Title: Oxford Mid-season self implosion Part 53423423342
Post by: STFC_Gazza on Monday, January 18, 2010, 12:44:47
Amongst all our excitement this year, Once again Oxford have got to December top of the league and have now started dropping down the table (2nd but it will get worse). The Pox lost 1-0 to Tamworth in their screwfix 10th division south match on the weekend. Ok I know the Pox have 2 games in hand but...

....as a side note would love to see Oxford come back up so we can play them again but will be a while before they are in the Championship (fingers crossed, tempting fate etc)

I encourage most forms of mocking when it comes to Oxford United. But most of that was lame.

Yes...they do.  And a game in hand at that end of the table is worth 3 points, more often than not.  I think Gaz was being a little hasty in predicting their demise.

Tamworth obviously didn't read that particular script ;)

Their fans were rattling on about them having such a good home record and having 3 home games in hand the other day. Apparently it was impossible for them to lose at home and they would be top again once those 3 games had been won. Well 1 of them has been played and they haven't picked up a point. So much for that.

Tamworth hadn't scored in their last 6 games...until Saturday.

Theyve not really imploded though have they?

They lost one game. Theyll still win that league anyway

I'm in Germany! Seeing some schools at doing a little teaching out here. Have brought my England shirt along of course.

The implosion didn't last long. One game in total. We won 4-0 away to Grays soon after the home defeat which I went to. Tamworth defended very well, got a very lucky goal due to our otherwise faultless 'keepers mistake, and ran themselves into the ground. To quote their manager "This was their cup final."

Grays are piss poor and have just signed 8 or 9 players so have an unsettled side. But it was a good away win and a perfect time for us to play them, to get our confidence back.

As for the rest of the season I remain cautiously optimistic regarding our promotion position. It's way too early to call so I just hope we can hang onto a top two spot, and hopefully win the league, though history has taught me not to bank on anything.

I see our favourite cousins have signed the guy from Shameless to spruce up their midfield:

Takes all sorts, I suppose.

How many seasons have the scum been non league for now?  Is this their third or fourth season?

It really couldn't of happened to a nicer club.

It must be their fourth. They went down to the Conference the same time as we went down to L2.

Shame.

I encourage all Town fans to go on to the Poxford forums and remind them of their recurring New Year nightmare.

I remember in their first season in the pub league when 'the invincibles' started to squander their 17 point lead and the eventual winnersof the League were Dagenahm & Redridge. My thread on a Poxford forum entitled 'What's that coming over the hill - it's the Daggers, it's the Daggers' didn't go down very well at all!

Saw an Oxford fan in Early Learning yesterday, shirt on and all.

I wiped the toys before my kids touched them though.

This should never happen to a truly big club.  I hope they have to meet Luton in the play offs. i fancy going if I could sit with the Luton fans.
