Anybody else watch the Derren Brown thing? It was entertaining if a bit silly. The stamping on cups thing was very nerve racking even though I knew there probably wasn't a knife.

Been to La Casa for a meal. Had no choice, was the wife's works do. Went for the spiciest thing on the menu to disguise the taste. Wasn't bad.

Couple of bottles of Desperados helped.

Today has been a day of disappointments.

Derren Brown was a huge anti-climax. I knew it would be, but it was shit.

Next week looks a bit more interesting.

David Blaine doing the bullet catch wasn't much better either.

The gun-man just shot into a large metal thimble that had been shoved in the Yank's big fat mouth.

Derren Brown is a psychological illusionist who has done some very meh stuff, but on the whole some very clever and fascinating things.

They do magic tricks. Derren Brown's thing is making a show of explaining how he did it - but that's often part of the trick, or in this case a rather amusing "ha ha you plonkers" at the audience.

You're right not to watch these sort of things though Talk Talk, it's just a way of subduing the masses to stop them sticking up for their rights as individuals. Clearly your fantastically superior judgement on such matters comes from your mind being unsullied from the evil biased subliminal views that such shows beam into everybody's heads.

Normally his explanations are quite believable and/or entertaining, but with this trick there is no getting over the fact predicting randomness like the lottery draw is impossible. Or he got lucky on a 14million to 1 shot :)

Note the repeated use of the word 'always' to fit in with the forum hiccups.

Also,to predict the outcome of 49 objects in motion without taking into account the forces/paths/collisions of each object is ludicrous. The area each ball is collected from is so small that the physics of it is [nearly] impossible - you'd need to predict the order the balls come out in,therefore need to pinpoint which ball will be in the catching zone at the specific time - remeber the balls movements are pretty much random due to collisions so when one ball is taken away it impacts on the paths of all other 48 balls. And thats probably already gone OTT in explanation,but theres alot more to it.

Predicting the outcome of a machine (computer = mathmatics = derren brown) is a diffrent ball game to predicting the outcome of the motion of so many objects.

It's interesting how the whole thing, from the initial prediction all the way through the explanation, was basically variations on the classic "and oh look I've got the card you'd pick written down on a piece of paper in an envelope in my jacket pocket". The exception being the coin game, which was just http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penney%27s_game. Whilst it is quite an interesting bit of sequences and probabilities, the way he didn't really explain the rules and then started spouting stuff about "Deep Maths" was a bit annoying.

I did still enjoy it, even if it was far from his best use of the explanation being part of the illusion. It seemed that the whole thing was as much at the expense of people who feel the need to smugly go around telling people how it's ridiculous and neither of his explanations can be true, as it was people who are silly enough to try averaging out peoples guesses for their office lottery syndicates.

I went out and at some point went off to get some narcs, my misses went out with a mate. My mate who was getting the narcs was fucking useless and couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery and I ended up going home quite early, sober and not at all high.

I am not hungover, disappointingly.
