Title: Oi! Brighton lot!
Post by: JMH75 on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, 15:25:16
I'm on a stag do this weekend in Brighton  :\/
and although I have been there a few times as I don't live that far away I thought that I would ask some locals for some good advice on places to go for:

1. Pleasant afternoon starter drinks (it's kicks off at 2.00 on Friday)

2. Lively Friday & Saturday evening drinks. :beers:

3. A good bar/club type thing for more drinking in to the small hours. :chunder:

Any suggestions?

Whatever you do make sure you go to Mamma Cherie's place, and let us all know if it was good.

What kind of place is it? Bar, pub, club, restaurant?

Ah, featured restaurant on Gordon Ramsay last night, he was very impressed before he got involved.  Now he's sorted the business the place looks set to make a shed load.

Good old american/carribean cooking.  Looked delicious.  Have to book for weekends now though.

Oh right, might not be the place for a 20 strong stag party, but I might see if I can get in there on the Sunday evening.

I'll let you know what it's like if I can.

I'm bloody starving now!

Sorry JMH75, I missed this post!

Depends on the weather really.

Daytime drinking:

If it's crap weather and you've got a big group you're better off sticking to big pubs: try King and Queen, Font & Firkin or the Prodigal.

If the weathers nice try: The seafront, can't go wrong down there - especially Gemini's, live bands 'every day it shine's'

Evenings:

If you want birds stick to the main drag: Yates, Greens, Heist (bars) Or Riki Tiks, Bond street - happy hour til 7pm I think.

For clubs, follow your nose really. Split into groups of 2 or 3 though and stagger you're entry.

Mex may have been more help I think!

[EDIT] I think he may have already left now :?

Cheers Sussex, that's great.

Hopefully the weathers good so we can check out some of the bars and the ladies on the sea front. 8)

Cheers for the groups of 2 or 3 tip, much appreciated.

Do you guys get the problem of not being allowed anywhere in groups at night in Brighton?  We were in a group of 8 last time and half of us had to go in Yates across the road (quite nice) whilst the rest went in Spoons, and then secretly rendezvous later in Spoons once the bouncers had changed.  Once inside every table was surrounded by 20 or so people, but going in they seemed a bit harsh.

Yeah most places are a bit wary about letting in large groups of chavs.

not true, we are strict as fuck in my club, no hen or stag parties, we also question pretty much everyone who tries to get in, the reason being we dont want big groups of blokes in the club, because if it kicks off it can be a nightmare,
also we are an indie club so chavs are turned away, indie kids prefr it that way, poofs.

Brighton's shit for groups.. (unless it's comprised of at least three fitties)
Sorry for missing the thread, Sussex Red's advice is pretty much spot on.

Unfotunately if you're looking for cheap nights and big groups at the weekend you'll end up drinking with the scum.. it's pretty much unavoidable. As SR says, split into groups and stagger your entry.

Check the phone boxes for your 'oriental massages' (much like London)!

Clubs at the weekend WILL be expensive as fuck and WILL mess around with you at the door if you look like 'outsiders'.

Ohther than that have a fucking good time!
