Think we might get a result, probably lose. I first went to The Dell in 65 when we got beat 2-1 and got relegated from Div 2...since then we haven't got so much as a point at Soton, so maybe it's about time we did...

After some of the recent games I wasn't 100% sure, but I think today has made my mind up. Fucking hell when I think of all the shit-holes/games/journeys/turnouts over the last decade or whatever THIS HAS TO BE DONE. I know their ground is the same as Leicester, Derby, Middlesbrough etc but compared to what we've been used to......

Afternoon gents.  Saints fan in Swindon here (in peace!)

Hopefully you guys take a decent number down on Tuesday night, I'd have thought you'd take a fair few more than the 950 mention before.  Its only a hour down the road afterall.

It should be a good game with two form sides.  Hopefully from my point of view the Saints will turn around the score from the County ground last August when you ripped us apart.

Tough game for us. We've been on a great run in the last few months before those 2 defeats. Getting back on track yesterday was great however we have a few injuries to some key players so we may have to go with a 4-5-1. I think a point would be a great result for us.

We've had a settled team for the last few games and the only change that may happen for us tomorrow is Osteabor maybe giving way to James (as he came off after 15 minutes on Saturday against Leeds)

Saints fans are seeing this game as a must win if we are to have any chance of the play offs (which i think we'll come up just short) but after winning seven league games in a row at home together with some decent January signings (Fonte and Puncheon) the confidence is certainly there.

For those who are having a pre match beer in Southampton, pretty much all the pubs local to the ground will let you in with shirts.  Never normally any trouble apart from when we play the blue few from along the M27.

Thanks for the tips Saint - plenty of parking round the ground?
With your home winning run & our depleted (small) squad I'd definitely take a point, but we have enough about us to get a win. Was impressed with the noise you made at the CG (until you realised that you weren't gonna cuff the carrot-crunchers  ;)), one of the loudest I can remember at our place.
Puncheon is an exciting & dangerous player, I remember him ripping through us in a Barnet shirt & thinking that it was laughable that someone that good was playing for them.

There isn't a huge amount of parking around the ground. I always use the multistory on St Marys Road or the open car park on trinity road although you have to be there early to use this one.  You guys also have your own dedicated away fans park and ride.  This is just off the M27 at junction 8 (Hamble).

Cheers for the compliment on our away turn out at the county ground. Shame the team couldn't match us that night. If it wasn't for Kelvin Davis in goal it could have been five!  Thankfully for us our team is pretty much unrecognisable from then.

Oh and COYR???   I'm agreeing with you there!  You'l be in your white away kit?   ;)

Ah yeh fair enough - it's a habit. You've got white in your kit haven't you so I'm thinking the all-blue 3rd kit - COYB. We wore that kit at Fulham & still our fans were singing come on you reds  ::)

Again thanks for the tips - park & ride for us I reckon. Sounds hassle-free & easy to find.

It is easy.  Junction 8 and follow the signs.

It will obviously drop you off at the ground.  The nearest pub to the ground is the King Alfred.  If you walk along the Northam End of the ground (where you are sat/stood) and walk up over the bridge by the railway track it will bring you out on Northam Road and you'll see the KA from there.

If the weathers nice you can stand outside where they'll have a BBQ going and every normally mixes well.

I normally come off at Junction 14 and take the road across through Wickham and Wickham Heath to meet up with the A34.  Not sure its much quicker but it breaks the journey up!  Takes just over any hour from my house in Freshbrook.

Title: Re: Southampton away
Post by: swindonSaint on Sunday, March 14, 2010, 20:57:10
Don't know how many we've sold so far but that wouldn't surprise me.   We've had four 30,000+ crowds since Christmas and when we played Huddersfield a couple of Tuesday ago we had 20k with very few away supporters.

I'd reckon if you bring a couple of thousand on Tuesday and with the current feelgood factor around St Marys it could get the attendance up to 23-24k

Juddie,

You need to allow plenty of time with the M3,especially at rush hour around Basingstoke,
Winchester and where the M3/M27 meets. They can get snarled up very quickly and very often.

Allow time for the park and ride for away fans,if you're using that and if you're thinking of driving
into the city centre,Southampton City Council have deliberately slowed the traffic,by increasing
the traffic lights and box junctions. It can be a continual stop start situation!

If you know exactly where you want to park,i'm sure you'll be fine. However,if you're going to be
searching for somewhere, that's when problems arise and you'll need to allow yourself that extra
bit of time.

Its also very busy around the interchange as you approach Southampton, from Wokingham you will need to allow at least 1.5 hours at that time of night. Driving onto the Hamble will take another 15 minutes.

A tip for parking: Park on the streets (off street parking) near Southampton University approximately 2 miles, plenty of buses go towards St Marys, not sure what number on public transport though, you can also pick up student buses which will take you within a 10 minute walk.

We've never had any problems parking there and that was when they were in the PL and getting capacities. We'd normally park a mile or two from the ground on a residential street and get the bus, they were pretty frequent though that was on a Saturday - don't know what they're like midweek. There was a train station we'd park near, fuck knows what it was called.

Buses are very frequent right up to midnight, so no problems getting back as long as theres room to get on the bus in the first place. Haven't used the Park & Ride, I was just thinking what a nightmare that could be to catch to and from the ground, bit like Gatwick/Heathrow park/bus a free for all, queing does not exist those who push the hardest get on.

Yeah but this isn't at the sports centre?

Where's the party being held JFW? I'd like to gatecrash  :) (seeing as it's in Calne).

By the way Si Pie won't be coming, well according to this from another thread......

I don't intend on going to Calne, not for a night out, not at a weekend, not ever.

Bit worried about parking. Hear it's a bit wank.

Drive to Bitterne park, signposted (left) off of Thomas Lewis way, which if you come off at airport sign (Don't come off at Southampton turn) from M27 is the road into the city. Once in Bitterne Park, park car near to a large pub called "the station" which is on Bullar road, (there will be loads of Saints fans in there). Across the main road from the station is a bus stop where every 10 mins or so you will  be able to get a bus very close to the ground. (Or walk ina bout 20 mins) I'm a local and that is what I would be doing if I hadn't stupidly booked a holiday without checking fixtures first.......

i would just like to point out that their park n ride for away fans doesn't appear to be suited from our west country entrance.....am i right??

I drove past it the last time I went to a game at St Mary's. Pretty certain we went that way to avoid the traffic, which will be even worse for an evening kick off. So I wouldn't let the slight detour put you off.

Why not? I'm going to Salisbury, join M27 at Jct2....off at Jct 8, park and ride about 500 yards away.

Haven't used the Park & Ride, I was just thinking what a nightmare that could be to catch to and from the ground,

No I'm informed that they organise it pretty well with minimum disruption to travelling fans. They plan it according to how many are expected, ie buses will be fairly constant & 100-odd can pile onto each one, so as long as it's not left until the last minute we should be fine. I only ever worry about getting there - couldn't care less how long it takes to get home.

Thanks to the Saints fan who was on here yesterday and all the others who gave advice.

Saint, one quick question.....can we pay at the turnstiles or do we have to go to a specific ticket office?

The King Alfred on Northam Road is away fans friendly and is about a 2 minute walk from the ground. Does a BBQ on matchdays weather permitting so thats where i'm gonna be from about 3pm this afternoon!
