I would, but I have kind off stolen somebody else's account and it shows their personal details (name and address). It'd be wrong of me to give that information out.

Quality free kick from Sheeham, very nearly a goal. JFL was class one miinute and scary bad the next, another excellent cross for the equaliser though.

JPM had another cracker and yet another goal for Charlie.

10 for the season for Billy as well, if he keeps it up after christmas we could be looking at 20 goals for the season which is a fantastic return.

LJF was ok first half but woefully bad second half. Good job Lucas was on his game. LJF lost Dickinson far too many times when he came on.

I said to Fred that O'Brien did more in today's game than MacNamee did in all games he'd played this season. Definitely not sorry to see MacNamee go now.

Forster was a cunt as always and should've been booked for his celebration.

Not sure if we really deserved the win. Paynters penalty looked a bit soft, and it looked like they could have had one at the end. They also had a fair bit of the ball.

That said we created just as much as they did despite the midfield being a bit below par.

All in all who cares. 3 points are 3 points. Get in!

Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Official Matchday Thread
Post by: DiV on Saturday, December 19, 2009, 17:42:08
COME ON YOU REDS!!!

Bounced back from Rovers with a win.

Dont think we played well to be honest. Brighton probably had the better of the opening 15 minutes then we and Alan O'Brien came into it a bit more.

Our penalty looked very harsh from where I was sat and thought Brightons shout for Greers handball was more worthy of a penalty.

We went 1-0 and I was dreading Brez saving the penalty. Brighton hit back, surprise surprise it was Nicky Forster.

After that again, it seemed like Brighton had alot of the ball. They didnt play like id image a Gus Poyet team to play. Long balls, kicking, shirt pullling, climbing, pushing.

We went and got another goal, that man CHALRIE FUCKING AUSTIN then it was Brighton pressuring us.

Thought it would be 2-2 after Greers slip (well, when he got pushed over but the linesman left it) someone, cant remember who shot at the open goal but Lucas saved it. We have a clear penalty turned away clearest shout out the 3. The Brighton player stood behind Billy Paynter just pushed him over. If he hadnt given us the first one...

Liam Dickinson got through and missed a sitter I would have tucked away, he really was quite shite. How much did you pay for him?

Brighton pressed and looked dangerous, we looked nervous and shakey.

Did we deserve to the win? probably not but Brighton can fuck off because we are more than owed undeserved points against Brighton.

Good away following.

Dissapointed Adam Virgo didnt play a part in their defeat. Hope they get relegated and rot in the bottom tier and die a slow painful death with Falmer burning down, cunts, cunts, cunts, cunts, cunts

I thought a draw would have been a fair result. But to quote every football manager who has ever lived, the sign of a good team is those that can win playing poorly.

Both our fullbacks looked poor. I'll let sheehan off because he was on the wrong side of the pitch, but JFL is rubbish i'm afraid. Yes he can tackle and he's alright going forward, but he has no idea where he is half the time, let alone the bloke he's supposed to be marking. Caught out twice today by simple balls over the top that their bloke should really have scored from.

Greer didn't have the best of games, hopefully a blip.

Billy Paynter is built like a brick shithouse. He needs to start acting like one, instead of going down the minute someone breathes on him.

Good to see Brez get a decent reception, strange to see him catch so many today instead of punch/flap. Lucas had his best game that i've seen him play. Supoibe.

Austin, JPM, Cuthbert and Douglas were all very very good.

I think we've bought the wrong Alan o'brien.

Billy Paynter is built like a brick shithouse. He needs to start acting like one, instead of going down the minute someone breathes on him.

I thought Paynter did really well today, he was getting battered by their centre backs every chance they got, his hold up play was good and thought he put himself about a bit actually.

He puts himself about then throws himself on the floor trying to win free-kicks. Don't want to see that in the modern game

Billy Paynters physical side to his game has come on loads this season, he got battered by centre backs last year but he gives as good as he gets this year.

...but more importantly did you get my text sam, you know I take these things seriously.

Game was pretty devoid of action, until the pen (definite penalty, as I could see the blatant push on Paynter 80 yards away), and then it livened up.

Without Brez and the woodwork, we could've had 4 by half time. They scored with their first effort, with the cross in perfect for that cunt Forster to score, and he should've got booked.

The second half it was even for the first ten, with us stating to dominate, and the ball for Charlie to score was inch perfect and he buried it. We then continued to dominate, and a third looked likely. El-Abd tried to get Paynter sent off, despite holding on to him for ten seconds, Paynter pushed him away and he collapsed to the floor like he's been shot. How El'Abd didn't get booked for holding as we got the free kick is beyond me.

The last 15 minutes we were in holding on as JFL tried to put through Dickinson twice. And the Brighton player who took a dive towards the end after deciding to go over Sheehan's leg, should be put forward for the Olympic diving team.

At the end it is 3 points, and we're in the top 6.

For me Paynter MoM, with JPM not far behind...and Forster's still an annoying cunt.

My personal highlight of the game was when Austin ran into the pitch covers :)

Pleased to see O'Brien grow into the game. I guess he came off because he was gassed, and not because he was injured?

His Swindon Town career has now begun.

O'Brien did get into the game more. I think he put it out of touch with his first touch.

Good to see a winger running at players, no step overs, pure pace.

fingers crossed he gets better 'n all

Was another good game today. Much like Orient Brigton looked to play some good football but didn't really create a huge amount of chances. I thought we started the game very poorly. Passing wasn't there and it was all long ball up to Austin and Paynter. We backed off them and let them play.

Once we got the ball down and got into the game we were a real threat. O'Brien put some good balls into the box which perhaps a few of could have had a better result from Billy and Charlie. Didn't have the best view of the penalty so will look at the highlights and judge then. Brez made some good saves and it could have been 3-0 before Brighton got their goal. We backed off and let them play again and it was a good bit of quality from their winger to get the equaliser.

Thought that if we went out in the 2nd and stepped up a gear then the game would be there for the taking and I was right. We came out and started slowly again but once we got going we played some fantastic stuff. The 2nd goal was a brilliant move and great ball from JP to find Austin. Great stuff. Then we sat back and invited them to get a goal. Not what I like to see us do and when we did break we looked dangerous it was just a shame that we didn't get the men forward more often.

Did we deserve to win today? On the balance of play probably not and on another day it would have been 2-2 or 2-1 to Brighton or 3 or 4 goals for us. Just one of those games. I think it evens itself out and we'v had a few games back in September where we should have won but only drew.

Back in the top 6! Happy days. Really hope we can go to Charlton and get a point now. As for Brighton I think they'll be OK. Not a bad side they just need to get a win or 2 to get the confidence up.

Brighton looked a decent enough side to me, but something clearly isn't right there.

I think they should sack their manager and get a new one in.

I thought a draw would have been a fair result. But to quote every football manager who has ever lived, the sign of a good team is those that can win playing poorly.

Greer didn't have the best of games, hopefully a blip.

Billy Paynter is built like a brick shithouse. Austin, JPM, Cuthbert and Douglas were all very very good.

Agree with most of that, but Greer was fucking awful.  Totally missed the ball in the first half in the penalty area, could easily have had a pen against him for the handball, gave away a needless freekick on the edge of the box and that's just in the first half!  Second half him and Lescs did their best to gift Brighton something, let's hope he is having a mid-season blip, we need him at his best, commanding.  Cuthbert will be the buy of the season.

Greer was alright but had his scary moments. Remember that Cuthbert has been very good this season and probably makes Greer look average. When you compare Cuthbert/Greer to Ifil/Aljofree you soon realise it's not all that bad at all.

I think today's game was a classic example of the difference a year makes. We would have lost this last season. The gayboys were a dirty, whinging bunch of cheating cunts - virtually all made from the same mould of arch gayboy Forster. The referee was a complete cock in the 2nd half where decsisions seemed to be made completely at random. How the hell we didn't get a penatly for yet another shove on Paynter I'll never know. I thought their goal was offside and Forster should have been booked - what a wanker and not for the first time.
Paynter was MOM for me and what a great bit of football from Town for Charlie's goal - how well did he take it. Oh and thank God for Lucas. Cuthbert was also brilliant. Greer was below par and JFL was his usual mix fo great and dogshit.
Glad to get the 3 points and we're in a great position in the league.

Not sure what is up with JFL, one moment he's class and then he just goes to sleep. Over the course of today's game he was good but then at the end he fucks up twice which nearly cost us dearly. Wonder if its losing concentration or a lack of confidence, I noticed Lucas and Greer giving him encouragement after one of the fuck ups so maybe its something they're aware of and working on.

Amankwaah going off highlighted our lack of options in defence, which are basically zero. With Kennedy injured, having Morrison out on loan seems strange to say the least. Another strange subs bench, with two wingers, two forwards yet only the one defender.

The last 15 minutes were a real worry, its the first time I've seen us collapse like that this season - it was like a replay of all those games last season when we blew it towards the end. We seemed to be sitting far too deep and encouraging Brighton to push up, rather than continuing the way we had been playing.

I think there are two ways to look at it. Like you, I thought that it resembled the way we played under Malpas, where a one goal lead never looked secure. On the other hand, Brighton threw absolutely everything at us and we nearly caught them out on the break 2 or 3 times because they committed so many players forward. If it hadn't been for a couple of slips from JFL then Brighton wouldn't have actually created much in that late spell despite all the pressure they put on us.

Of course, Charlie keeps up his record of every time he scores...we win.
And (damn near) every time he starts he scores :D

We played well in parts today, as did Brighton, we could have gone in 2 up at the break if it hadn't been for a couple of wonder saves from Brez and then it would have been a very different game. Yeah, we ended up grinding it out, but I'll take that. We don't normally get much against Brighton, and it's been a while since we've been a team who are actually capable of grinding out a result. And we're back up to 6th, going into Christmas in the play-off places is well beyond what I'd predicted at the start of the season and we're generally playing well and putting good runs together. Overall I'm happy with that. I'd rather be a Town fan than a Liverpool fan tonight :)

Oh, and the ref was a cock.

it was a grind of a match, but no less enjoyable as we won. It seemed that we went into a panic at the end and Greer is having a crisis of confidence. However, Austin is a star and he need Paynter next to him who does so much work; JP is manic this season and proving his worth, I'd sign Sheehan and even Ferry if I was running things. What was it with Lecs giving the DRS the bird? (or did I imagine it?)

We lost the impetus going forward when O'Brien came off. Not sure why Wilson did that as he didn't look to be blowing out of his arse, or suffering with an injury.

Brighton caused us problems all afternoon because they are a decent side. If Poyet takes them down this season he'll be a candidtate for cunt of the year. They are way better than relegation candidates.

Forster is a cunt. His big-time celebration in front of the town end warranted someone taking the cunt out. An experienced player like him should know better. All the previous goading from the crowd doesn't justify trying to wind them up collectively like that after scoring a goal. If it's someone like Wayne Rooney doing it, fair play. But Nicky Fucking Forster?? Cunt.

Thought the lads did OK comming off the back of last weeks shite performance at Wovers. 3 points is 3 points.

Our league position is fucking dreamland territory going into Christmas. Hope we're roughly the same come the start of new year.

I enjoyed that to a certain extent yesterday. For far too long as a town fan i have been to games like this that in fairness could of gone either way but we just don't get the win.

We seem to have a bit of bite about us this year, last year if we went ahead you njust knew that once the other team hit back we were in for a tough final period and would most likely fold.I don't get that impression this year.

Brighton are not a bad team either and i don't think they will go down and the way they put us under the cosh in the last 15 mins was only something i would expect us to do if we were -1 down.

Douglas Jpm were good but for me i honestly thought that was probably as good as i have seen Paynter play for us.

Only downside for me was Greer which i'm not overly concerned about as we know he is class and will get his form back. Maybe the lack of defensive competition has made a few complacent? Sort the left hand side out in january and i think we can maintain this form. On a final note maybe a right back in january wouldn't go a miss as we lost alot yesterday when Amankawaah shit himself.

How far is Nathan Thompson from the 1st team? We got away with Sheehan at right back but it wasn't ideal. Still a bit surprised that Wilson didn't move Cuthbert to right back and JFL to the centre as that seemed the logical choice.

Though as I said before, only having one defender on the bench when you're allowed 7 subs is just plain stupid.

If Forster played for us, you'd love him.

I thought we made heavy weather of things yesterday. We looked scrappy for a lot of the game and it's the first time that I've seen Ferry look a bit lost. Fortunately the spine of the team held up. Lucas especially was very strong.

O'Brien looked off the pace in terms of positioning, passing and tracking back, but he has been out for a while and will take a few games to warm up. With Ferry and O'Brien off the boil, JD and JPM had to carry them, but they worked hard and we got away with it.

JD is awesome. Billy P looked up for a scrap (in a good way) and Austin is a natural.

We need more cover in defence. Lesc terrifies me and Sheehan looked unhappy on the right, but did a job.

I normally stand up for refs but they seem to be getting more and more inconsistent recently.

Bookings for goal celebrations is one of the worst areas, yet should be one of the simplest. Red cards for fouls on players through on goal is the other, the refs just seem to toss a coin to decide whether they should go or not.

I enjoyed the game.

Was very impressed with David Lucas, the defence must feel so confident with this guy in goal, shot stopping, reflexes and coming for crosses all excellent. And his kicking is decent as well which makes a change for a Town goalkeeper!!

Defencively, I thought Greer looked a little shaky in the second half. Left and Right backs are a problem, clearly as LFJ doesn''t seem to have the ability to concentrate. Sheehan has a great left peg but was clearly not confortable on the right.

Centre midfield is sorted. Douglas goes about his work quietly but very effectively. I like Ferry as well but its a shame he isn't just a touch taller so that he could challenge in the air when it gets scrappy in midfield. O'Brien showed glimpses but his control and touch are very heavy, however he is a whippet and put over some dangerous crosses. JPM was excellent, such a change in this guy.

Up front I thought Paynter looked hungry, he took players on and played some excellent passes, the one in the second half which he timed to perfection sending JPM in behind the defence springs to mind. Austin is full of energy, you would not know that he came from Non-League. Not just a finisher, wins his fair share of headers which he flicks on well and plays intelligently. Took his chance very well.

Brighton I thought were a decent side. They looked to play the ball out from the back and had Dickinson not been totally wasteful would have gone away with a point. Still a good 3 points and onto Charlton now!

I see Abdou got dubiously sent off for Millwall yesterday ... The cunt can have no complaints, the manner in which he got Douglas sent off back in october shows what goes around comes around :)

Nope, Millwall have got that red card rescinded.

Only difference between Abdou and Douglas challenges was that Abdou stayed on the floor rolling round like a prat, whereas the Charlton player got on with it.
