Title: Hoping for a Yeovil lose
Post by: Maguire11 on Friday, November 6, 2009, 21:06:23
only so we may be able to play the scum, i sense the rivalary is dieing between both sets of fans, i know we still hate them and they still hate us, but it is no where near as intense as when Turbo was beating them 2-0 at the Manor!

but we still got to avoid a banana skin, 2 non-league first round knock outs will not be nice  ;)

Yeh definatley, that would be quality beat the scum and then get a money spinning tie in the 3rd round would make for a great cup run

Talking of local teams. Doesn't look like Rovers if we get through:

Bristol Rovers 0-3 Southampton: Antonio (70)

I don't give a crap about Rovers. Let's face it we all want Oxford in round 2.

Yes, and City in round 3, Reading in Round 4 and a big club away in round 5 please.

There's always next season.

What Herthab said.

I see 14 of their lot are up for violent disorder after a ruckus in a Cheltenham pub. Apparently they were on the way to Kettering or something and the game got called off, bit of a detour that

I really couldn't give a shit about the result as long as we get Oxford in round 2.

Title: Re: Hoping for a Yeovil lose

Surely you do care about the result then - we are less likely to draw Oxford in round 2 if we get beat and are not in round 2.

It was November 2002 if I remember correctly, so 7 years.  Far too long.

good result that.

was there any other shocks? i havent checked the results yet

Title: Re: Hoping for a Yeovil lose
Post by: oxford_fan on Saturday, November 7, 2009, 21:47:21
Yep quite a few shocks:

shrews 0-1 staines
gimsby 0-2 bath
hartlepool 0-1 kettering
york 3-2 crewe

gateshead managed a draw with brentford too.

there are only 40 balls in the pot for the draw, there's a definite chance for a derby. if we don't get you lot, i'd like norwich. and if not that, then any shit team at home.

Shit draw. Think we'll lose it as well.

Strangely we've never played Wrexham in the cup...approx 25 years since we've won there, and we've had some decent sides come unstuck like the 95/96 side and more recently the end to Wise's 6 game opening win run.  The only crumb is that our away form is reasonable.

There are quite a few dull looking ties like O*frod v Barrow, it may be a bit clearer after replays, I'd be surprised if it was selected.

Very happy with our dull draw, home to a not so good team we know all about. A very good chance of being in the hat for the potentially lucrative Third Round.

I would expect you to win at Wrexham, they are very inconsistent under Saunders.

We did have a tidy side that season, but still managed to lose at home to them.

Nah, one good thing is that Wrexham don't actually sound like a non league side.

Unlike Kettering, Tooting and Mitcham, Dagenham, Stevenage and Histon.

The 2nd round of the Cup shouldn't be 'exciting' for a club like us.  It's a hurdle to jump so we can make the 3rd round...and that's where it starts getting interesting.

So I'm quite happy with the draw.  Yes, we could go out.  But we shouldn't.  If our lot have any backbone at all, we will beat Wrexham and then start looking to the next stages.  We have a shocking record in the Cup this decade, and that makes us nervous of any tie as fans.  But we shouldn't be.  This is very winnable.  Let's get this one out of the way and then look forward to some matches that will get the buzz back at the club.

Went there in 83-84 and 85-86 we won both games 1-0 and 3-0 Macari and Mayes scoring in one game is all I remember, that and that its a very unfriendly and unwelcoming place.

Been there 4 times. Never seen us win. 3 losses and a draw. 2 of those sides really should have been good enough to win as well.

Remmember a draw would still be a decent result up there. If we cant beat them in a replay at the CG we need shooting.

Its the sort of ground where we have played a lot in recent years. Fammiliar surroundings. Big ground with a small crowd shouldnt be too intimidating. Can be quite windy up there. We dont have a good record, but it is the first ever FA Cup meeting. Confident we can get something out of it providing we dont get any more injuries/suspensions between now and then.

Who was our player who hit a cracking 40 yard goal a few years back (at their place). I'm sure it was towards the Town fans. Gurney scored a good goal at home to them about six years ago.

Haha. I was on that train too. Think it was 77/78. I've never seen Town fans behave so badly, and that was apart from the train being trashed. Utter chaos. Nevertheless, I'm also pretty sure it was a cup match. Good ground though, lots of nearby free parking and plenty of wandering free-range lamb chops for those of us who have a freezer.

Some of the oxford fans were really wanting us aswell in the draw, but they are confident that they can get through. They reckon they haven't been in the third round for yonks. Wrexham are doing quite well, and are a tough team to beat apparently despite their league position.

Yeah I'm in Bronllys (Brecon area) today and my fuel economy must be something like 17 miles to the gallon.

A49 would be quickest route probably, would also save about 40 miles off the journey. I don't even know why I'm considering it.

Iffy beat me to it. We got Arsenal at Highbury in the third round after you, great day out.
