Title: Redundancy
Post by: Whits on Monday, June 6, 2005, 18:03:57
anyone know much about my rights if i've been at my job for a year. My company called a meeting this morning and said a few will be in for the chop, is it worth me trying to get 2-3 months pay off and having a cracking summer

Unfortunately Whits, if you've been there less than two years they don't have to give you anything, I went through it 5 years ago too, I'd been there 20 months, but fortunately the company were very good, I got 3 months pay.  Many companies will try to do something for you.

Any less than 2 years service and they don't have to pay you. By law, the redundancy money is crap, but usually they sort it out through company policy, so you should get something. Life's a shitter aint it?

Mate of min worked in admin job for a pharmaceutical company when he got the chop but they agreed to pay for training courses for all those that left to re-train.

He took a fucking pilots course which cost them an absolute fucking bomb but they had agreed to it in a contract that they could choose what they want or take a fairly big fat wedge pay-off.  They never thought anyone would take the training option.

If you get dosh whits go travelling again.

In the shorter term you could opt for shares in IBM. They're making chips in x-box 360, ps3, and nintendo whatsitcalled. Guarenteed sales boost, although the market may have already responded to this information.

Fucking hell I'm talking bollocks, gonna take a nap
