It was Jan 1991 and I think we drew 1-1 with Deadly Dunc scoring. I remember a massive hail storm just before kick off and the Swindon fans on the open terrace went and hit round the back of the side stands. Think we beat them in a reply, after one of the games was abandoned because of an icy pitch

£20 and it is pay on the day although you can buy tickets at ticket office, I think the away end holds around a 1300 but if we win the next 2 we might actual take a fair few so it might be worth buying the tickets up front.

It's looking about £35 for me, but thats yougn persons railcard and going from bath spa. I'm more concerned by the 4 changes that thetrainline are suggesting I take! Sounds like an effort.

Can you not go Bath to Paddington, then make your way onto the central line? (I haven't checked engineering works, so the answer may be no!)

I'm looking forward to this. I suppose it would be wise to book some tickets given that it sounds like a popular game!

Take the circle line to liverpool street and then central.

No service between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court on central...i believe.

Ok, I've just checked, and you're miserably wrong :)

There is no central line service west of Marble Arch and the Circle Line is closed, so the best route would be either Paddington to Liverpool Street on the Hammersmith and City Line, then Central Line from there...or it might be quicker to get to Baker Street, then go Bakerloo to Oxford Circus and change for the Central Line from there.

From Swindon? Don't quote me on this (cue quote). Use the Didcot method if possible and make sure your train stops at didcot before embarking:

Swin-Didcot return - £8.90 (of peak day return)
Didcot Paddington return + travelcard £23.00 (travel card off peak)

So £31.90. Not sure about group saver prices. I'm currently travelling billy no mates and meeting people up in London.

whereas

It is much cheaper doing this than getting a direct ticket Swindon-Paddington return on the same ****** train. Only restriction is train must stop at didcot:

Swindon-padington - £45 super save off peak day travelcard/£53 travelcard off peak. WHAT A SCAM!

As for times, as far as I can see here are some examples that stop at Didcot (no changes):

OUT:
dept: 9:51 arrive: 10:56
dept: 10:04 arrive: 11:08
dept: 10:11 arrive: 11:14
dept: 10:18 arrive: 11:23

Narrow time band, there must be later ones but I didn't check.

IN (pad-Swin):
dept: 17:30 arrive: 18:31 (unlikely!)
dept: 18:21 arrive: 19:29
dept: 19:30 arrive: 20:30

For tube see R4E post above!

It always shocks me how much more it costs to go from Swindon than Newbury or Hungerford, I know it is further but it is not double the distance from Paddington. Our return tickets are £9.50 on Saturday from Newbury and would have been £11 from Hungerford but there is less choice of trains from there.

I know.

And thanks to the different train franchises having different prices its near impossible to find the 'best price' too.

...a long time ago in a galaxy far far aware

We were travelling somewhere as a family and when Mrs. Jobsworth looked at our tickets asked us to display some sort of railcard which we had - I cant remember what the fuck it was and we didnt have it.

She made us pay the extra money right there on the spot.

Good luck with that one. They are right sods if anythings wrong. I had a timed ticket for a home game last season from Paddington, and accidentally got on one 15 mins before. Got to near Swindon and they checked and said £40 please, I said i didn't have it. He said fine I'll get the police to meet you at Swindon station. Didn't want to risk missing the game so managed to scrape £35 which he took!

You may have the misfortune of travelling with some Shitty fans,as they're playing at Ipswich.

If you're really unlucky, you may get Chelsea fans from Reading and they won't be the prawn
sandwich brigade.
