Title: Wednesday Fun
Post by: Doore on Thursday, October 1, 2009, 10:34:32
To pass the working day, I often like to have a go on the "random article" function on Wikipedia.  Today I have discovered that Japan won the gold medal in the 1962 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Prague, Odd Lirhus (born September 18, 1956) is a former Norwegian biathlete who won a silver medal in the relay at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, and
Gorilla Biscuits are a New York hardcore band consisting of Anthony Civarelli, Walter Schreifels, Arthur Smilios, Alex Brown and Luke Abbey.  That's a great name for a band.

I worked a couple of shows with gorilla biscuits a couple of years ago.  It was a bit scary from start to finish stage invasions and stage diving.  Big blokes in the crowd doing this as well.  It was a 900 capacity venue with 250 in it so there was an awful lot of gaps for them to fall into.  An d aan awful lot of blood on the floor by the end of the night.

I just read Jackie Chans sime auto-biography.

Knong Sang (Jackie Chan) was in his mothers womb for nearly a year. In the end he was born by c-section and nearly sold to the surgeon in order to pay the medical bill.

He studied in the arts of Chinese Opera from a youngish age, separated from his father who went to work in Australia, and then from his mother who followde his father. He was taught by what we'd concider a cruel 'master' while boarding at the school, before leaving to find work as a stuntman in the Hong Kong film industry.  He appeared briefly as an extra in Bruce Lee's 'Enter The Dragon'.

He tried to break through as a star in his own right but the film company tried to make him stick to traditional kung fu movies. His lucky break came following this failure, when he was loaned to a different film company where he was given the freedom to express himself through a more comedic role, his own idea. He broke several HK box office records and was eventually recalled by the original film maker. When his contract ended the original film maker alegedly tried to change Chan's contract buy out clause. Eventually the film maker sent the Triads after him!

His most deadly accident occured following just 15 feet. His head hit a rock and shattered his skull. No insurance company will cover a Jackie Chan film so all medical expenses are paid by the man himself.

His life story would make a great film one day, but I don't think he is too keen to tell it.
