Title: Jonathan Creek
Post by: DV on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 17:21:08
I'm sure its popped up in conversation on here before.

There is a new episode on Easter Sunday. I hope its a good'un and I really do think they should make another series.

Any other fans out there?

Got them all on DVD and looking forward to the new one at Easter.

Can't understand why they don't make another series. Pisses me off that they spend money on US imports that would be picked up by other channels if they didn't take them, when they could be spending the money on original shows such as Jonathan Creek.

I have the first 4 series and Christmas specials on DVD.

I ordered the new years episode and this easter one on DVD, the first is out of stock and the other is pre-order.

I'd like another series but I can understand having a break, its the type of show were you can only do so many before it gets a bit repetitive or you are just stumped for ideas. I thought the last full series this did was very poor in places.

Definitely time for a new series.

The one thing that pisses me off with our TV shows are the short and infrequent seasons. Plenty of US shows run for 23 episodes a season for year after year so it is possible. If its poor in places its due to the writers rather than excessive episodes. I'm sure they could hit 13 episodes of Jonathan Creek a year if they really wanted to - they could give Adam Klaus some more airtime as he could easily lead an episode or two.

Wonderful program. Second only to Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes in modern British telly for me.

a few that don't: the wire, sopranos, er (although it did eventually go downhill in a big way), six feet under.

I think it's run out of good ideas. I'll watch it in the hope it's good.

When it was in its prime it was very inventive and different to other things on tv, which I liked.

I keep meaning to watch the Sopranos. Watched The Wire and enjoyed it, on the whole it was really good viewing, it didn't try to do too much at the start only to fizzle out.

How many UK TV shows run to the equivalent of one full US TV season (23 episodes), let alone two?

That's a baby compared to Guiding Light in the US which ran to over 15,000 episodes.

You're comparing apples with pears though jonny. There's over 200m people to support the channels, along with equivalent advertising revenues from massive companies, higher viewing figures and a lack of brains.

Americans, i suspect, are far more tolerant of lengthy shows and absolute tripe like the price is right. I'm glad our television companies don't milk a show for all it's worth. It allows for more original programming, however shit it may in fact possibly be, along with something fresh.

Besides, don't forget that the money behind these big shows isn't big American tv channels, but big film production companies, who then sell on to all and sundry, including us.
