Title: Touch typing.
Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, November 2, 2009, 20:01:39
So.

I used to think that I was a bit good at typing.

Recently however, my keyboard has become a tad worn and some letters are rubbing off. I know that I can just stop being a lazy cunt and buy a new keyboard but that ain't the point.

Anyway. The absence of the "W" "E" "I" and "O" is no biggie, as with not really having an: "A" "S" "G" but the worst are c, v, m, n and m

To cut a long one short, it ain't that easy. Can you touch type without seeing the letters first?

I will buy a new keyboard soon

At some point over the last couple of years I've started touch typing by accident. I didn't realise I was doing it at first until someone commented on it as I was just doing it automatically without thinking about it.

There's touch typing and there's typing without looking. The 2 are somewhat different aren't they? I mean my sister is an unbelievable typist and she's a professional touch typist. You know fingers on the ASDF and JKL thing, shit loads of words per minute and watches the screen, not the keyboard.

I believe i can type fast and accurately without looking, but i primarily use a only 3 or 4 fingers and will allow my hands/fingers to cross to the other side of the keyboard, so therefore i don't consider it touch typing.

I worked in print in my early 20s as a typesetter on a range of machines - Monotype, Photon, Linoterm and Linotron. Pretty fast and accurate in my younger days.

My secretary types at 100 touch typeing whilst listing to my dictation. She is so quick she often actully has to type slower than the speed at which I talk. Also she does types maybe 40-50 letters a day with only maybe two or three mistakes. Fucking brillaint god knows how she does it but when I watch her type I kid you not it looks like superman typing her hands file across the keyboard!

Do you use a dictaphone GFM ?  I prefer to use my fingers.
