc better on Gas.

Who ever knew carpets and carpet fitting costs so much!? carpets for less are very reasonable for carpets and fitting Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Samdy Gray on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 15:47:31 carpets for less are very reasonable for carpets and fitting I can second this. And if you do decide on carpet over wood/laminate, get the underlay and grippers online. It's about 90% cheaper! The extra-fabulous-super-luxury underlay that they sell for £9.99 per m2 can be had in 15m2 rolls for about £25 to £30. We did this and bought our carpet from Carpets4Less and their fitter layed the underlay and grippers for us at no extra charge. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Dazzza on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 16:09:09 Gas for the hobs and grill. Electric for the oven.
I find electric ok but like Talk Talk mentioned trying to cook anything with a wok is a fucking nightmare. Gas is far better and easer to control. Likewise for the grill, gas is far better. Oven is a different kettle of fish. I prefer a decent electric effort as it heats up that bit quicker and you getter a better even temperature throughout. I have found a gas oven can sometimes be a bit hit and miss and hard to get the right temperature. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: pauld on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 16:48:59 I've found my missus can set the smoke alarm off with equal ease on both gas and electric. That's how the kids know dinner's ready
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Miss Angry on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 17:00:41 ooh where is this carpets 4 less?
Can you remember the website you used Sam? I still have grippers on the stairs and lounge can i re use them or do i need new ones? Whilst im here... van hire i was gonna go with Duncans £40 a night or £75 a weekend... Do you know of any cheaper deals? Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Samdy Gray on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 17:10:50 http://www.tradepriced.co.uk
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Arriba on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 17:48:28 carpets for less is on the hawksworth trading estate.no need to replace grippers.
as for van hire i always use duncans.never had a problem with them Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Gnasher on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 18:04:48 Gas for me. Get's things cooked properly and you can light it with a match when there's a power cut :D
Laminate's more hygenic. All that dust, hair and shit gets worked into the carpet and stays there. Get's cold in winter but a couple of rugs and wearing slippers should do the trick. Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Lumps on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 18:23:41 Dual fuel - electric fan oven and gas hob. The best cooker I've ever had
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: nochee on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 19:19:08 You can always light your fag off the gas hob when you cant find a lighter. Gas rocks!
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Hammer on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 21:00:24 Top tip. Go for wooden flooring throughout. Instead of gas or electricity, I suggest you invest in a wood-burning stove. When you eventually decide to switch to carpets you will have a ready supply of wood for cooking purposes. Should save a fortune.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: Doore on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 21:38:20 Gas hob every time. With gas you are always in control of the heat - an electric hob takes time to heat up and cool down. It can really make the difference when cooking.
Title: Re: Cookers and Carpets Post by: @MacPhlea on Sunday, April 4, 2010, 22:18:34 Just got an induction job and it beats gas hands down - if induction didn't exist i. Would got for gas over electric
