Title: Leeds v Millwall
Post by: Colin Todd on Monday, March 22, 2010, 13:53:34
Live on Sky Sports tonight if you didnt know

How do people want this to go? Whilst some sort of nuclear explosion at the ground would be nice, realistically I'd like a millwall win.

Leeds then lose to Norwich on saturday, we beat Hartlepool.

When we play them we will then be 1 point behind them making it an even more pants shittingly important game

I love us being good, it much more pleasurable making up results in your head when we are going for promotion than it is trying to avoid the drop

I'm genuinly confused.  Never wanted either of these clubs to win a game  (along with oxford, the 2 brizzles, cardiff swansea, reading manure and chelski)

A point each doesn't really help so I'm plumping for the tactical nuclear device option.

As long as Leeds don't win, I'm happy.

Beckford sending off would be good too. A straight red resulting in a 3 match ban.

Massive fight, loads of injuries / suspensions, points docked for failing to control their players.  Sounds good to me.

I want a draw,

I fancy us to beat leeds at their place & don't want it to go to the last game

Last time I watched these two on the box was the play-off semi-final at Elland Road when Zak Whitbread got KO'd. I was very nearly sick all over my television.

A heavy Leeds defeat would be highly amusing but it's unlikely.

My Leeds-supporting mate will no doubt send me video of the obligatory bovver by the Billy Bremner statue. Looking forward to seeing that but not interested in watching the game, only the result. A draw would be palatable.

They're saving their money for their Cup Final v us. I bet the fuckers raise their game against us, win and then lose their next 3 games to piles of mid table timpot shit. I bet they get their best gate against us when all the fucking drongos turn out and then go back to half empty grounds again - and I bet the toilets and catering are shit.

Ace. They are going to be cacking it when they play us. The crowd will be on them straight away. JD, Sheehan and Lucas need a decent 15 minutes to start off the "why oh why did we let them go brigade".
Kisnorbo might be out and hopefully Billy will be back.

Leeds look like a team with the jitters.  Millwall didn't look great but they look so well organised, they really could be the ones to get 3rd with their next 2 games being very winnable.  I reckon we could stiffle Leeds and pinch 3 points.

I expect Millwall and us to have atleast one, maybe two dodgy results between now and the final game. It just depends what each of us can get out of those games when we have a wobble. As for Leeds, as long as we beat Hartlepool and they don't find the Champions' League form between now and Saturday, our game against them is looking very interesting indeed!

They looked absolutely clueless tonight..and that includes the manager.

He looked completely perplexed by the whole thing whenever the camera focussed on him.  You'd at least expect a bit of shouting, pointing, anything.

All looking good but it's not beyond us to go and fuck it up at Hartlepool, with that wanker Spunkhouse scoring against us again.

Leeds really were bad. Totally devoid of any invention, confidence or cutting edge.

I didnt think Millwall were great either, although they deserved the win. Much like they were at the CG they were (cliche alert!) big, strong, well organised and tactically spot on.  Their centre backs impress me as well.  We're certainly a better footballing side than them though.

WACCOE thread titled "The Unpalatable Truth, Our Promotion Rivals":

Quote
I really believe we can still go up but, when i actually think about it logically, it feels like wishful thinking.
If we use the games we've played against our rivals as the yardstick it doesn't look good.

Norwich - We beat them - fact. We were very lucky. In truth they played us off ER and we were grateful for a point until their keeper blundered. Extremely fearful about what awaits at Carrow Road. Irrelevant anyway, they're the best team in the division by a mile.

Millwall - Doubled by the pikey twats and can have no complaint about either result. They could have murdered us tonight. In the ghetto we were outfought and outthought - deserved nowt but it's strange to think that Kandol's smack against the woodwork might end up being the difference.

Swindon - They did murder us. They looked very good that night, though it's hard to say how much of that was down to a truly shocking display by us. Guess we'll find out soon - never thought i'd see the day when i was fearful of a visit to ER by the mighty Swindon Town.

Charlton - Not a good team imo. However they had the better of the goalless draw at our place (at a time when we were flying) and it's hard to imagine our lot being comfortable with what is bound to be a high pressure match at The Valley.

And if it is to be the play-offs then they're going to feature at least two of the above. Another year in the third division is just to horrible to contemplate...

This chap sums it up very nicely:

"Bates has been in charge for 5 years.....

In those 5 years we have had 4 of the lowest finishes in our 91 year history..

-15 points..-10 points..administration..receivership ..near bankrupcy and liquidation...

2 play off final defeats..relegation...S/f play off defeat...

Dont know who owns the club...dearest prices outside the premiership...

!.5 million payout to levis court team...journalists banned from ER..{for telling the truth]

No radio leeds..no investment in january...but we will have a hotel?...

The wheels have well and truly come off this season....

We have no chance of finishing in the top 4...norwich have won the league.....

millwall have got 61 points from the last 30 games and are surely destined for second place....

We are in the s**t with no hope of redemption.....

A fourth season in the third division.....and when next season comes around......

We will be lucky to get 14000 for the games against yeovil, brighton, rochdale etc....

and ...unbelievably........there are idiots on this site who will say..."bates saved this club..."....

Personally....i think he destroyed it..."

The truth is, if Grayson stays we're gonna need some new faces because the players we have at the moment are either knackered or their confidence is totally shot. If they were going to turn it around, it would've happened two months ago, it hasn't so we need to look elsewhere.

I've been going through the Premier League and Championship squad lists, seeing who might be available to us, which is what I hope Grayson will be doing this week. For me, we need quality and someone who can offer a spark for us. Also, experience is key in this situation so that kinda rules out a lot of the younger players.

Here's the shortlist I came up with, and the ones in bold I'd love to see us go for, although I fully admit I don't expect us to sign more than one or two.

Defenders

Danny Shittu - Bolton - Perfect replacement for Paddy
Fredrik Stoor - Fulham
Martin Kelly - Liverpool
Greg Halford - Wolves - Decent full-back

Midfielders

Fabian Delph - Aston Villa - Creative spark we need in midfield and knows our players. Grayson needs to beg his mate O'Neill for a favour.
Mark Albrighton - Aston Villa
Nacer Barazite - Arsenal
Craig Eastmond - Arsenal
Gael Kakuta - Chelsea
Damien Plessis - Liverpool
Danny Rose - Tottenham
John Bostock - Tottenham
Andrew Surman - Wolves
Lee Carsley - Birmingham - Grafter that has lots of experience

Strikers

Nathan Delfouneso - Aston Villa
Kevin Phillips - Birmingham - Goals, goals, goals. Perfect back-up for Beckford
Ricardo Vaz Te - Bolton
Dani Pacheco - Liverpool
Sam Vokes - Wolves
Sylvain Ebanks-Blake - Wolves
Andy Keogh - Wolves
Marvin Emnes - Middlesbrough
Steve Howard - Leicester
Aaron Mclean - Peterborough
Craig Mackail-Smith - Peterborough

Quite....Wilson has yet to beat one of his managerial former sides in a league since he's been with us.

Pool need points and their home form isn't too bad.... but we are capable of winning.

He's deffo the above but he's one that likes to score against us. Let's hope that's his once a month goal out of the way.

You're right - a pain our aaaaaass, is what he is.

I reckon there's quite an interesting story behind your username..........????

Instead of singing 'Marching On Together', shouldn't they be singing 'Road To Nowhere' as that is more appropiate.

I watched bits of the game last night and isn't 'Marching On Together' part of their problem as it keeps harking back to their glory days of the late 60's and early 70's. Maybe they need to come up with a new anthem and move on into a new era

Looking at the fixtures, I'd now make Millwall favourites for auto.....
Think I made this point last night (or if I didn't I meant to) on the basis of both fixtures and form. But chatting to my brother today, I managed to convince myself that actually we have better opportunities to take points off those around us and so are more in control of our own destiny and that Millwall's fantastic run just means they're due a dodgy spell whereas we've had ours. I think I might have been getting a little carried away tbh :).

So with my sensible hat on, Hartlepool first, then see how we go from there.

So Colchester finished 3-3 ... not a bad result for us, even if they were 2 down.

Could do with Brentford doing a job on the 'Wall.

Millwall have 5 at home, where they are formidable....and only 4 away. The reverse for us, and includes visits to Leeds, ColU and Millwall....it could be done, but atm they have to be favourites.

If we're being down to earth and realistic then I agree, but a good run and a bit of passion means that those games put the whole thing very much in our hands. As we'd need a good run and a bit of passion anyway, I can't see it as that much of a disadvantage.

Of course I'm seeing it from a very one sided point of view, us having games against teams around us. From the other teams point of view they have games against us, but I'm not used to seeing it like that.

urrr. meh. or something.

This BBC article on Lids and their collapse over the last few months say it's down to the fact they are such a big side that it's our cup final.

Where have we heard that before :
