Four of my mates get Peugeot 106s as their first car a year ago. Obviously the first car of choice.

When's your test Dave?

The car was full so I jumped in the boot.  So they decided that it would be fun to put garage music on very loud.  Not good for the eardrums :old:

I'm proper old skool.  I listen to cassettes in my car that I recorded on my stereo because I haven't got around to sorting out a CD player for it yet
I get pissed off big time when there are slow drivers in front of me.  I would overtake them but I don't have the bottle because I've heard too many storires about accidents.  I'd probably estimate that about 80% of my mates  have had either a minor or a fatal accident.  Just makes you think twice before you do anything too risky

Title: I've got my first car

I've got about 20 cassette's in my car and I only ever listen to two, one is The Wedding Present and the other is a compilation Amir did for me. My car rattles because of said tapes.

I don't overtake people much either, it's pretty difficult in a 1.1 Clio so I just hope they turn off :/

No accidents though, although I did back into someone's car.

I want a CD player, but there isn't really a lot of point as I'm only going to be driving for another 3/4 months then I'm off to you-knee \o/

Did a mate(s) really die? That's a sad story if ever I heard one

Title: I've got my first car
Post by: Rossi on Saturday, June 4, 2005, 16:46:01
One person that I knew, but not really a mate (year older than me) died as a passenger a couple of weeks ago.  The same night, one of my quite close mates killed himself and his girlfriend when the car span off and hit a tree.  Really shocked me when I first found out, and I've been driving a lot more cautiously since

Might sound harsh but have little sympathy for teenager drivers wrapping themselves around a tree, but I do feel for the parents and passengers if they're involved - it's a crap way to die, simply because someone was too fecking stoopid....

I'm pretty adept in overtaking, but then I drive frequently on backroads to Horsham were a lot of old people pootle along at 25-30mph when the road is easily taken at 60 so I need to be.  I don't speed though, 3 more points and I'm out!  (You are only allowed 6 points till you have been driving for two years, which for me will be in November).

106 is a nice choice for first car, easy to maintain and you can run one cheaply!

I've got a 106. It's my 2nd car and it's ace. It's a Zest and can pootle along very nicely, I don't generally drive very fast at all but I've taken her to 110 mph on the M1 with 2 fat passengers. Was VERY fast. I've even brought it over here for some Italian loving, though the Italians don't respect her as much as they should.

I own a '53 plate Corsa SXI owned from new, RRP 10.5K.  Hardly falling apart.  I've raced her but I openly admit to being a stupid cunt at times.  I've also driven the poor dear drunk, but I can be a dickhead at times.  I'd never contemplate doing such a thing intentionally, but it was forced upon me - was staying over but friend fell off a 10 ft rope swing and need racing to hospital - 999 refused to answer request as busy and accident not severe enough!

Where I live the local A+E had just been closed when this incident happened, and the next nearest A+E found itself inundated and unable to cope.  Ambulance response time would have likely been over an hour, and we were in a fairly remote forest.

But yes, with my friend bleeding profusely, going into shock, I should have waited for the bus....

Let me make this simple for you.

YOU WERE DRUNK.
YOU ENDANGERED NOT ONLY YOUR LIFE, BUT YOUR MATE'S LIFE AS WELL AS ANYONE UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE IN THE VICINITY OF YOUR CAR WHILST BEING DRIVEN BY A DRINK DRIVER.

Stop making excuses for what you did, you fucking idiot.

I'm not gonna convince you people, but simply put, i'm a gayer
Had you been in the situation there was very little options.  I was drunk but not hammered, but would never condone that in a normal situation.  I was bloody scared because my friend was going spastic, literally  :|

I'm a fucking angel on the roads compared to a lot of people of my agegroup, especially around here.

getting back on topic,

i still have my first car, had it 3 years now i think. an M reg fiesta which cost me £1350.

it's utter shit. it's got a fault but the fault cannot be identified until the car packs up competely, i've had about 5 different mechanics/garages/friends look at it and they all say the same. i wouldn't mind so much if it was consistently shit, but it could break down after 5mins or 5 hours of driving, at 5mph or 90mph.

i need to get down to cornwall after glasto and i'll be chancing it in my car, may need to sleep in it if i break down as it needs a bit of rest after breakage.

How exactly does it packup?  If you give me exact symptoms I can always pass on info to a mate of mine who's granddad is a genius Ford mechanic.

(The mate drives a Y reg (that's a 22 yr old) Mark 2(?) Ford Escort and keeps it healthy and running on the road, so he knows what he's doing!!)

it packs up by juddering, then slowing to a stop. then when you turn the key it's as though no petrol is getting through as it won't start and sounds 'dry'. sometimes all it takes is a swift ignition movement, or a few pumps on the gas, but once it took 12 hours to work again.

an aa man thought it was the thing that feeds the fuel in. the garage couldn't say it was definitely that and didn't want to charge me (for once) £300 for a part which might not even fix the problem. the genius bloke near my nan told me it woulnd't be possible to pin it down as, with modern cars, there is so much computer stuff etc. that it could be more or less anything. another mechanic said a £300 service would fix it, but it didn't.
