I just had a crash, front bumper has completely come off, front right light is smashed. Lights and indicators still work, if I display the number plate in my window can I still drive it? It seems to go fine, just made it home.

mmmmm. dunno the answer without doing a bit of research but,as it would fail an mot test miserably you need to get it sorted really.also a copper might see it as non roadworthy and throw the book at you.

It's illegal to display a number plate in the front windscreen,it must be on the front of the car and visable.
 

I had the same problem a few years ago, drove it for a couple of weeks and parked right outside the police station everyday, had no problem.

Not really sure of the legality mind.

I've also driven round with a smashed light and bumper before. Technically it's illegal because the smashed light makes the car un-roadworthy.

The bus it is then.

 I once got busted for having a defective rear light bulb, taken to court and fined 2 GBP.

Surely the bloke carrying the lantern was still visible though Reg ?

not road legal - defective headlight is defective (even during daylight hours when you don't need it)  The acid test is whether or not it would pass the MOT in it's current condition and the light, coupled with the missing bumper would be a big fat no!
