Title: Don Rogers stand
Post by: The_Plagiarist on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 09:47:39

Took advantage of the 2 for £25 for carlisle and stockport and thought I'd treat myself with a view from the posh seats  :D

What a letdown.

I'm a town end regular and I admit the view aint the best but the one HUGE difference between the town end and the don rogers is the TE get behind the team

There seems to be a reluctance to make any noise up there unless its to moan. Last night for example, we're 4-1 up, silence, passing the ball around nicely, silence, one misplaced pass... all hell breaks loose!! all the miserable gits around me start growling and shouting at the players.

It's like they can only make noise if it's to moan. Town end get behind the team. Don Rogers are spoilt cunts.

(without wanting to generalise or anything, like)

You must be sat in the wrong place then because near the town end at the top always gets behind the team, thanks to the oxon reds,i thought last night we were pretty loud at times.I agree in some parts of the drs you get whingers but you get that everywhere including the townend.

The DRS was loud at times last night in the corner near the Town End. I am almost starting to think that the future singing section of any redeveloped stadium could be that very corner.

Should have heard some of the moany fuckers at Huddersfield, 2-1 up at HT and almost everyone around me was spouting utter bollocks, half of it is listen to me me me syndrome. Twats.

I also noticed lately we seem to have about 30 odd fans up in the arkells next to the away fan's,thats going be interesting up there against rovers.

I agree mate was sat down that end and tried to join in with the town end but none of the cunts around me wanted to know. Looked around and people looked scared to make a noise what the fuck is that all about?

Fair play to you lot up the back for flying the flag but you've got your work cut out there from what I saw. miserable bunch of cunts.

Second half when the TE was sustaining the "DWs redandwhite army" for ages, people couldn't even be arsed to clap along! how much fucking effort does that take?

But then one misplaced pass and every cunt and his dog suddenly has a voice! This is when we're 4-1 up and playing some great football at times and in the midst of our best season for years!

Made me sad so it did.

Hope not, at least have it close to the Away fans. Keep it in the TE though

The reason we don't (and shouldn't) clap along to danny wilsons red and white army is because it will just turn into a spastic fast clap like it usually does. Sing don't clap.

I'm also not convinced the town end is the cauldron of positive noise you imply.

Im not quite at the top im in row u but join in everytime,I got some around me that wont join in and just look at me especially when i jump up and vent my frustration at the ref etc, when i think it was mex who started off give us an S only around three or four behind me joined in but i dont really care what they think,Im thinking of moving up a couple of rows next season.

I'm in the town end and I agree the south stand is much too quiet. Most of them seem unwilling to join in. It seems singing isn't what they want from their matchday experience. Quite a few of them will join in Danny Wilson's Red and White Army, they've got the hang of that, but they don't seem to sing anything else.

Why did people who sing stop sitting opposite the away fans? Remember when they used to start songs more?

What has surprised me in the last few games is hearing singing coming from the Arkells!!!!! I have never heard that before!!! Fair play!!!!

I'm slap in the middle of the DRS and there's three/four of us try to get singing going and/or at least join in with the TE/S Oxon reds. But most of the time it's like pulling bloody teeth, number of times last night I wanted to turn round and shout "If you fucking sang half as much as you moan, we might have an atmosphere". My joy was completed on the way out by the two guys who coming away from watching us complete a 4-1 victory in one of our best seasons for years were earnestly discussing whether Ferguson had "lost it" in signing Berbatov instead of keeping Tevez.

That was back in the days before £23 tickets. When the prices rose people moved to the Town End because it was cheaper. The last couple of seasons have been a bit of a mess with no real concentration of singers. Hopefully next season will see a lively Town End once more, and Mex's crew are doing a good job in the DRS, hopefully it'll bear fruit in time.

At least it was football, i spent the second half listening to a discusson on the merits of golf swings.

Agreed. It's terrible. A drum would be an answer, but that's equally cringeworthy. What you need is a good old fashioned tin stand like at Southend, and somebody willing to keep banging on it in time for half an hour or so :)

just the chanting between the two groups is all it needs.no drums, no claps.
why the clapping started with that chant i dont know.never happend in the macari-ardiles eras when the chant was at its peak between the shrivvy road and the town end

Ahhh, yet it was the Townend that used to be the original coudron of atmosphere before the DRS even got built!!

It got fucked up because some fucking moron decided that the TE should be called the Rover 'Family' Stand years ago, and it hasnt been the same since :(

However it did get a bit tasty in the corner between the old south stand and stratton bank sometimes!!

Cheers for that.

At the end of the day though, people pay their money and can moan as much as they like.

Title: Re: Don Rogers stand

What are you trying to say?

If they don't cheer and just moan then the atmosphere is not good.

If we are losing and playing awfully then fair enough but not if we are one or two goals up!

I'm not saying people can't criticise or have an opinion but if i was in DRS and nobody joined in any chants but they were all moaning even though we were winning I'd be pissed off about it too.

Title: Re: Don Rogers stand

Yes, I dont have a problem with that - its the sometimes 'I go in the town end' high and mightly attitude. We sing, we're loud, we support the team, we're ace - you sit and moan, you're crap.

Yes, there is more atmosphere in the TE than the DRS but its nothing to be proud off, the TE has been dead for years and years. Spare the odd game here and there of course.

Maybe if the TE folk spent as much time creating an atmosphere in the TE as they do moaning about the lack of atmosphere in the DRS then the CG would be better for it.

And if the self professed 'atmosphere creators' in the TE actually got there more than a few nanoseconds before kick off instead of pissing it up in the pub, maybe they could get the match starting off with a bit of 'atmosphere' - sorry, singing irrelevant obscenities about some team we haven't played for years. (that's if you're not too busy playing 'throw the football')

I sit in the DRS and don't sing or moan, I like to watch/study the game, which is why I sit where I do on the halfway line!  I do shout encouragement to the players and verbally abuse the ref once and a while but I don't see how this makes me a spoilt cunt!

And I didn't see the town end get behind the team last season or early on this season, does this mean you only sing when we're winning, or just a part time cunt?

It depends on the game. When it's a big game it's full and the noise/variety of chants is much better. A few years ago the TE would be full any time we got 7000 in the CG, unfortunately they're all sat elsewhere now. I really do hope the £199 initiative works.

Title: Re: Don Rogers stand
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 17:20:25
The TE was good last night. The problem the TE has is that the retards who clap too fast or chant out of time totally ruin all the chants and then people just give up so it never sustains even if it's built up. I prefer the TE not just because there is a better atmopshere than in the DRS (no matter how quiet people think the TE compared to the other stands it's loud) but because I can stand to watch the game and not have limited leg space, there are very few moaners or people who think they know everything about football. I also like it when we shoot towards the TE. Always great when it hits the back of the net. At the end of the day the DRS is more of a family stand. I don't have a family and don't have to worry about taking kids or a wife etc to football.

If there is enough volume people around me in the DRS will sing. I sit about 35 seats to the right of Mex (by the way Mex I liked the French impressionist look you wore last night  :D), when the volume increases people do join in. I do agree though there are plenty of arm folded gits who just come along for the moan. I like to think back to the Shrivy Road days up by the away corner...that's where the noise was on that side of the ground, the banter between that section and the TE was great. i want to get my season ticket in the DRS for the 3rd year running but TBH I want to have a good sing song / shout; if the SO reds are gonna be in the same area next season then I may move to that area (even though I love my seat).
