That is excellent news. It won't stop the nationals linking with with
moves away though. They long departed a fact-based reality.

Apparently we are also after Matt Ritchie of Pompey (ands Notts County) - a proper cash bid.

I for one, have to eat humble pie. I thought it was too soon for him to be thrown into the 'mix' but has proved me wrong! The boy done good. Fair play to him, long may it continue.

Great news.  I assume that's two years from then end of the season (ie 2010/11 & 2011/12 seasons)?

Was thinking the same thing, should have least been 3.

Probably because he'll be 23 when it expires and if he leaves us at the end of the contract, we'll be entitled to a fee still, whilst if he signed a 3 year deal he would be 24, and if he then left at the end of it we would get nothing.

It's very rare for lower league clubs to offer more than 2 nowadays.

Oooh, good spot!

To be fair, I think all clubs would do that on a contract of a young, promising player. Make sure it expires before there are 24, as they would get bugger all after.

Fitton has made it clear that the 3 and 4 year deals are a thing of the past at Swindon FC....great news for us in the sense that if someone wants him now they pay top money.
Hes been a major part in our resurgence after the early season drawathon.

Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin is set to be rewarded with a new contract in the next 24 hours.

The 20-year-old hot-shot has had a prolific start to his professional career after scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances since joining Swindon from Wessex League outfit Poole Town in October.

The Robins have the option to offer a further year to Austin's current deal, which runs until the end of the season, but manager Danny Wilson has been so impressed that he has been prepared to offer a two-year extension to the young frontman.

"He's deserved it and earned that contract himself," Wilson told The Swindon Advertiser.

"You can't argue with what Charlie's contribution has been - it's been fantastic and he has deserved the rewards.

"It's surprised everybody in a nice way. We always thought he had the ability but we weren't sure whether he could sustain it over a period of time. But he's shown that he can."

And Austin confirmed the new contract, admitting: "Hopefully it all goes through on Monday and then we can just concentrate on the second half of the season and getting Swindon in the play-offs.

"I've come in, worked hard and done my best, but the rest of the boys have been brilliant and such a great help to me since I came here."

See no reason why he can't. How many natural finishers can you think of that are English, there ain't many

Lambert   Southampton   20
Beckford   Leeds United   18
Holt   Norwich   17
Barnard   Southampton   15
Paynter   Swindon   14
Rhodes   Huddersfield   13
Burton   Charlton   12
Forster   Brighton   12
Martin   Norwich   12
Easter   Franchise   11
Jackson   Gillingham   11
Lisbie   Colchester   11
Austin   Swindon   10
Bailey   Charlton   10
Hoolahan   Norwich   10

Makes good reading

Yep 10 in 14 appearances is brilliant...............Morrison at Millwall has done the same although he came from a higher non lg level.

Ref Poole Town have you played at Brock yet...going along to one soon.

England's 3 strikers for the U 21 Euros last summer were Agbonlahor, Walcott, and Fraizer Campbell as back up....Charlie has a bit of a way to go before he can be thought of in those terms.

Incidentally, we were mullered by the Hun, who had a striker, whose name escapes me, who played in lower league Kraut fussball.

Good news for us and Mr Austin. He must be permanently on cloud 9 at the moment, a few months ago he was playing for Poole Town and now he can't stop scoring in League One and has a 3 year contract to go with it.

I recall someone saying our contracts were more performance orientated under Fitton, anyone know the details?
