Title: ODI series
Post by: DMR on Saturday, September 12, 2009, 13:15:30
Suprised no-ones mentioned it yet, even if it's a right anti-climax.

Looks like we're staring 4-0 in the face then, Binga's just produced an awesome spell. Absolute wheels, thank fuck they didn't pick him at the Oval.

Brett Lee bowled very well, but the simple fact is putting this after the Ashes means that nobody cares, including the selectors, who have rested Anderson and Collingwood before the Series is even lost (although I'd suggesting giving Collingwood a few series' rest anyway)

Fucking shocking.

I think Nemo summed it up best.  Playing the ODI series after the Ashes is like playing the Inter Toto after the FA Cup Final.  No one cares.  I certainly don't.  And evidently, neither do the players.

Bring on South Africa in November.

Part of the problem seems to be the number of players to pick from.

By my calculation there are 55 players currently, who have at some time played for England in an ODI.

This seems to lead to players playing for their place rather than for the team...hence timid batting.

It's compounded by wholly muddled selection policy....so a fella like Trott, gets picked for the T20 and test side but not the 50 overs

Someone like Ed Joyce, who's been just about the best 50 over batsmen in domestic cricket, and has taken a century off the Aussies in Convictland doesn't get a sniff, instead we get a more limited Mick.

Strauss, who's been head and shoulders the best bat, only gets a game because he's captain.

And as for teh batting power play  >:(

The power play thing is baffling, they're really doing their best to balls it up every game.

Who would you pick as an 11? It's actually quite tricky, especially with Pietersen injured, to balance a team. Although I couldn't agree more than Trott should be in.

Is it sad that the thing I'm most interested by in today's game is that Michael Vaughan is commentating on TMS?

And when I say most interested, it might well be the only thing.

We're in severe danger of winning one here: Owais Shah just bowled a wicket maiden.

:Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

I'd say the Lankies, have got 50 or so too many for our boys on that pitch.

Come on Larwood, we're never going to win.

Don't look now folks, but we just won a one day international without Strauss scoring, with an excellent contribution by the middle order and NO RUN OUTS.

Reg,the all powerful seer [a bit like Merlin, but without the beard or hat] was wrong!Who's laughing now baby  :D

I also think the ICC chimpions trophy should remain in this thread as it is a bit uninteresting.

Is it uninteresting because you dont have sky? Im loving it. Cricket is cricket.

in a totally uninteresting note im surprised one of you cricket nobbers hasnt taken the piss about sussex yet? I will jump in here and say i did predict our relegation, however i also predicted our domination in the one day game too.

I did consider it.

Can't believe there's no TMS for the Champions Trophy at all. I understand if Agner et al want a break, but they could have sent the B team out surely (White, Hughes, Mann et al)

Will look a bit silly if we actually do anything.

Morgan looks a right player to me.

What a surprise that when we play with proper batsmen, and proper bowlers then we go and get a result.

No bits and pieces players, and the one we did have didn't get to bat anyway.

Well we've beaten SA as well so through to the last 4. Where the hell has this come from?

Ha ha.Now i'm interested in this trophy  :D  ;)

What a result.Always fun to beat the South africans, especially when graham smith scores a century.

great performance, i reckon we are playing this well because the pressure is off. No one has given us a hope and we are as bigger underdogs as the windies, however we actually have some talent.

We're like pakistan used to be - Can beat anyone on our day, but are more than capable of losing to anyone the next

Always fun to beat the South africans, especially when graham smith scores a century.

Also when it knocks them out also !!

Still not as funny as Gibbs dropping the World Cup, nor them misreading the Duckworth Lewis scores, but still funny also, especially as they were supposed to be No.1 in the world going into the tournament.

There was talk of us deliberately losing the game so that New Zealand go through instead of Sri Lanka, so we wouldn't have to play them in the final if we made it through. We win either way.

The pitch is awful.

Anything over 150 is game on...

That sounds like a winning attitude doesn't it?Hope your wrong.

Frankly us getting to the next stage is a massive shock really don't think we should be trying to fix who'll we get in the final   :soapy tit wank:
