Title: Flash Forward Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 12:58:22 Anyone been watching this? caught up last night on five on demand. Seems pretty good but am slightly worried it might go down that Lost avenue of fucking stupidity and endless drivel. Fingers crossed.

Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 13:10:38 Yep, I've been watching.
I too hope it's not like Lost and keeps dragging and dragging. I know it's Sci-Fi and it's all make believe, but the one bit I don't get is Benford's flashforward. He "sees" his Mosaic wall of all his leads in the investigation, so starts following them up as lines of enquiry e.g. he believes that in the future 6 months he follows up these lines of enquiry. But if the future is pre-determined i.e. fate (as the show wants us to believe), then Benford has/will never actually found any evidence to lead him to these people, it's always been pre-determined that he just pictured the future investigation, so how the fuck does he know they're involved at all? People probably won't understand that last paragraph, but meh :) Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 13:16:16 There are very few series that I get caught up in, but this is an exception...I've been pretty hooked since the start. As I said a few weeks ago in another thread, you can pick holes in sci-fi very easily if you want to. Flash Forward is not the most polished production I've seen and there are some glaring inconsistencies, but it's a good story and I'm enjoying it for what it is.
Possibly the first time I've ever sat down to watch something on Channel 5 as well. Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 13:23:15 I know it's Sci-Fi and it's all make believe, but the one bit I don't get is Benford's flashforward. That's one of the contradictions I was talking about. Another was the loser in episode 3 who saw himself in an immigration officer's uniform in his flash forward - so the following day he went and applied for a job as an immigration officer (in the pretty much certain knowledge he would get the job). Had there been no flash forward, he would not have applied for the job, would not have become an immigration officer...meaning the future would have been different. The flash forward itself essentially creates the future within the flash forward, which is a bit daft. I think you need to suspend your disbelief to enjoy it properly. Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: herthab on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 13:27:11 I think you need to remember it's all make believe.
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 15:47:46 I watched the first 2 then decided it would be like Lost, so thought i'd stop before i got frustrated or hooked. I'm trying to stop watching TV altogether.
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 21:05:49 I am mostly backwards..
For that reason...im out! Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 01:38:41 Seeing as ABC are hoping it will take over from Lost when it finishes in the New Year, there's bound to be loads of comparisons and no doubt similarities. Doesn't help having two of the actors from Lost in it so far.
You got to remember this is prime time TV in the USA, so analysing the detail doesn't really make sense as its an entertainment programme rather than a documentary. Besides its not the sci-fi angle that is bothering me, its the more day to day stuff - they're portraying the FBI (or whatever they are) as morons. The birds bit was the worst, that would have been picked up on immediately in real life, no need for a jolly to Germany. Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: jayohaitchenn on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 15:33:57 3 actors now. Charlie from Lost came in right at the end of episode 4.
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 15:55:35 I was counting Charlie and Penny, who is the third?
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 17:01:39 They're the only two aren't they?
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, October 22, 2009, 10:53:41 hmmm, I was sure there was another, maybe I dreamed it.
Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: jonny72 on Thursday, October 22, 2009, 11:12:48 hmmm, I was sure there was another, maybe I dreamed it. Maybe you passed out for 137 seconds and saw a vision of a future episode with a 3rd Lost character? Title: Re: Flash Forward Post by: pumbaa on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 21:09:15 I kind of half watched the first episode, liked what I saw, so set up Sky+ to record the whole series. Will have a monster catch-up session soon.
My poor Sky+ is having a nightmare keeping up with series at the moment. Fringe, Lie to Me and House being my three personal faves amongst many. I tend to record a bunch of episodes, and then watch half a dozen or so back-to-back over a couple of nights. |
