Title: Sky HD Box problems
Post by: tans on Monday, November 2, 2009, 09:00:10
I have just received the new epg on my sky+hd box, and since then ive been encountering a problem. Sometimes when i select an hd channel, the screen just goes green, you can hear the sound though. The only way to reset it is unplug the box and turn it on again. As ususal, sky customer service is something to be desired. Has anyone else had a similar problem to this?

The box is a samsung by the way

not had this before. have you tried doing a format of the system?

also turn off the little video on the channel selector. apparently this causes issues with lip sync etc. i know thats not what your encountering but you never know

funnily enough, if i play the sound through my surround system the words come out about a second after they have spoke.

i would rather not format box as i dont want to lose all the stuff i have saved on it

Are you connected via HDMI - I assume you must be since only the Thomson have component outs and they got the new EPG ages ago

Sorry dude, no suggestions other than connect direct to see if it helps (shouldn't make a difference).

And also is it a particular HD channel that causes the issue or any HD channel? The issues I pointed out seem to relate to ESPN.

i use it for tidiness, as one of the inputs is on the front of the tv and it looks shit with the cable

ah see. maybe you should connect Sky hd straight into the TV. not sure how much picture quality (if any) you may lose with the HDMi box. the use the box for the other two

None.

I'd think this is a bug with the Samsung. I guess all you can do is keep badgering Sky CS.

I'd do a forced updated (turn off at wall, hold backup, turn on again). The OS could've got corrupted and therefore be causing a glitch.

As for your lip-sync issues with the surround sound, you need to set the delay in the settings menu. It's just because of the time it takes your surround sound system to process and then output the sound from the Sky box is slightly longer than the picture.

Pace were always appalling until about 2 years ago, now their reliability is much better than any of the other options out there.

Had no probs at all with our Pace Digibox in near 2 years, no random lock ups or overheating at all, but we dont have the new EPG here yet (had the new cards about 6 months though already)

only thing i will say about the new EPG is HD quality goes downhill. not as sharp as the old EPG

Ooooo how do I do a forced update? is that in the hidden menu under services where the sytem set up is?

Are Sky rolling out the new EPG by make and model of the box rather than geographically then?

switch the power off at plug
hold backup
whilst holding back up switch the power back on at the plug
keep holding back up till all the lights flash and you get a black screen saying update in progress

Cool cheers, I will give that a go, will it affect the programs currently saved on the disk? does it in effect do a system full reset and format?

No, just updates the EPG. No planner data is lost.
