Title: Favourite song from 1983.
Post by: herthab on Thursday, October 29, 2009, 15:08:32
Has to be Boxerbeat, by Jo-boxers.

How they never became a worldwide success amazes me.

I'm not sure it was my favourite, but Big Country were a band I rated back then.

Shame about Adamson waste of a talent.

The Smiths - This Charming Man. The original doesn't seem to be on youtube though. Looking at the top singles from 1983, it wasn't the best year for music to be honest.

Steppin Out - Joe Jackson

or failing that

Pass the Dutchie - Musical Yoof.

83 was an ace year for music :D

Every Jam single ever released was in the charts at some point in January 1983 iirc. Didn't they re-release them all when they announced the split? I've got them somewhere.

Does that count or is it cheating?

Otherwise this was still a fucking ace year. I turned 16 and left school and the charts contained stuff like:

Echo & The Bunnymen - The Cutter and Never Stop
Fun Boy Three - Tunnel Of Love and Our Lips Are Sealed
Orange Juice - Rip It Up
New Order - Blue Monday and Confusion
Dexy's Midnight Runners - The Celtic Soul Brothers
Imposter - Pills And Soap
Elvis Costello - Everyday I Write The Book
Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra - Double Dutch (which I'd almost forgotten about and is FUCKING ACE)
Madness - Wings Of A Dove
Aztec Camera - Oblivious
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
Smiths - This Charming Man
Icicle Works - Love Is A Wonderful Colour
Pretenders - 2000 Miles

Not to mention all the singles off Bowie's Let's Dance

Ok it also brought us a shit load of Tracey Ullman singles and Black Lace's Superman but it's swings and roundabouts ain't it

I'm going for this because the bassline is now lodged in my brain and because Trevor Horn is a cunting genius:

I was 5 in 1983 so can vaguely recall anything, but browsing the Top 100 of the year, i'd have to go with Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams. Amazing synths and that innit. No video, every cunt knows it.

Tracey Ullman covered Kirsty McColl, the originals are pretty good.

Billie Jean by Michael Jackson was notable during that year, but who could forget the Donna Summer classic, She Works Hard for the Money.

I still sort of like it. Probably childhood memories though or something. I certainly remember listening to it once, loud, in my Dad's mate's Sky Blue Renault Fuego (that i always dreamed of owning) especially with his ace after market mega stereo with graphic equaliser.

On a music related note. I want to know what this is? Anyone? It sounds like, or reminds me of some Timbaland crap.
