Just got myself a ticket for this on Friday, been in my diary since fixtures were published.    Weird that.

I haven't decided how to get there yet, may drive but my Mum will want me to call her when I get there.   So train or SAS also an option.

Google directions says 2hrs 45min drive - anyone any idea how accurate that is?

2hrs 45 doesn't seem so bad, not if you go home with three points in your pocket.   Got to be done now anyway, cos ticket is bought and the lads will need a good shout out that way - can't see many Town fans making it there (?).

Anyway, I'm particularly looking forward to the crap pitch.

I went last season. It rained, the ground's in the middle of nowhere, the car park was one giant puddle and there's no pub within easy walking distance. Oh and the queuing for a ticket was a joke too. Suffice to say I won't be going this season.

I went last season too (what the fuck was Brezovan playing at?!). Its' situation, the puddles outside etc just don't come into it for me. It's all about once you're in there, making a noise, & roaring the Town onto (hopefully) another 3 points. Going there last year hasn't put me off going next week one bit.

For anyone that has been to Layer Road (surely THE worst view in the country), their new ground is luxury in comparison, if a little soulless. While it is basically 4 separate stands plonked in an open area of land, they are very steep therefore the view was ace. They've moved away fans to the other end this season but it looks like an identical stand. It's gonna feel totally different this year too because we were right in the shit when we played there last season, even more so after losing.

It's stuck on a business park about 3 miles from station/town centre. I saw a few buses there last time which had come from the town centre but I don't know where exactly they go from or frequency. Like most new 'Lego' grounds, it's shit to get to by train.

I just noticed you alread got an answer. Oh well, that's my two pen'ath any way.

Feel a bit like I did couple of seasons ago when I had to choose between Northampton away on a Tuesday night and Yeovil away following Sat - that bloke who we sold to WBA scored a hat-trick at Northampton in 4-3 win then we lost

Won't happen this time though, crap pitch or not at Col, we will dig in and hopefully get a good result

I'd decided the same but after yesterday I'm not feeling it anymore. I got home at 9.30pm (having left at 7.30am) and felt like shit as a hangover had started kicking in from all the alcohol I'd drunk earlier in the day. My throat was killing me from 90 minutes of non stop cheering, screaming and taunting with the jumping around like a mad man leaving me knackered.

I'm getting too old for all this shit. I reckon promotion would finish me off for good. Good way to go though.

I am now more nervous than I have been as a town fan in a long time.  It's ours to fuck up, yes Colchester is going to be a tough game but hopefully we are going there at the right time of the season when their form has dropped and we seem to be on top of our game.

Considering how strong this league has been this season we have been doing fantastically well.  I don't think anyone (realistically) would have thought we would be in the position we are in now with six games left to play having beaten both Leeds and Saints home and away.

the way I look at it: there's nothing to be scared of. If we don;t go up automatic, it's no real loss, as no-one expected it. So lets just enjoy this...

I was in suffolk yesterday and came back past the colchester stadium. chatting to a millwall fan at the service station about the game and he said Colchester were nervous. the first goal will win this game...

I am now more nervous than I have been as a town fan in a long time.

Nothing is ever going to be worse than when Bodin ran up to take that penalty against Leicester. Never seen so many people in one place all praying at the same time, it was like the Vatican. The previous game against Tranmere was pretty much a full 90 minutes of changing your underwear as well.

But having said that, its strange as it feels a lot bigger getting promotion this year.

There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the town centre and visiting fans may find that getting to the ground in this way is an enjoyable one.

Millwall fans were boasting yesterday, that there were more of them than the Colchester fans.

The pitch looked as if it had dried out,but pretty bare and bumpy, looking at the FL Show last night.

Complete fluke of an own goal won the match.

Just thought I would post summary of parking info from the Football Fans Guide website:
There 600 car parking spaces at the stadium which cost ?5. Most of the streets nearby have residents parking.
Alternatives are parking factories in the business park that leads to the ground and parking north of the bridge over the A12.

I don't like the idea of parking in the Town centre, then getting bus to the train station then shuttle to the ground, but parking at the ground sounds like a way to sit for an hour in the car afterwards - what does everyone else recommend?

Yeh of course fella, that's why I said an initial 500. From memory I reckon that stand is about the same size as the Town End (2000-odd). Plus, as you say, they have no fan-base so if a freakish number of Town were to turn up, they could shift some of them out the way (a la Brentford in days-gone-by).

My info was that they were sent to the wrong part of the country, and were being couriered to Swindon "as we speak". They'll go on sale to season ticket holders first, as soon as they arrive.

I phoned today to get mine and like you say, they'd sent them to Manchester. Apparently they won't be here until Friday.  ::)

Swinton apparently.

There's a Swindon in Cheltenham, a Swindon in Dudley, a Swinton in Mexborough amd of course Swinton in Manchester, which used to get its scores read out on Grandstand years ago.

Enough to confuse any postie...

Bring your 40 year old mate-he'll enjoy it much more than a boring old birthday party!

I've already got an allocated space in the shed, for going as much as i have, as it's my other halfs best mate and she's booked a £200 a night hotel, i definately would be looking for a sofa for a few weeks at best if i go. Hadn't thought about Wycombe selling out, i'll be well pissed off if most of the tickets go to armchairs.

Agreed. I'll be the loser over the last two games as I couldnt afford my season ticket all at once at the start of the season, so have paid to go to every home game individually along with 11 away games. Ill be devestated not to get a Wycombe or Millwall ticket! Got my Colchester today though :)

Armchairs don't tend to have season tickets or go to away games at places like Wycombe, don't worry.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

As they are expecting a fair few Town fans to pay on the day, Colchester are saying that it's advisable to ring them direct and book your tickets today, & collect at their ground tomorrow. You'll find that you'll spend a lot less time queueing this way, than if you buy on the day.

I've done this at various grounds in the past, and because only a small amount of people have thought of it, it's a piece of piss.

Got some 50 mph roadworks somewhere roughly near Heathrow.  I just hope a crane doesn't fall on a lorry causing it to explode.  Certainly made my drive to Surrey a long one yesterday...but hey, it could have been a whole lot worse!

Cheers fellas, appreciate that. I know Saturdays aren't as bad as the working week but it can still get a bit snarly on occasion eh.
